Тема урока: общие и специальные вопросы в косвенной речи

УМК:  “Starlight” Баранова К.М., Дули Д., Капылова  В.В.

Цели урока: Способствовать формированию  новых грамматических знаний –преобразование общих и специальных вопросов из прямой речи в косвенную.

Сопутствующая задача: способствовать совершенствованию полученных знаний в микродиалогах по заданной ситуации.

Задачи урока:

Развивающая: -развитие познавательного интереса, инициативы в осуществлении иноязычной речевой деятельности.

-развитие коммуникативных способностей, компенсанаторных навыков; развитие умения обобщать и логически высказывать свои мысли.

-адекватно оценивать свой результат учебной деятельности.

Образовательная: -отработать преобразование общих и специальных вопросов из прямой речи в косвенную.

-развивать навыки диалогической речи по заданной ситуации.

-развивать навыки чтения при самостоятельной работе с грамматическим материалом.

Воспитательная: - развивать настойчивость и умение преодолевать трудности для достижения намеченной цели.

- активизировать познавательную инициативу обучающихся и формировать их социальную компетентность.

-повышать интерес к изучению английского языка, воспитывать культуру языкового общения, уважительного отношения друг к другу, умение  внимательно слушать собеседника.

УУД:

Личностные: Осознавать ИЯ как средство общения, расширяющее познавательные способности, развивать доброжелательность  и навыки сотрудничества с одноклассниками.

Регулятивные: умение оценивать правильность выполнения учебной задачи,  собственные возможности её решения; умение осуществлять самооценку, самоконтроль; умение организовывать учебное сотрудничество; умение работать индивидуально и в группе.

Познавательные: умение анализировать, устанавливать причинно-следственные связи, строить  логическое рассуждение.

Коммуникативные: - развивать умение организовывать  учебное сотрудничество и совместную деятельность с учителем и сверстниками.  

-умение адекватно использовать коммуникативные средства для решения различных коммуникативных задач, владеть монологической формой коммуникации, используя, в том числе средства и инструменты ИКТ; владение устной и письменной речью.

Формы работы: фронтальная, индивидуальная, групповая.

ХОД УРОКА

I. Организационный этап.

1) Hello dear students. How are you? Do you have any news?

Look at the screen, please. You can see some direct sentences here. Read and transform them into indirect speech. Pay attention to the rule sequence of tenses.

  1. She said, “I am busy today and I shall be busier tomorrow.”
  2. “Don’t forget to bring your exercise books”, the teacher said to us.
  3. “Take tram number five”, said the man.
  4. “I am very sorry, Kate”, said Mike, “I have forgotten to bring your dictionary.”
  5. “Open the window”, my mom asked me.

Girls, pay attention to the following sentences. Do you know how to change them into indirect speech?

  1. Helen asked Pete, “Did you play chess with your father yesterday?”
  2. “What exercises have you done for today, children?” said the teacher.
  3. She asked me, “How long are you going to stay here?”
  4. She asked Robert, “Have you received a telegram from your wife?”

- What sentences can we see here? (Interrogative)

-What types of questions are given here? (General and Special)

-Now, tell me what we shall study at the lessons today. (Changing General and Special questions from direct into indirect speech)

II Усвоение новых знаний.

1) Divide class into three groups:

Group1: Marina, Lena, Christina

Group2: Ailana, Diana, Tanya, Angelina

Group3: Lera, Val, Surena, Polly

2) Every   group gets a coordination card which consists of three steps.

Group1

Step 1 – Operating a computer (time 5 minutes)

  1. Study grammar presentation “Changing General and Special questions from direct into indirect speech”, make notes.
  2. Do the following task (in writing).

Change the following questions into indirect.

  1. “Why are you shouting, man?” said Prince John to Locksley.
  2. “How did you manage to solve this difficult problem in such a short time?” my friend said to me.
  3. “Do you know where the Browns live?” we asked a passerby.
  4. “How can I cat to the circus?”asked a girl.
  5. “Have you ever been to London, Mike?” asked Mary.

Step 2 – Work with your teacher (time 5 minutes)

  1. Come up to your teacher and be ready to explain the material you have learnt. If something is not clear to you and you have questions, you can ask them to your teacher. Discuss the task from step one with her.
  2. Do the following task with your teacher (orally).

Change the following questions into indirect.

Helen asked Pete, “Did you play chess with your father yesterday?”

“What exercises have you done for today, children?” said the teacher.

She asked me, “How long are you going to stay here?”

She asked Robert, “Have you received a telegram from your wife?”

Step 3 – Work out the rule (time 5 minutes)

“Were you at school yesterday?” dad asked his son.

Dad asked his son whether he had been at school the day before.

Special question

“What is your name, boy?”asked my mum.

My mum asked a boy                        what his name was.

“Whom are you waiting for, boys” asked he.

He asked boys whom they were waiting for.

“Why did Nancy come late to the party?”asked Frank.

Frank asked why Nancy had come late to the party.

  1. Correct mistakes in the following sentences:
  1. “Have you seen any plays by Shakespeare?” my friend asked me. My friend asked me if have I seen any plays by Shakespeare. _________________________________________________________
  2. “When does your mother go shopping” asked the neighbor. The neighbor asked when our mother did went shopping. _________________________________________________________
  3. “What are you going to do when you come home?” she asked us. She asked us what were we going to do when we came home. _________________________________________________________
  4. “Do you always meet your younger sister after school?” my aunt asked me. My aunt asked me I always meet my younger sister after school._____________________________________________________

Group 2

Step 1– Work with your teacher (time 5 minutes)

  1. Read the material your teacher will give you. Study the examples and try to work out the rules of changing  General and Special questions into indirect speech. If something is not clear, you can consult your teacher.

