Тема: «Why is English so popular?»

по учебнику К. Кауфман

Цели и задачи: 1.Практическая: формирование навыков монологической речи по теме.

2.Образовательная: расширение кругозора учащихся.

3.Воспитательная: воспитание культуры языкового общения, умения слушать собеседника.

4.Развивающая: развитие памяти, внимания, логики, цельности высказывания.

Оборудование: доска, учебник, плакаты, политическая карта мира;

Ход урока:

1. Оргмомент. Приветствие ведущего. (Нигматуллина Гузель)

-Good morning, dear guests. I am Mrs Nigmatullina, a Canadian journalist. I have to write an article about the English language and I want to know what people in different countries think about it.

We invited some guests and I want to introduce with them: Mr. Nur Mukhametov and Fidan Nigmatullin. They are American businessmen.

Mr. Timerbulat Mubarykov and Ural Kharasov. They are English historians.

Mrs. Nurzilya Maksyutova nd Leisan Nurgalina. They are Russian translators.

Mr. Ilsur Khakimov and Rifat Islamgulov. They are students from India.

And some of students from the  form are here today. They are Liliya, Leisan and Rosa.

Today we are going to speak about the English language. Why is English so popular? What do you think Mr. Nigmatullin?

Fidan: I think that English is so popular because it is the biggest and strongest country in the world. Everybody wants to do business in America.

1. Six out of ten richest people in the world are Americans.
2. The whole world eats in American restaurants: Mc. Donald’s, Burger King and Pizza Hut.
3. The whole world wears American jeans such as Levis.
4. Hollywood is the biggest film producer in the world. The most popular films in the world are American.

Albina: I agree with you, Mr. Nigmatullin because I like to watch American films.

Nur: Could I say something here? The dollar is the most popular currency in the world. The USA is the world leader in science and technology. And that is why the whole world must speak English.

Aliya: I think ENGLISH is popular because it’s easy and I can prove it. Let’s compare English with Russian.

1. Plurals are easier. You just have to add an- (e)s in the end. For example, tables, books, trees.
2. GENGES are simple. In English you use “she” for women and “he” for men and all other words are “it” In Russian we have tree (it), table (he), book (she). It is very difficult.
3. English words don’t change much.

I READ this book - Я ЧИТАЮ эту книгу.

We READ this book- Мы ЧИТАЕМ эту книгу.

You READ this book- Ты ЧИТАЕШЬ эту книгу.

He(she) READS this book- Он(Она) читает эту книгу.

We read this book- Мы ЧИТАЕМ эту книгу.

Guzel: I think it`s very true. English isn`t a very difficult language. And another thing; several European languages contributed to the formation of English. Can you tell me which?

Exersise 8 on page 77

As you have noticed English has words from other languages. It is like many other European languages and that is why people can learn it easily.

A lot of English words are like German. The grammar is         also very similar. Meine Freundin ist 12 yahre alt.(German)--- My friend is 12 years old.(English)

Wir gehen in die Schule.(German)— We go to school.(English)

In fact, English is a Germanic language. The Anglo-Saxons contributed to the formation of English most of all. English grammar is very similar to German. There are also a lot of French words in English. For example: country,court,crime,prison,religion,prince,princess,royal,fruit,magic and so on.

Rifat: I think English is so popular because the United Kingdom used to be a very big empier. The British had colonies all over the world and the people in the colonies had to speak English. My country, India, is an example.

Let us read the text “The roots of the English language on page 80”.

So, “Why do we learn English?”

1. If we know English we will be able to travel all over the world and communicate with people in every country.
2. We’ll be able to get the news first , because we can watch the international television networks: CCN and the BBC.
3. We’ll get access to information on any subject. We live in the information age anyway, and we’ll be able to surf the Internet day and night, because most of the websites on the Internet are in English.
4. We’ll be able to understand the words of all our favourite English songs. And finally, we’ll be able to find a fantastic job and earn a lot of money!

For example, top class diplomats, politicians, scientists, artists everywhere in the world use English to communicate with each other. Almost all business in Russia today is international. Even a secretary has to write letters or  messages  in English and speak English on the phone.
