Ролевая игра по английскому языку «The lucky chance» в рамках факультативного курса «The journey to The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland» для учащихся 10 класса

Цель: поддержание интереса учащихся к изучению культурных традиций страны изучаемого языка.

Задачи:

• практическая – систематизировать и обобщить страноведческие знания учащихся, тренировать употребление лексических и грамматических единиц по теме «Великобритания»;
• образовательная – расширить кругозор учащихся;
• воспитательная – создать положительную мотивацию к дальнейшему изучению английского языка;
• развивающая – совершенствовать у учащихся память, воображение, внимание, логическое мышление.

Оборудование: карта Британских островов, символы стран Соединённого королевства и флаги, цветные иллюстрации достопримечательностей Лондона, портреты известных британцев, карточки с вопросами, бочонки с вопросами.

Подготовительный этап к игре дома: 

Учитель объявляет ученикам 10 класса, что им предстоит поучаствовать в игре «Счастливый случай», называет тему, которой будет посвящена игра. Учащиеся получают домашнее задание – просмотреть запись передачи «Счастливый случай», которую накануне дал учитель, познакомиться с правилами игры, обратить внимание на структуру игры (этапы), на речевое поведение участников игры, то, как между ними осуществляется коммуникация. Учащимся также даётся задание поискать в интернете, справочных материалах дополнительную информацию страноведческого характера о Великобритании и каждому приготовить по два вопроса о Великобритании.

Подготовительный этап в школе:

Учитель и ученики обсуждают на уроке просмотренную передачу, ещё раз уточняются правила игры, ученики задают вопросы, если им что-то непонятно.

Учитель сообщает ученикам о том, кто будет присутствовать на игре и оценивать их деятельность (Информация о жюри. Состав жюри: 1 преподаватель английского языка, классный руководитель, 1 ученик класса, родитель. Система оценивания: команды получают по 1 баллу за 1 правильный ответ).

Затем организуется повторение лексического материала, который будет необходим учащимся во время игры. Заранее учитель выписывает те лексические единицы, которые будут нужны учащимся во время их участия в игре. Учитель готовит карточки, на которые он выписывает необходимую лексику (см. карточки). На уроке учитель сначала проводит фонетическую зарядку: по команде «say after me» за ученики повторяют за учителем лексические единицы по теме. Затем происходит работа с карточками. Учащиеся вытягивают карточку с вопросом и отвечают на него.

После этого происходит распределение по командам, которое осуществляется таким образом, чтобы команды были равны по силам.

Затем в каждой команде происходит обсуждение вопросов, приготовленных учениками, и выбираются 4 наиболее удачных вопроса. Эти 4 вопроса – домашнее задание команды.

Ход игры (раунды):

1 раунд – «Warming up» (разминка):

Ведущий (учитель): The first round is called “Warming up”. Each team will be asked a certain number of questions. You will have 10 minutes at your disposal. If you know the correct answer you needn’t wait until I read the whole question till the very end. You’re allowed to interrupt me in order to save time. If you don’t know the answer, immediately tell me “Go on!” so as not to waste time. I will then ask the next question. One point will be awarded for every correct answer.

To begin with, let’s decide which team will be the first to start the round. Captains, will you come up and roll the dice? The captain with the highest number will get the right o begin the game.

Well, the members of the … team, will you accompany … and leave the classroom for a while? We’ll invite you back in 10 minutes to continue the game.

В то время, когда члены первой команды отвечают на вопросы ведущего, вторая команда выходит из класса в сопровождении члена жюри, чтобы не было искушения подслушивать за дверью кабинета. Затем входит вторая команда, ей предлагаются те же вопросы. Побеждает команда, которой удалось дать больше правильных ответов за ограниченное время.

Ведущий (to the members of the… team): Are you ready? One, two,  off we go!

8. Britain’s currency? (pounds and pence)
9. How often does Big Ben strike? (every quarter of an hour)
10. Who are “the Beefeaters”? (Yeomen warders in the Tower of London)
11. The longest river in England (the Severn)
12. The Headquarters of the Metropolitan Police? (Scotland Yard)
13. The national emblem of Wales? (daffodil and the leek)

Ведущий: Thank you, now let’s invite the … team and ask them the same questions. … Well, it’s difficult to decide which team is better. Our respected jury must do it. Will you tell us the results of the first round? Cheer up! It’s only the beginning of the game.

2 раунд – Puzzles in the barrels («заморочки из бочки»):

The next round is called “Puzzles in the Barrels”. You see, this time the questions have been hidden into the colorful barrels. There are 12 of them, six for each team. Choose any barrel you like, open it, find the question inside and try to answer it. Mind, you have only 10 seconds to think it over. You’ll get one point for each correct answer.

Вопросы спрятаны в специальные бочонки. Игроки из каждой команды поочередно вытягивают вопросы.