Reported questions

The word order in reported question is different in indirect speech. There is no inversion of subject and auxiliary verb, and there is no do/does/did/will… Also you shouldn’t forget the rule of Sequence of tenses! We don’t use a question mark in a reported question.

Special question:

“Why have you come here?”I                        I asked her why she had come there.

“What time is it?”                                          He wants to know what time it is.

“Where do you live?”                                    She asked me where I lived.

“Why did you miss lessons”              The teacher asked her student why 

                                                              he  had missed lessons.

General question:

To transform General question into indirect speech we use if or weather.

“May I take you pencil?”        She asks me if she may take my pencil.

                                                       She asked me if she might take my pencil.

“Do you speak French, Sam?”                  The man asked Sam if he spoke French.

                                                        The man askes Sam if he speaks French.

  1. Do the task your teacher will give you.

Change the following questions into indirect.

  4. Tom said, “How long will it take us to go there by plane?”
  5. My friend said to me, “Are you going away anywhere for your holiday?”
  6. Pete said, “Can you speak a foreign language?”
  7. I said, “Jack are you good at foreign languages?”
  8. She said, “Did you enjoy the performance?”

Step 2 - Operating a computer and correcting mistakes work (5 minutes)

  1. Study the presentation, make notes if necessary.
  2. Do the following exercise.

Correct mistakes if there are some.

1) “Have you seen any plays by Shakespeare?” my friend asked me. My friend asked me if have I seen any plays by Shakespeare. _________________________________________________________

2) “When does your mother go shopping” asked the neighbor. The neighbor asked when our mother did went shopping. _________________________________________________________

3) “Do spend enough time outside, Mary?” asked the doctor. The doctor asked Mary if she spent enough time outside. ____________________________________________________________

  1. “What are you going to do when you come home?” she asked us. She asked us what were we going to do when we came home. _________________________________________________________
  1. “Do you always meet your younger sister after school?” my aunt asked me. My aunt asked me I always meet my younger sister after school._____________________________________________________
  2. “What has happened here, children?!” asked mother. Mother asked her children what had happened there. ___________________________________________________________

Step 3 Rule explanation for the teacher (5 minutes)

  1. Explain your teacher the rules of changing direct Special and General Questions into indirect speech.
  2. If you have any questions about changing direct Special and General Questions into indirect speech, you can ask them to your teacher.
  3. Do the following task.

Change the following questions into indirect.

  1. He said, “Do you like going shopping?”
  2. The teacher said, “Did you read an English book last year?”
  3. Mother said to her son, “Have you invited anybody to dinner at the weekend?”
  4. Ann said, “Where are you going for the weekend?”
  5. The teacher said to the pupils, “What are you talking about?”
  6. I said to my friend, “How long did you stay in London?”

Now girls, look at the screen and change the following questions into indirect. First do it in groups.

“Do you like my pies, Ann?”asked her grandmother.

“What did you do at school yesterday, John?” asked father.

“Will you play the piano today, Helen?” asked her aunt.

“What are you doing here?” mother told us.

III Cовершенствование полученных знаний в микродиалогах по заданной ситуации.

  1. Let’s make three groups. There should be a girl with a green, red and blue card in every group.
  2. Study the communicative task and make the dialogue according to the situation, be ready to act it out. You will have 5 minutes.

Situation1: Imagine that you and your English friend have come to visit her granny who lives in the countryside. Greet friend’s grandmother, introduce yourself, be polite and ask her some of the following direct questions:

  • How are you?
  • Do you like to live in the village?
  • Why do you like to live in the countryside?
  • Is air always so clean and fresh here?
  • How long have you lived here?
  • Was (name of your friend) a good girl in childhood?

Also you can ask your own questions if you want.

Situation 2: Imagine that you and your friend from Russia have come to visit your granny. Greet your granny whom you haven’t seen for ages and introduce your friend. Your friend will ask your granny some questions, be ready to change them into indirect speech.

Situation 3: Imagine that you are an English woman who has lived in the village for 10 years. You like to live in the countryside because of good environment. There is no air, water, land and noise pollution. At last, your beloved granddaughter (who was a good and obedient girl in childhood) has come to visit you with her Russian friend. Greet the girls, be ready to answer the questions your grand daughter’s friend. Unfortunately, you have some problems: you can’t understand the questions clearly and you have some problems with hearing. That’s why  you will ask your granddaughter “What does she ask?” or “What did she ask?”

Структура урока

I  Организационный этап.

  1. Приветствие
  2. Ф\З и Речевая подготовка
  3. Постановка цели и задач урока. Мотивация учебной деятельности учащихся.

II Усвоение новых знаний.

Смешанное обучение

  1. Деление на три группы: слабая(зеленый цвет), средняя(красный), сильная (синий).
  2. Каждая группа получает маршрутный лист, состоящий из трех ступеней (время выполнения каждой ступени пять минут). Задания в каждой  группе разные.
  3. Совместное выполнение упражнения и закрепление материала. Структура кооперативного обучения Think-Write-Round Robin -  «подумай-запиши-обсуди  в  команде».  Во  время выполнения данной  структуры участники   обдумывают   высказывание   или   ответ   на   какой-либо вопрос,  записывают и по очереди обсуждают свои ответы в команде.

III Cовершенствование полученных знаний в микродиалогах по заданной ситуации.

Кооперативное обучение

  1. Ученицы образуют смешанную группу: слабый + средний  +  сильный

Cтруктура Mix Pair Share обучающая структура, в которой участники смешиваются, образовывают пару или группу  и обсуждают предложенную тему.

  1. Ученицы получают ролевые карты с коммуникативными задачами для составления диалога. Составляют диалог.
  2. Презентация диалога
