Pupil: Maybe we’ll compare life in Russia and abroad. Teacher: Quite so. Any more ideas? Pupil: I suppose we’ll find out what country is the best. Teacher: How clever of you! Really, today we are going to speak about life in different countries and discuss what country is the best to live in. And our topic is: “East or West – Home is Best?” At the end of the lesson you’ll learn to describe English speaking countries, you’ll be able to express your point of view, you’ll think of what makes a man happy. | Фронтальная беседа с учащимися. IV Practice Teacher: At the beginning of the lesson let’s play a game. Each of you will choose a sheet of paper. Make groups according to the colours. Each colour stands for a certain country. You should find the information about this country. Teacher: Now let’s share the information you’ve found. Say some words about Australia, United Kingdom, the USA, Russia | Работа в группах.
V Reading Teacher: We’ll continue working in groups. Each group will get a text about living in a certain country. You’ll read and find arguments for and against living there and fill in the table. Then change the sheets and write down the information in the other tables. Teacher: So, you’ve got all the arguments and can make a choice. Think for a while and answer the questions: In what country according to your opinion it is better to live? Why? What country you wouldn’t like to live in? Why?
VI Listening Teacher: Teenagers from different countries are sharing their opinions about the places they’d like to live in. Listen to them and while listening fill in the table (Приложение 6) Teacher: You’ll listen to the recording once again please answer the questions: What are the teenagers’ reasons for living in these places? Which of the reasons are the most important for the young people? What arguments do they give? | Прослушивание (Приложение 5) и заполнение таблицы(Приложение 6) | Развитие аудитивных умений и навыков. Развитие умений выделять в прослушанном тексте речевые образцы, фразы и использовать их в своих высказываниях

Приложение 3 Text A
Australia is the smallest continent. It is the 6th in size after Russia, Canada, China, the USA and Brazil. It is an unusual country. The seasons are the other way round in Australia because it lies south of the Equator. Much of the land is a useless desert. It has different climatic regions, from warm to tropical and subtropical. Australia is a great place to live in. There is a lot of sunshine and fresh air, parrots and other fantastic birds, warm water and beaches. The sun shines all the year round. January is the hottest month in the country. But severe droughts, floods and cyclones happen very often on the continent. Many people live far away from towns in the outback. The people are very hospitable and much friendlier than the British. Australia is called ‘the lucky country’. Thanks to the warm, sunny weather you can spend all the time outdoors. Australia is famous for unusual birds, animals, plants, trees, flowers. A kangaroo is a symbol of the country.
Text B There are a lot of places of interest in Great Britain. They are both modern and ancient monuments, like Stonehenge and Hadrian Wall, Durham castle and York Cathedral. We’ve got many theatres, art galleries, concert halls and museums. There are a lot of things to do, visitors can, for example, visit famous places, walk in the parks, enjoy shopping or listen to our traditional music and watch folk dances. Different exhibitions, concerts and sporting events take place there. London is famous for its beautiful parks. Hyde Park is the most democratic park in the world, as anyone can say anything he likes there. Regent’s Park is the home of London Zoo. Another place which you can admire is Buckingham Palace. It’s the residence of the Queen.
The warm currents of the Atlantic Ocean influence the climate of Great Britain. Winters are not severely cold and summers are rarely hot. There is fog and steady rain throughout most of the year. The months from September to January are the wettest. Thanks to the rain, Britain’s countryside is famous for its deep green colour. The fertile farmland and climate are good for growing a variety of fruits and vegetables. A considerable area of land is covered by meadows and heaths. The grass remains green all the year round.
Text C Russia is large and beautiful. There is hardly a country in the world where such a variety of scenery and vegetation can be found. We have steppes in the south, plains and forests in the midland, tundra and taiga in the north, highlands and deserts in the east. There are several mountains chains on the territory of the country: the Urals, the Caucasus, the Altai and others. The largest mountain chain, the Urals, separates Europe from Asia.
Russia is reach in beautiful lakes. The world's deepest lake is Lake Baikal. It is much smaller than the Baltic Sea, but there is much more water in it than in the Baltic Sea. The water in the lake is so clear that if you look down you can count the stones on the bottom. There are over two million rivers in Russia. Europe's biggest river, the Volga, flows into the Caspian Sea. The main Siberian rivers- the Ob, the Yenisei and the Lena- flow from the south to the north. The Amur in the Far East flows into the Pacific Ocean. On the vast territory of the country there are various types of climate, from arctic in the north to subtropical in the south. In the middle of the country the climate is temperate and continental.
We have a lot of beautiful cities and towns. Tourists from different countries come to admire our ancient palaces, museums, cathedrals and churches. Our nature is very beautiful too. We are proud of our outstanding people and when the world speaks about our achievements. The history of our country is very interesting. Our country is very big and it’s difficult to keep it in order that’s why we’ve got various problems such as dirty streets and violence.
Text D
The USA stretches from Atlantic Ocean across North America and far into the Pacific. Because of such a huge size of the country the climate differs from one part of the country to another. The coldest climate is in the northern part, where there is heavy snow in winter and the temperature may go down to 40 degrees below zero. The south has subtropical climate, with temperature as high as 49 degrees in summer. The Rocky Mountains extend from Alaska through the USA to Mexico, but greater part of the country is a plain. There are many rivers in USA and the longest is Mississippi. America is a good country with great opportunities and brilliant weather. The best thing about America is that there are so many different peoples and cultures. Washington, the capital of the United States of America, is situated on the Potomac River. There are no sky-scrapers in Washington because no other building must be higher than the Capitol. New York is the largest city in the USA and the biggest sea-port. It is situated in the mouth of the Hudson River. There are many places of interest in New York: Central Park, Times Square, Rockefeller Centre, the shopping districts and the United Nations Building. In Manhattan, at Broadway, there is Columbia University, one of the biggest universities of the USA. But I do not think that America is all good. Its worst point is that in the cities there is a lot of violence. I wouldn’t feel safe walking along a street alone in the evening.

Becky:
Would I like to live here? I really haven’t thought about it. The Australians I’ve met are very hospitable and much friendlier than the British. After two weeks I understood why Australia is called “the lucky country”. One reason is that the weather is so good. The sun is always shining. Thanks to warm, sunny weather, you can spend all the time outdoors. What a good chance one can have to look sunburned, to enjoy sunbathing and water sports. Well, Australia is a great place to live.
Tom:
I think it doesn’t matter much what country it might be. Now I’m dreaming of living in a home on a green hillside within a 10-minute walk of a broad white sand beach or of a nearby river. I’d like to have a lot of horses, a fertile farmland and a good climate for growing a variety of fruits and vegetables. But if I happen to change my mind, I know, I can move to any place. Because it’s a vast country with various climates, landscapes and possibilities where you can always find a place to your liking.
Sveta:
I don’t want to live anywhere else but in Russia. I was born here and I’m not going to live it. But a lot of countries attract me as a traveler. I’ve read much about European countries and I finally set my eyes on Spain. Firstly, I like its climate, hot and dry. Another reason for my choice is Spanish food. A lot of exotic fruits that I have never seen in Russia grow there. But what attracts me most of all to Spain? Of course, people. Unfortunately, I haven’t got any Spanish friends, even pen friends, but I believe the Russians and the Spanish have much in common.
If I happen to live in Spain, I’ll live in a small provincial town, far from big cities. My house will be in the mountains where nature is wild and magic. But still it is a dream, and perhaps some day I’ll visit Spain, but I will only visit, I’m not going to live there. East or West, home is best. I can’t imagine my life in another country without Russian friends, the Russian language, Russian frost and Russian cookery...
