Dear pen friend!
Thank you for your letter. It was so nice to hear from you. In your letter you asked me to tell you about my summer holidays.
Well, I have never been to the capital of my country but I always wanted to visit it. As you know, I live in Chester. It’s a small town in England. Last summer my dream came true. I visited London with my classmates and our teacher. We spent 2 happy days there.
There are so many places to visit in London. We started our excursion from Trafalgar Square. In the center of it there is a statue of Admiral Nelson. To the left you can see the National Gallery. It has a fine collection of European paintings. Then we visited Buckingham Palace. It is the London home of the Queen. When the flag is flying on the top she is at home. In the evening we walked in Hyde Park. It’s very beautiful with its plants and flowers.
Next day we were at Westminster Abbey and at the Tower of London.
Westminster Abbey is a royal church. It’s fantastic.
I enjoyed my visit to London a lot.

Interesting facts about animals.

Do you know that elephants are very good swimmers? They can pick up a coin with his trunk? The trunk is everything for the elephant. The elephant can do with his trunk much of what we do with our hands. It can pick up a man and put him on his back; then it can pick up and give him a coin which fell from his pocket. Do you know that when an elephant grows, everything grows on it except its eyes?
Do you know that crocodiles are cold-blooded? Their temperature rises and falls together with the temperature of the air? Do you know that in the old, old days, many, many years ago crocodiles lived in Europe? Do you know that crocodiles kill more people in Africa than any other wild animal?

Safari parks
A safari park is like a large zoo, where the animals live in natural conditions (естественные условия). There are several safari parks in Britain and they are very popular places for visit. One of the most famous is at Windsor, which is close to London airport.
You can visit some parts of the safari park on foot. Here you can see the animals that are not dangerous: giraffes, zebras, camels and antelopes. The animals walk around as if they were in Africa.
Safari parks also have lions, tigers, leopards and other dangerous animals. They cannot live with the other animals, because they would eat them. They would also eat the visitors, so they have to drive through the parts where these animals live. You must not open your windows and you must not get out of the car. It is not a good idea to take a new car into this part of the park, because the monkeys climb on the cars. They can break or spoil (испортить) them. Safari parks are much better than zoos, because the animals do not have to live in small cages.
- Where do animals live in natural conditions.
- In parks
- in safari parks
- in zoos
- in the gardens
- How can you visit some parts of the safari park with non-dangerous animals?
- By car

- because giraffes, zebras and camels can eat lions, tigers and leopards.
- because lions, tigers, leopards can eat all food of other animals.
- because there is no place for so many animals
- Why must you close your windows and sit in the car in some parts of the safari park?
- because the weather is often cold there.
- because you can scare (напугать) animals.
- because it’s dangerous to drive through the parts where lions, tigers and leopards live.
- because it’s comfortable.
5) Why is it not a good idea to take a new car into safari parks?
a) because lions, tigers and leopards can damage (повредить) a new car.
b) because there are no good roads to drive.
c) because the monkeys climb on the cars.
d) because the monkeys climb on the cars and damage them.

I’m Alice Parker. I’d like to tell you about typical Saturday of my family. We have a detached house. It’s quite big. We have three bedrooms upstairs and one bedroom, a kitchen, a bathroom, a living room downstairs. Our Saturday usually starts at 8 o’clock. Mum comes upstairs to wake us up. Then we have breakfast together. We have a lot of things to do on Saturday morning. Mum cooks dinner, does the ironing or the washing and cleans the house. She spends her morning downstairs and we tidy up the rooms upstairs. We help Mum to wash dishes, to sweep the floor and to water the flowers. Dad usually works in the garden.
Then we go shopping together. I don’t like shopping but my sister loves it a lot. In the evenings we usually watch TV downstairs or my sister and I go upstairs to listen to music and play computer games.

My winter holidays
My winter holidays began at the end of December and finished on the tenth of January. At the end of the term we had a New Year party at school. We decorated the hall and painted a wall newspaper. Everybody enjoyed the party. We danced, played games, talked and ate many tasty things.
Then on the New Year’s Eve we had a family party at home. It is a good tradition to see the New Year in with my relatives and friends at 12 o’clock. We wished each other a happy New Year, and then we watched the New Year concert on TV. I got a lot of presents. My parents gave me a puppy and my granny gave me a pair of new roller-skates. I was happy.
During my holidays I had a lot of free time. It was not necessary to get up early. The weather was fine and I spent a lot of time outdoors. I played snowballs with my friends in the yard, skied in the park and went to the skating-rink to skate. Usually there were a lot of teenagers.
When the weather was cold I stayed at home, read books and watched TV. I helped my mum about the house. I washed up, cleaned the flat and tried to cook. Sometimes I went shopping. I enjoyed my winter holidays very much.

At Christmas, which is a home and family celebration in Britain, those who live away try to get back home. Christmas is the biggest holiday of the year.
As Christmas comes nearer, everyone is buying Christmas presents for friends and relatives. At Christmas people try to give the children everything they want.
The children count the weeks, then the days, to Christmas.
On Christmas Eve families and friends gather for the festivities. Housewives are busy preparing food, and children are sent to bed. They are told that if they don’t go to sleep, Father Christmas will not bring them any presents. Then, when they are asleep, the parents come into their bedrooms and leave the presents near their beds, or under the Christmas – tree, or in a stocking hanging up somewhere in the room.