1. What is the nickname of the British flag? (The Union Jack).
2. “The Beatles” became internationally famous, they had a lot of hit-records. Several generations of people grew up listening to their songs. Can you name the members of this popular group from Liverpool? (John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Ringo Star).
3. What do you know about the traffic in Britain? What should everyone keep in mind while crossing the street in London? (London traffic differs from the Continent. In England they keep to the left, not to the right. In England people say: “If you go left, you go right. If you go right, you go wrong”).
4. The British are known to be the world’s greatest tea-drinkers. It is said that they drink a quarter of all the tea, grown o the earth each year. What is the so-called “high tea” in England? What does it include? At what time is it? (It is quite a substantial meal at about 6 p.m. when all the members of the family gather together. It may include ham, bacon, sausage, cheese and butter, some pastries: biscuits or buns with cream, honey or marmalade and of course several cups of tea.).
5. Who was Robin Hood? (He is a legendary hero of England. He lived in the 12th century. The legend says that he lived in Sherwood Forest with his merry fellows. They took money from the rich and gave it to the poor).
6. What do the letters BBC stand for? (British Broadcasting Corporation).
7. What is the nickname of the British capital? (Albion).

Ведущий: Let’s listen to the jury. How many points did both teams manage to get in this round? What is the current score?

3 раунд – “Ask me a question and I’ll ask you” («Ты – мне, я – тебе»):

Ведущий: “Ask me a question and I will ask you” is the name of the next round. Your homework was to think of a question for the member of the opposite team. It’s time to hold the crossing battle. The requirements are:

• read the questions loudly and distinctly;
• the addressee can’t ask his team-mates for a help in a case he/she doesn’t know the right answer;
• guesses must be given within 20 seconds.

Is that clear? Who will start this round? Well…, would you begin, please? Whom do you want to ask your question? (Who will be you addressee?) … Is that right or wrong? Which is the correct variant? (Will you give your own answer?).

4 раунд – “A Dark Horse” – «Тёмная лошадка»:

Ведущий: While the jury is busy totaling the score let’s pass over to the next round which is called “The Dark Horse”. This time you are to listen to short stories and guess who this person is. The first pupil who puts up his/her hand, gets the right to answer. If he is wrong, the members of the opposite team can answer the same question and get a point.

1. It was our Russian newspaper “Red Star” which gave her the nickname “the iron lady”. Who was this woman and what did she do? (Margaret Thatcher – the first woman to occupy the position of prime minister 1979 – 1990)
2. He was a famous English dramatist and poet at the beginning of the 17th century. He wrote lyric plays, comedies, tragedies and historical plays. His home own was Stratford-upo-Avon. His theatre “The Globe” is known all over the world. (William Shakespeare)
3. The Old Curiosity Shop was built in London in 1567. It was described in one of his novels. He is a well-known English writer popular or his memorable characters and his portrayals of the social evils of Victorian England. His works include “Pickwick Papers”, “David Copperfield” and “Oliver Twist”. (Charles Dickens)
4. It took him 35 years to build one of the Royal Churches in London. It was designed in a French style. He died at the age of 91 and was buried inside his masterpiece – the place where the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana took place. (The architect Sir Christopher Wren).

5 раунд – «Hurry up and See!» - «Спешите видеть!»:

Ведущий: The next round is “Hurry up and See!”. I’ll show you several colorful pictures of some places of interest in London. You have to name what hey are and give some interesting information about them. Any member of the team can add something if they want.

Photos for the first team: Piccadilly Circus; The Houses of Parliament; The Tower Bridge.

Photos for the second team: Trafalgar Square, Buckingham Palace, Big Ben.

Ведущий: Jury, will you be so kind as to comment on the answers of both the teams? And what is the current score? Thank you.

6 раунд – «Trivial Pursuit» («Гонка за лидером»):

Ведущий: I see, today’s game is coming to an end and he last round will turn out to be decisive. It’s called “Trivial Pursuit”. I’ll read the questions in turn for each team. Again you may interrupt me with the right answer or say “Don’t know” and I’ll read the next question for the opposite team. The team with the most correct answers wins this round. This time we shall start with the team which has the least points.

2. The national musical instrument of the Scots? (bagpipes)
3. The national dress of the Scots? (kilt)
4. The permanent seat of the British Parliament? (the Houses of Parliament)

10. The outstanding scientist who discovered the law of gravitation? (Isaac Newton)
11. Who is the Prime-Minister of Great Britain today? (Gordon Brown)

Ведущий: Well, jury, it’s time to declare the winners of today’s game. Congratulations to all the members of the … team. You were the best. But … team, there is no need to worry. You were also great. I’m sure next time you’ll be luckier.

Thanks a lot to everyone for taking an active part in our game. I’m happy with your answers. You really demonstrated your perfect knowledge of the topic “The United Kingdom”. I hope you’ve had a nice time together and learnt something new. I want o give you small prizes as a treat. Thank you once again and goodbye.

По окончании игры происходит обмен впечатлениями. Каждый высказывает своё мнение о том, что понравилось в игре, а что нет.

Обсуждение и корректировка ошибок осуществляется на следующем уроке.

Long-term follow-up:

Учащиеся получают домашнее задание: либо написать заметку о своём участии в игре «Счастливый случай» в школьную газету, либо написать личное письмо своему другу, в котором рассказать о своем участии в съемках телепрограммы.
