A typical British
Who is a typical British? How does he look like?
The British are different-the English, the Welsh, the Irish, the Scottish. Most British are Protestants ( Anglicans and Methodists).
The British are patriots, they put the flag on party hats, bags, socks and even wigs. The most famous traditional British dress is undoubtedly the Scottish kilt. Many people think that the Scottish men wear it every day. It is not true!
Just like no Russian woman wears ‘’kokoshnik’’ every day.
So kilts are for special occasions such as weddings or dances. When you see a man in a kilt, he is probably not Scottish, he is probably an American tourist.
The Scots, the Welsh, the Irish, the English are very proud of their national songs. When the English play football against Scotland or Wales, they sing
God save the Queen. The Scots sing Flower of Scotland, the Welsh sing Land of my Fathers.
‘Mac’ or ‘Mc’ means that a person is from Scotland. ‘O’ means that a man is Irish. Sometimes as a joke , Scotsmen are called ‘Jock’ or ‘Jimmy’, Irishmen are called ‘Paddy’ or ‘Mick’ and Welshmen are called ‘Dai’ or ‘Taffy’.
But if you don’t know someone well, don’t call them by these names!
The Irish are supposed to be great talkers, the Scots have the reputation of being careful with money, they are different but they have a lot in common.

Other countries have ‘citizens ’, but in Britain people are legally called as ‘subjects’-subjects of Her Majesty the Queen. The criminals are sent to prison of ‘Her Majesty’.
The British like to read newspapers. More daily papers are sold per person in the UK than in almost any other country. Sunday papers are so popular and some people spend all day reading them.
The most popular topic for conversation is the weather. This is an ever-interesting ,even thrilling topic, and you must be good at discussing it.
–Nasty day, isn’t it? -I remember exactly the same day in 1936.
-Yes, I remember too.
-Or was it in 1928?
-Yes, it was.
-Or in 1939?
-Yes, that’s right.
Or - Nice day, isn’t it?
Answer without hesitation- Isn’t it lovely?
Learn these words by heart and you will have the chance to be a witty man with a sharp intellect, keen observation and extremely pleasant manners. It is not polite to ask personal questions such as ‘How much do you get?’
And it is impolite to keep silence, so speak about the weather to ‘fill the gap’.
The British are considered to be polite. How do the British complain?
Some brave people do complain, but it sounds timid and apologetic.

Family life is very important for British. People prefer to live in a cottage house with a garden.

According to a survey conducted last year, Britain is a nation of tea-loving soap opera fans who value privacy, love their pets, grumble about the weather. 73% of people drink traditional tea, compared to 6% who prefer Earl Grey tea, 53% treat their pets as the members of the family, 39% think that the weather is the most annoying aspect of living in Britain.
