Конспект урока по теме Science and Technology в 10 классе на основе учебника Spotlight c использованием дополнительных материалов.

Цели урока:

• формирование личностных, предметных и метапредметных УУД,
• повышение интереса к изучению иностранного языка,
• совершенствование умений и навыков практического владения английским языком по заданной теме;
• развитие монологической речи.

Ход урока:

1. Начало урока. Постановка темы урока.

T: Good morning, boys and girls! Welcome to our English lesson! We have been discussing the problems of science and technology. Some people think that technology will save the world and make it better, others think that technology will ruin the society.

2. Речевая зарядка.

Have a look at these statements.

• -  Technology destroys jobs.
• - Future is in technological progress.

Which one do you agree with?

Which one you don’t agree with?

Name the reasons.

3. Повторение лексического материала.

T: Have a look at the pictures of the inventions. Why do people use them? (фотографии на экране)

1. MP3 player (we use MP3 player to listen to music)

3. TV (we use it to have fun or entertain)

4. Video mobile phone (we use it to watch videos on a journey)

3. Развитие навыков монологической речи. Контроль домашнего задания.

1. Please, give your opinion on the following statement.

Students should not be allowed to bring their mobile phones to schools.

P 1: I agree with this statement. Mobile phones can be serious destraction in the classroom. It can be difficult to focus on classwork and to be fully concentrated. Besides, there are certain risks to the students safety. For example, students can be robbed of their mobile phones.

P 2: I want to disagree. There are times when it can be useful to have mobile phones at school. You can always be in contact with your parents during the day.

4. Аудирование .

T:.Today we are going to listen about another progressive invention of human being, a driverless car. There is an opinion of a teenager from the UK.

« Have you ever seen a car without a driver? It sounds crazy, but these computer-driven driverless cars will soon be filling roads near you. Companies like Google and Tesla have been designing and testing these cars, and the technology is there – they just need to work out insurance issues, and run final tests to check they can run alongside human-driven cars on the road.

So how do they work? The cars have sensors all around which can detect other cars and obstacles in the road. Sensors on the wheels also help when parking, so the car knows how far it is from the kerb or other parked cars. Road signs are read by cameras, and satellite navigation systems are used so the car knows how to get to your destination. All you have to do is type in the address!

Sound like your idea of heaven? Sitting back, looking out of the windows and even watching a film or reading a book while ‘driving’ would be possible with this new technology. You wouldn’t have to worry about remembering directions to where you’re going. In addition, computers are generally more efficient drivers than humans, meaning emissions would be reduced. They would also drive more safely than people – they don’t get distracted by music or friends, they would obey the speed limit and they have quicker reaction times in case of an emergency.

However, there are many drawbacks of driverless cars. Computers would have difficulties making ethical decisions; if a child ran into the road, would the computer choose to hit the child or swerve and potentially kill the car’s passengers? Moreover, I personally find driving fun – I’d miss never being behind the wheel myself. Or would there need to be a responsible adult with a driving license in the car at all times?

I’m not convinced I’d want a driverless car – but it’s only a matter of time before they’ll become more affordable and commonplace on our roads.»

T: Now use the phrases in sentences of your own. (Учащиеся составляют предложения с данными фразами, затем по очереди зачитывают по одному предложению.)  

6.Активизация навыков устной речи (высказывание своего мнения)

(ученики делятся на две команды, высказывают мнение за и против самоуправляемых автомобилей, приводя доводы)

T: Wоuld you like to have a driverless car? Are these cars able to make ethical decisions? Why/ why not? Give reasons.

Участники обеих команд по очереди высказываются, используя фразы из текста и приводя доводы.

7. Рефлексия. Заключительный этап.
