(Варианты настроения: I am fine/OK. I am bad. I am so-so. First of all I would like to greet everybody, present at our lesson and express my passionate desire to involve everybody into our discussion. Now I suggest that you should imagine the following situation – you are in a club that unites people of various interests. So you sit here discussing your numerous problems over a cup of tea or coffee. Do you support my idea? Do you fell like talking today? Have you anything against a conversation today? All right. I am glad to see the approval in your eyes. Well, what is the theme of our discussion? If you look at the blackboard, you will see a small crosswords puzzle. If you guess and fill in it, you will know the key-word and the theme of our lesson:
Musical Conductor Star Liverpool Composer Т. OK, you managed to this task. Thank you. By the way, what is music? Is it possible to give a definition of music? P1 P2 Т. You are right! The word “music” has different definitions. Then what is music in a poetic meaning of the word? P3 Т. What else can be said about music? P4 Т. So, as far as I could understand music has no borders, that means that there exists the same type of music everywhere in every country of the world? Am I right? P5 Т. And the question arises whether we can live without music? P6 P7 Т. Can we regard music as our friend? P8 Т. All right, but I have some courage to disagree with you. As for me, I don’t need music. I can exist without music. Can you contradict me? P9 Т. Good! You didn’t fail, you managed to persuade me that music brings some spice into our life and that it is extremely dull to exist without music. How can we divide music? P10 Т. Now I am sure, that everybody sitting in this classroom likes music. That’s why I have some more questions? What kind of music do you prefer? P1,2,3…. Let’s split into groups of four! I’ll give you cards with the texts. Your task is to read and understand the texts and match the type of music to the definitions. You have 3 min to do this task! Ok, it’s time! Let’s check! Well done! You are absolutely right. Now, let’s sit back, you may close your eyes if you want and relax your entire body.. Listen to the music for a few minutes and then answer my question: Can you imagine what might be happening? You know that there are a lot of great composers in the world. Can you name them? Now we are going to listen to the text about one of the greatest composers in the world. Your task is to put the sentences in the right order. Look at the screen and check up your answers.
Ladies and gentlemen, before we listen to tonight’s concert – Mozart’s Serenade in G major, better known as Eine kleine Nachtmusik – let me give you a few biographical details about the composer. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born in 1756, the son of a composer at the court of the Archbishop of Salzburg. While very young, he gave signs of great genius. From the time he was 6 years old, he played and composed brilliantly. Mozart and his talented older sister, Maria Anna, were taken by their father on concert tours to all the royal courts of Europe. Both children played the harpsichord, an instrument that preceded the piano. Mozart also played the organ and the violin. Audiences were amazed by the children’s superb talent, and lavished presents and praise on them.
At the age of 12, Mozart composed his first opera. He started to write masses and symphonies in Salzburg the next year. Travels in Italy followed and Mozart was honoured there by the pope and several Italian cities.
His father had hoped that Mozart would become court composer for some rich nobleman. But none was willing, and, until 1781, when he could not bear it any longer, Mozart laboured in the service of the strict Archbishop of Salzburg. Next year, he married a singer, Constanze Weber. He had unsuccessfully courted her older sister, Aloysia, four years earlier. Mozart’s family was almost always in debt. Mozart tried to pay his debts by making concert tours, but he only exhausted his strength.
When he was 35, the idea of death began to haunt him. At this time he started to write a mass for the dead, the Requiem. He composed much of it but his pupil had to complete it. Mozart was so poor when he died in 1791 that he was buried in a common, unmarked grave in Vienna.
Mozart composed his greatest masterpieces – the opera Don Giovanni and the Jupiter symphony – in 1788. One year earlier he published the masterpiece we are going to hear tonight, the graceful Eine kleine Nachtmusik.
