Конспект открытого урока в 4-1 классе по теме:

                       «Прогулки по Лондону»

Учитель: Разумкова Ольга Владимировна.

                         

Цель урока: Обобщение знаний учащихся по теме «Лондон».

Задачи урока:

1. Закрепление лексики по теме.

2. Закрепление грамматических навыков.

3. Развитие навыков аудирования.

4. Развитие навыков монологической и диалогической речи.

5. Развитие навыков поисковой деятельности.

6. Расширение кругозора учащихся.

7. Воспитание уважительного отношения к культуре другой страны

                                      Ход урока.

1. Warm- up:

T: What day is it today?

S: Today is the 21st of February.

T: What is the weather like today?

S: It’s Tuesday.

2. Grammar revision.

T: We are going to start our lesson with grammar revision (Students make up sentences in Present Simple Tense) Round-up 2 CD-ROM (Unit 6 Ex. 3)

3. T: To introduce the topic of our lesson we are going to watch a video. (Watching a video about London)

4. T: The topic of our lesson is London. So, could you tell me where London stands?

S: It stands on the river Thames.

T: How many people live in London?

S: Over 8 million people live there.

T: You have watched a video, so why do many people think, that London is a great city?

S: They think so, because there are a lot of best theatres, museums, churches and galleries there.

5. T: I agree. London is an amazing city, besides it is very old and has an interesting history. What was the first name of the city?

S1: The first name of the city was Londinium.

S2: The Romans went to London many years ago. They built the town on the river Thames. The place for the town was very good. Soon the Romans built a bridge over the river. Londinium got bigger and bigger. The Romans built a lot of roads from Londinium to other parts of Britain.

T: What do you remember about London in the 11th century?

S1: At the beginning of the 11th century England was already a great country and London was a very important city.

S2: In 1066 William the Conqueror became a King of England. The king lived in London. But William was afraid of the English and he built a White Tower to live in.

T: This year is really important in the history of London. Look at the picture and guess.

S: It’s the year 1666, the year of the Great Fire of London. The fire burnt for four days and destroyed 80% of the city.  After the fire people built a new city.

T: Now let’s talk about the life in London in the 19th century.

S1: By the middle of the 19th century London was the largest city in the world and the most important port. In this period it was famous for its terrible pollution.

S2: By 1830 the railway came and London became richer and richer, but it didn’t become nicer. The city became dark and dirty and people lived in bad houses.

6. T: Now we are going on a virtual tour around modern London and visit all its famous sights. Our first stop is the City. What do you know about this part of London?

S: City is the heart of London. It is the oldest part of London. Many people work in

 the City but very few live there. There are a lot of banks and offices there.

T: That’s right. You can visit some interesting places in the City. What are they?

S1: One of them is the Tower of London. The Tower of London was a fortress, a palace, a prison and the King’s Zoo. Now it is a museum.

S2: William the Conqueror built it in the 11th century. There are always black ravens in the Tower of London. People believe that London will be rich while ravens live there.

S3: One of the greatest English churches is St-Paul’s Cathedral. The famous English architect Sir Christopher Wren built it in the 17th century after the Great Fire. It took Sir Christopher Wren 35 years to build it. It is a beautiful building with many columns and towers.

T: Now we are moving to the centre of London.

S1: Trafalgar Square is in the centre of London. Some people say it is the most beautiful place in London. In the middle of the square stands a tall column. It is a monument to Admiral Nelson.

S2: Four bronze lions look at the square from the monument. There are two beautiful fountains in the square. They are in front of National Gallery, one of the best picture galleries in the world. Every day a lot of tourists visit this fine building.

T: London is a big city. How many streets are there?

S: There are over 10 thousand streets in London. Most of the streets are not very wide.

T: So, it’s easy to get lost in this city. Let’s imagine such situations in one of London’s streets.

Dialogue 1:

S1: Excuse me.

S2: Yes?

S1: Is there a post office near here?

S2: Yes, there is.

S1: How can I get there?

S2: You can walk. First right, second left. It’ll take you about ten minutes to get there.

S1: Thank you.

S2: That’s all right.

Dialogue 2:

S3: Excuse me. Could you help me?

S4: Sure. What do you want?

S3: Where is 42 Green street?

S4: Oh, That’s easy. Walk to the corner and than turn to the left.

S3: To the corner and than to the left?

S4: That’s right. And then walk two blocks to the traffic lights. And you are in green street.

S3: Thank you.

T: Our next stop is Westminster. What facts do you remember about this part of London?

S: Westminster is the political part of London. If you go down Whitehall you will see a small street where the British Prime Minister lives. He lives at number 10 Downing Street.

T: Whitehall is a wide street, leading to Parliament Square. What is there on the left?

S1: On the left you can see a long grey building with towers which is the Houses of Parliament.

S2: The Houses of Parliament is the seat of the British Government.

S3: The large clock in one of the towers is Big Ben, the symbol of London. The clock and the bell got their name after Sir Benjamin Hall. He was a tall man, whose nickname was Big Ben. So people know the clock as Big Ben.

T: What is there on the other side of Parliament Square?

S1: On the other side of Parliament Square is Westminster Abbey. It is one of the most famous and beautiful churches in London. It is very old too. It is more than nine hundred years old. There are many monuments and statues there. Many English kings and queens are buried there.

S2: Westminster Abbey is famous for its Poet’s Corner too. Many great writers and poets are buried there: for example Charles Dickens and Rudyard Kipling.

T: Look at this building. Who lives there?

S1: It’s Buckingham Palace. The Queen of England lives there. It’s a wonderful building with a monument in front of it. It’s the Queen Victoria Memorial.

S2: Buckingham Palace is not only a royal residence. It’s a small city under one roof. It has a post-office, some cafes and restaurants, a hospital, a cinema and a night club. More than 700 people work there every day.

T: It is well-known that London is a paradise for shoppers. What is the main shopping centre in London?

S: Oxford street is the main shopping centre. You can buy clothes, shoes and toys in it. People from all over the world shop in Oxford street.

T: Now it’s your turn to do the shopping. (Dialogues “At the Shop”)

S1: Excuse me.

S2: Yes. Can I help you?

S1: I’d like a pair of gloves, please.

S2: What size do you wear?

S1: Six.

S2: What colour would you like?

S1; Light blue

S2: Here is a nice pair.

S1: Con I try them on?

S2: Of course you can.

S1: Do they suit me all right.

S2: You look great, and the colour suits you.

S1: Thank you. I’ll take them. How much are they?

S2: 10 pounds. How would you like to pay?

S1: In cash. Here you are.

S2: Here is your receipt.

S1: My pleasure.

T: You can find many beautiful parks in the city. Look at the photos. Can you guess what park it is.

S: It’s Hyde Park. Hyde Park is the largest park in London. It is one of the most popular places for Londoners on hot summer days.

7. T: Now we are going to practise our listening skills. Open your books on page71. Your task is to listen and number the pictures.

8. T: Your home task was to find some more facts about the sights of London.

S1: My dream is to visit London Eye. It stands on the river Thames. London Eye is the tallest wheel in the world .It is 135 metres high. From the top of the wheelyou can see Buckingham Palace with all its gardens, The Houses of Parliament and other famous places.

S2: Madame Tussauds museum in London has got wax models of famous  people from all over the world. The models look like real people. Michael Jackson, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie are all there. The museum is very popular. Two million tourists visit it every year.

9. T: We are going to finish our lesson with a song:
