Конкурсный урок на тему: «The USA».

(Конкурс «The best teacher of English-2010» ТГУ).

Тип урока: Урок-повторение.

Цели урока:

1. Образовательная: активизация употребления слов и выражений темы «Причинно-следственные связи». Формирование умений и навыков чтения с целью извлечения страноведческой информации по теме «США».
2. Развивающая: развитие у учащихся познавательного интереса, памяти, внимания, воображения.
3. Воспитательная: воспитывать чувство толерантного отношения к культуре народа изучаемого языка.

Задачи: активизировать употребление новых слов и выражений по страноведению; активизировать и повторить тему «Причинно-следственные связи».

Оснащение:

Техническое: компьютер, экран, проектор.

Учебное: распечатки по теме «Прозвища штатов США», словари, учебники.

                                       ХОД УРОКА:

Приветствие учителя:

Good morning, girls and boys. How are you?  OK.

Now let’s begin our lesson. The topic of our lesson is the USA.

Task 1.  Read  and translate these texts.

1. The  flag  of  the  USA.

The  American  flag  is  the  emblem  of  the  USA. There are 50 stars, one for each of the 50 states. Whenever the country admits a new state, it adds a new star to the flag on the next fourth  of  July.

2. The capital.

The capital of the USA is Washington in the District of  Colambia. The US Congress has its seat in the Capitol and the White House is the residence of the President. That’s why Washington is a beautiful administrative city without much industry.

3. The President.

The USA is a presidential republic. So, the President is the head of state there. But  the  President  is elected directly by the people for four years and he is not a member of the American Parliament, Congress.

4. Climate.

People live within four time zones. It’s a land of physical contrast. Practically every climate in the world is represented. The southern parts of the  country  have warm  temperatures  year round, but the northern parts have very cold winters.

5. Nature.

The land varies from heavy forests to large deserts, from high mountains to deep canyons. If  you  travel across the country you would go over mountain ranges, cross hundreds of rivers, and spend days on the vast, flat prairie lands. You would drive past hundreds of lakes, woods and forests.

6. Agriculture.

American agriculture produces more food products than any other capitalists country. Much of it is exported. Fresh fruit and vegetables come all the year round from the southern regions. The highlands in the west of the country are famous for their cattle-farming. Poultry-farming and vegetable-growing are concentrated in the country-side near all big cities.

7. Industry.

The USA is a highly developed industrial country, and its agriculture is highly mechanized. The USA holds first place in the capitalist world for production of coal, iron, oil and natural gas.

         The USA is situated in the central part of the North American continent. It’s western coast is washed by the Pacific Ocean and it’s eastern coast – by the Atlantic Ocean…
