“Environmental Problems”

Цели:

Разбивающая: повышение интереса к языку; развитие умений и навыков устной речи; развитие языковых и познавательных способностей.

Воспитательная: воспитание потребности в практическом использовании языка, любовь к природе. Образовательная: расширение эрудиции учащихся, активизация знаний по теме.

Практическая: совершенствование диалогической и монологической речи.

Оснащение: компьютер, проектор, PowerPoint, магнитофон.

Музыкальное оформление: Louis Armstrong, What а wonderful world; Boney M, Don‘t kill the world.

Т: Today we are going to speak about an important topic “Environmental problems”. We are revising everything we know about ecology and environmental problems of the modem world.

Т: As you know pollution is a threat to our environment. The situation is very serious, with one of five people dying yearly as a result of issues brought about by pollution. Compared with years that have passed, environmental pollution has largely increased. What’s the main cause of pollution?

P1: Every year, world industry pollutes the earth’s atmosphere with about 100 million tons of dust and other harmful substances. As a result, some rare species of animals, birds, fish and plants disappear forever, and a number of rivers and lakes dry up.

P2: We human beings take from nature as much as we can. We cut down forests and build farms, houses, roads on the land. While doing that, we pollute the environment. Cars and factories, plants and power stations also pollute the air and make it dangerous to breathe.

P3: Even scientific progress has caused global disasters on our beautiful planet. Especially modem industrial production is the main threat to nature. There are a variety of problems that are affecting the world today, including aii* pollution, acid rain, water pollution, and smog, etc. Toxins and smog from industrial areas and vehicles have filled the air that we breathe into our lungs and often make us ill.

P4: Nuclear radiation has become a serious problem, too. The most horrible ecological disaster befell Belarus and its people after the Chernobyl tragedy in 1986. About 18 percent of the territory of Belarus was horribly polluted with radioactive substances. It was a tragedy.

P1: Ecology is the science of the relationships between organisms and their emironments.

T: Why do people so often speak about ecology nowadays?

P2: Because it's one of the most important sciences in the modem world.

T: What are the main problems of our planet?

T: What could happen if we don't learn to use the environment carefully and protect it from damage caused by man's activities?

P4: Very soon we'll have no healthy world to live in.

P: The world is our home and we want to see it clean and beautiful. Our land is full of beautiful flowers, plants, and trees, which grow and blossom in the meadows, in the forests and in our gardens. Our Earth is so beautiful!

T: What steps can be taken to correct ecological problems? Have you compiled some rules to follow?

Rules

• Protect wildlife, plants and trees.
• Help to keep all water clean.
• Don't damage the banks of rivers.
• Don't disturb animals in their homes.
• Don't spoil parks and gardens - don't leave litter.
• Keep off the grass. Walk on the paths and pavements.
• Keep your country tidy.
• Taking care of the Earth is everybody's business!
