Lesson plan. Disney cartoons.

Good morning! Today we are going to speak about Disney. But to begin with, we shall read some words for you to pronounce them correctly. These are the names of some Disney cartoons and their characters. Who wants to start?

- reading and discussing the words –

• Do you like to watch cartoons?
• What cartoons do you like? Do you like to watch Russian or foreign cartoons more?
• What is your favourite cartoon?
• When did you watch cartoons last time?
• What old cartoon do you like most of all?
• What do you like more: to watch cartoons or to read stories? Why?
• What do you like more: cartoons or fables?
• Can a cartoon have a moral? Can it teach us some lessons?

Today we are going to speak about five cartoons. And to remember what they are about, we shall read small summaries of these cartoons. So, here are your texts and you have two minutes to look them trough. Then, you will read the summary and all the others will try to guess what cartoon it is.  

• preparing and reading the text –

So, now we are having a new task. Disney cartoons are famous for their music. I think that these music is wel-known. So, your task is to guess, from which cartoon the song is, and to write the name of the song near the name of the cartoon. You also should try to remember, who sings the son and to write the name of the character, too. So, we are getting started.

1. Snow White, the dwarfs’ song, “Hei-ho”  
2. Aladdin, Aladdin’s song, “One jump ahead”
3. Cinderella, Godmother’s song, sings while doing wonders
4. The Lion King, Timon and Pumbaa, “Akuna matata”
5. The little Mermaid, Sebastian, the crab, “Under the sea”
6. Aladdin, at the beginning, “Arabian night”
7. The Lion King, “The lion sleeps tonight”
8. The little Mermaid, Sebastian, the crab, “Kiss the girl”

Very nice. Now, let’s check it.

- checking, if something is not right, repeating the song –

And now let’s speak about the characters. They can be princes and princesses, villains and helpers, animals and magical beings. Can you name these characters?

• Flounder, a fish, The Little Mermaid
• A Dwarf, Snow White
• Jafar, Aladdin
• Lucifer, a cat, Cinderella
• Timon, The Lion King  

So your task is to say, which statements about the characters are true and which are false. Try to correct the false statements. 

• preparing the task and checking it –

O.K. And now let’s see what other characters you remember. Who can you name?...... And now, try to imagine that I’m a character of a cartoon. I’ll speak about myself and you should guess who I am.

I am a crab. I am lively, hardworking and funny. I like to swim, to dance and to have a wonderful time. I have a friend. She is naughty, but nice. I like her. What is my name?  

Now, you’ll get the text. Look at the underlined words. These are the words you have to change speaking about your character. Now you choose one of these cards. This is you. Don’t show cards to each other. Speak about yourself and all the others will guess who you are. So you have two minutes to get ready………

Now we choose one person. He takes a card. All the rest can ask general question to this person. He will answer “yes” or “no”.

For example: Is the character nice/lively/angry/cunning/lazy/hardworking….?

You should guess what character the person is speaking about. So, who will go?

And now we are going to sum everything up. On these sheets of paper you have five questions. You should choose only one character. Then I will count and name the winner.

This story takes place under the sea. It is about a girl and her friends. Her friends and she are very nice, lively and funny. They like to dance, sing and laugh. And they are naughty, too.

The girl loves a boy and wants to be with him. At the end they are all pleased, because the girl and the boy are together ([tə'ɡeðə] - вместе).  

This story takes place in the forest. The girl hides from her stepmother (мачеха). She meets seven little people, who become her friends. They help her to be together with the boy she loves.

This story is about a naughty, but lively boy and his monkey-friend. The boy loves a nice princess. With the help of his wise friend, who can make wonders (['wʌndəz] - чудеса) the girl and the boy are together.

It is a story about a lively and hardworking girl, who lives with her lazy and silly stepmother (мачеха) and her daughters. The girl wants to go to a party, but her stepmother doesn’t want her to. With the help of her godmother (['ɡɒd̗mʌðə] - крёстная) she goes to the party, meets a prince and falls in love with him. At the end they are together.

The story takes place in the jungle (['dʒʌŋɡl] - джунгли). A wise and proud little lion is going to become a king. But his uncle doesn’t want him to. With the help of the animals he meets, the lion becomes a king.

• Oh, that’s nice!
