The theme of the lesson is: « Who is in charge of our Planet? »
Aims:
- to develop students` habits in listening, reading, speaking;
- to enlarge the students` outlook, to enrich their word stocks; to improve students` skills in expressing their own ideas, opinions;
- to bring up and develop love of nature and readiness to protect the environment.
Materials:
- Cards (тексты, слова вперемешку для письменных заданий ), slogans, pictures, computer, computer-slides.
- Lexical material: grass, to keep off, wild; a container, to damage, to destroy, to disturb, environment, glass, nature, to plant, plastic, to pollute, pollution, to protect, to recycle, to reduce, to reuse, to spoil, to throw away, wild life, air, to disappear, Earth;
- Conditionals(1 and 2).

Good morning dear students and guests. Glad to see you! Today we are going to discuss the problem of environmental protection. You know that people all over the world are worried about our environment. And we shall find out who is in Charge of Our Planet.
- Warm – up activity
We shall try to solve the crossword , you are to answered my questions.
We are surrounded by plants and animals. So, what is around us? (Nature)
What harmful rain do you know? (Acid)
What do we get as a result of burning fuel in cars and lorries? (Smoke)
Polluted air is bad for people, animals and… (plants)
Dirty air is called … (smog)
People throw away a lot of … (garbage)
We don’t want to be ill. We want to be … (healthy)
So, the theme of our lesson is ecology. 4 min

Water pollution
Water is necessary for life on the Earth. It is in oceans, seas, lakes and rivers. But very little water on the Earth is good for drinking because it is dirty. Some factories and companies dump chemical wastes, millions of tons of oil into the sea every year. We can only imagine how many seabirds and animals, fish, shellfish die in such water.
It is dangerous to walk barefoot on the banks of the rivers and to swim in our lakes because there is a lot of garbage, broken glass, and plastic, tins, and bottles, thrown everywhere. Some people wash their cars, bicycles in our rivers and lakes.
Many territories and our atmosphere are polluted with different kinds of technological, chemical, nuclear wastes. The intensive development of sciences, industry and chemistry nowadays has made the pollution of our environment a global problem which should be solved by all means.
Disposing the garbage we produce every day is a major problem. Finding land for new landfills is becoming more difficult nowadays. But there are 3 R’s: reduce, reuse and recycle. Energy, water, glass bottles, newspapers, plastic, cans, tins can be reduced, reused and recycled.

6. I am a member of British Parliament and you are members of Green Peace organization.
В это время учитель надевает на себя бейджик, а на доске появляется эмблема Грин Пис и изображение Британского Парламента.
Учитель: I’m making a report in the Parliament. I’m speaking about the problems of water pollution. Listen to me and say if you agree or disagree.
1. Many seas are not used for dumping waste.
2. So dumping the waste poisons and kills animals.
3. But rivers and lakes are not poisoned.
4. Factories and plants don’t produce a lot of waste.
5. But factories use clean water.

You have cards with a number of words choose those, which belong to our theme: "Who is in charge of Our Planet?” Write them down in your copybooks.

10. Game.
Teacher: Let’s play a little. You see some Russian words on the blackboard. Find their English equivalents. ( На экране учащиеся должны найти перевод для некоторых русских слов и соединить их)
English words: Environment, pollution, wildlife, nature, ecology, to protect, to reuse, to reduce, cut down, litter, recycling.
Russian words: экология, природа, дикий мир, использовать еще раз, загрязнение, окружающая среда, уменьшать, защищать, мусор, вырубать.
11. Conclusion(итог)
Учитель: So, the theme of our lesson was « Who is in charge of Our Planet? ». Say, what have we to do to protect our Earth?

I will divide you into 3 groups: school Green Peace, Town Green Peace and international Green Peace. Each group should make a poster «how can you solve the ecological problems? ».

Teacher - we all live on the tiny planet. Our life and health are closely connected with the environment. I think, such lessons teach my students to understand and protect nature.
Besides, during this lesson some elements of some technologies are used, such as interview, brainstorming, and interactivity. Students show their skills in working with the computer, video, and language laboratory.
