-What can you see in these two pictures?

-Are you looking forward to your summer holidays?

-What do you need to pass to feel free and happy in summer?

-Today we are going to practice part 4 of your English exam.

We are going  to revise the components which  must be  taken into consideration  when we write ,analyze and correct typical mistakes and learn how to be a success and get maximal points.

-In the first picture the students are sitting their exam and in the second picture they are free having fun in summer.

-Yes, of course.

-We have to pass our exams.

II. Main body of  the lesson.

1.  Revision of the structural components

a) naming components;

b) putting components in a logical order;

c)  quiz on components;

d) matching components with the sentences given.

Let’s  start with the structure .What are  the main structural components of a letter?

Now  I ‘d like you to  put the structural parts of the letter in order they go in the letter.

Now you’ll work on a quiz answering the questions on the structure + organization of the letter

Address:  - Where is it written?

What comes first? second? Do we need comma after the address?

Date:  -How to write it in one word? In two words?

Greeting:   –Do we need comma before the name?

Introduction:-How many sentences will be the minimum?

What is the most typical                                                                                                              introduction?

Main Body: -How many questions must we answer?

How many arguments(ideas) should be          used    to answer each question?

Conclusion: -  What is the minimum number

of sentences?

What should we mention here?

Ending:   -Is it a new  line?

 Do we need

a comma or a full stop?

Personal Sign –What do we need  after it?

-Match the  sentences or phrases with the structural  components

2. A role-play” You are an exam expert”

a)Work on assessment criteria  using the table from the book.

Now, you’ll learn to be an exam experts.

What do you need for it?

Well, you are right in your assumption. So,let’s work at the criteria table to answer your questions.

-Look at the table and find the answer on the questions:-1.What are for categories for assessment?

2.What are the possible number of mistakes to get 3,2 ,1 point(s) for the contents/structure? For organization? For grammar and vocabulary? For spelling and punctuation?

We need to know how many points are given ,for what they are given ,how many mistakes can be made, how they are penalized ….

  1. Contents. 2. Organization 3.Lexico-grammatical mistakes 4. Spelling and punctuation.

( Using the table of assessment students give the answers .The teacher gives necessary explanations where the problems may occur. For example, it’s reasonable to remind  that every answer to the question must have 2 ideas or arguments to get a point ,if only one idea-then 0,5 point.

B. Guided practice

-Correction work in groups of 3-4

Work on   assessment

Now you’ll practice finding the mistakes and evaluating them.

-Firstly, find mistakes  in the contents, structure, organization.

Secondly, Lexical-grammatical mistakes

-Punctuation and spelling

See Appendix 1

See Appendix2

Are there mistakes in the contents?

What about organization?

Grammar?

Vocabulary?

Spelling?

Punctuation?

Let’s count approximate points for

 -the content

-organization

-grammar and vocabulary

- spelling/punctuation

The answers are highlighted in Appendix 2.

Yes. The answer to question 2 has only 1 idea.

Wrong address( NO country). The conclusion should be written on a new line. No reference to future  contacts.

Mistakes in: hobbies, interested in, much homework, doing sport

photography, enough

We don’t need the comma after Dear and the full stop after the name at the end of the letter. We need after All the best
