Topic: On the road
Objectives:
1) to start speaking about the road, so students can express their thoughts on this topic.
2) to present pupils with new words on the topic.
3) to develop pupils’ listening and speaking skills on the material covered.
4) to give pupils spontaneous talks on the topic developing their imagination and creativity.
Visuals: a student’s book “Spotlight”, a blackboard, a giving material sheets.
Language: answering questions, grammar exercises on adverbs of frequency and prepositions of time, tape recorder with the information about safety on the road.
Цель урока: научить обучающихся составлять инструкцию по безопасности движения, высказываться по теме «Правила дорожного движения».
Задачи:
- Активизировать употребление лексики по теме «Транспорт, правила уличного движения» и повелительного наклонения.
- Совершенствовать навыки аудирования, чтения и говорения по теме «Правила уличного движения».
- Развивать умение работать в группе, развивать чувство взаимопомощи.
Режим работы: фронтальный, индивидуальный, парный, групповой.
Виды упражнений: языковые, условно-речевые, речевые.

I Entry
- Greeting
T: Good morning, children. The bell has rung so let’s start our lesson, we have a lot to do today. It is nice to see you, you may take your seats now.
- Lead up activities
- Discussing the lesson plan, setting goals
T: Now let’s take a look on the blackboard and get to know the plan we are going to stick today. First we are going to talk about the road and safety rules and the imperative mood.
- Oral practice, matching game
T: since you know the topic of our lesson, let’s do the following. Match the word or a phrase with the description of it.
Parking zone | A person who is on foot, not by car/ bike, etc. |
Pedestrian | White stripes on the road. People can cross the road on it. |
Zebra crossing | A sign on the road. |
Traffic warden | An area which people use for walking. |
Pavement | A name of a job. This person watches the traffic and makes it safe. |
Traffic sign | A place where you can park a car. |
II Follow up activities
- Presentation of a new topic
a) making phrases
T: We know much about transport and signs. But it is very important to be safe on the roads. Open your books on p 26 ex 2 and in pairs match the columns and say if it’s dangerous or safe.

b) The imperative
T: you know the imperative mood, we use it when we give instructions. In pairs give instructions on road. What should we do or not to do on the street, in the car, on the bus using ex 2
- Text-based activities
- Listening for the text
T: look at the text and it title, how do you think what it is going to be about? Lets listen and see. Lets give the titles to all 4 parts of the text.
- Working in groups
T: In 3 groups you are to discuss and then say to the class how to behave and not behave in certain situation. The team picks up a vehicle itself. (bus, bicycle, car)
T: now a member of each team gives a speech. The rest listens and I ask them questions.
III Closure

T: thank you for your work today, we learned a lot today about road and safety rules on the road, as well imperative mood and how to give instructions and don’t.
2. Saying good bye
T: it is time for the bell, write down the homework and you may be free.

- Prefix “re”
T: Look and read the rule on page 67 about the prefix. Lets do ex 2 all together
T: now in pairs do ex 1. Here you are to rewrite the sentences using prefix RE. ex 1
c) Putting down new words
T: Let’s listen, read and put down new words. Ex 3 on p 67.
d) Group work with the text
T: do you know how people can take care about the environment? What do you do? Look at ex 5. Here Rob is telling about the environment in Britain. We’ll listen to the text and match pictures with facts from the text.
Then we’ll work in groups.
