Christmas

Children sing a song «Jingle Bells»

Teacher: Good morning dear guests, students and colleagues! I`m glad to see you! We`ve come here to acquaint with Christmas traditions, customs and games. Merry Christmas!

Activity 1:”Spelling Shark”

Now let`s start with a game. It`s called” Spelling Shark”. Guess, what word is here? It is connected with Christmas.

Students:

A: What are you doing?

 B: I`m making place markers.

A: How did you make them?

B: I took a piece of card 10 cm by 10 cm and cut it in the form of a balloon. Then I wrote the name and folded the balloon in half so that it stands up.

A: Put them on the table. The children will know where to sit.

(Everybody write down the names on the place markers and put them on the table)

Activity 2: Rebuses.

Here are some presents from Santa Claus. This is a rebus. Can you guess what it means?

Activity 3: The text “Traditions and customs of Christmas”

Please look at these parts of the texts on the walls of our classroom. The task is called “running dictation”. Pupils work in groups of 4- . They go to their texts? Read them and then dictate to a writer (a pupil from the group who writes down the text). Then they read their parts in groups.

What traditions did you know from the text? Children call them out and write them down on the board. They translate them.

Traditions and customs.

Christmas is a religious holiday. It is the day on which Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. It is a happy holiday. Families come together to share their happiness? Attend church and exchange their gifts.

In the days before Christmas, parties are held in schools, offices, factories and clubs. Cities and towns sparkle with bright lights and decorations. Churches, homes, schools, shops and streets are decorated with Christmas trees, colored lights, Santa Claus and his reindeer.

Families prepare for this holiday week before. They make and buy gifts. They wrap them with bright paper and ribbons. They choose a tree and then decorate it with ornaments and lights. Houses are decorated with evergreens and mistletoe. Christmas cards are sent to friends and relatives.

Children hang up stockings to receive gifts from Santa. People wish each other a “Merry Christmas” during Holiday season. Christmas carols are sung on the radio.

Activity 6: A game “Pass a parcel”

This is a traditional English game. I want you to make a circle. You should pass a parcel to the person next to you. There is music playing when we are doing this. Then the music stops you take off one piece of paper. Then music starts again. The student who makes the last piece of paper off wins the prize.

We have got this beautiful tree with many sweets on it. Inside the sweet you`ll find a task for you to do.

Activity 10: “Wishes”

You should make wishes out of the letters in these envelopes. Go to the tree and write down your wishes on the balls (on the tree). And with everybody: Happy New Year! Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas!
