WHAT IS CONFLICT? . THE FAMILY CONFLICTS

Role-playing
Make up a dialog between two sisters. Use the information from the cards. Try to explain to your sister that you love her not less than before. Do your best to avoid the conflict and to calm your sister. Tell your sister that you take offense because she spends too much time with her friend. Convince her to change her behavior .

Этапы учебного занятия
I. Организационный момент
– Glad to see you! Oh, you’re in a good mood today. Great! It means everything is OK in your families.
II. Актуализация знаний
– How wonderful to have a family! We can rely on it, solve any questions together, be happy with our relatives and … But on the other hand, there’re not only such families. Do you agree with me?
III. Постановка цели урока
– Now I suggest you a fragment of a famous movie “Stepmother”. Please, try to find out what we are going to discuss at the lesson. (Cлайд 2, без звука, так как обучающиеся должны по поведению героев определить тему урока)
(Ответы обучающихся могут быть разнообразным: “Family problems”, “Relationships in the family”, “Conflicts”, но учитель должен подвести наводящими вопросами, беседуя по отрывку фильма, к теме урока “The family conflicts” слайд 3 и попытаться ответить на вопрос “What is conflict?”)
Предполагаемые вопросы по фильму – подготовка к обсуждению темы урока: Who is taking part in the dialog? How are they “talking”? What are the children doing? Are they happy or frightened? Why are they quarreling? IV. IV.Актуализация знаний
– To talk about conflicts, to act some dialogues and to do different tasks we need the words.
Let’s revise them (фронтально) (Cлайд 4)
and then make up sentences using them. (Cлайд 5)
–So, the main questions of the present lesson are: (слайды 6,7,8,9) дети читают вопросы и отвечают на них, используя Key Vocabulary.
V. Первичное восприятие и усвоение нового материала
– Do you have conflicts in your families? Who usually starts them? What are their reasons? Do you try to avoid them? How? Who suffers more having rows in your families? What is your own behavior? …
VI. Применение теоретических положений в условиях выполнения упражнений и решения задач
– As you see the rows can be between parents, between/among children and among mothers/fathers and their daughters/sons. You are right; the main reason of the parents or even grandparents and kids’ conflict is their misunderstanding. Let’s listen to the dialogue and answer the question: Why do these people disagree with each other?
At home:
Mum: Don’t you know it’s 11 sharp! I ‘ve told you not to be late!
Son: I didn’t hear it! Besides, I’m a grown –up already and I have the right to come home whenever I want.
Isn’t it a familiar situation? This situation wouldn’t happen if the participants behaved in a different manner. Now let’s rewind this film and watch it once again.
Mum: Why have you come so late? I am worrying. It’s time to be at home. Couldn’t you call me?
Son: Sorry, Mum, but I missed the bus and my phone battery is flat and I couldn’t call you!
Mum: OK.
Son: Next time I’ll be in time, Mum.
Do you feel the difference? Did mother manage to change the situation?
At school:
Teacher: Give me your record book, Petrov. I’ll give you a bad mark! You never do your homework! You always forget about it.
After rewinding
Teacher: I wonder why you haven’t done your homework? What’s the reason?
Student: I’m sorry, but I was ill yesterday and I couldn’t get the task from my friends.
Teacher: OK, next time let your parents or you inform me in advance.
You see that it’s not so difficult to prevent conflicts. You should try to observe the laws of coexistence. Please remember that we should be tolerant and do not allow the hard feelings, hostility, anger to come over you as they are very harmful for your health.
– How did the mother succeed in preventing the row? What could the conflict lead to if …….? What can different conflicts lead to?
VII. Самостоятельное, творческое использование сформированных умений и навыков
( Слайды 11,12)
– Would you like to act some dialogues? Your task is to try to do everything to resolve conflicts in a peaceful way. (Обучающиеся обдумывают ситуацию 30-40 секунд, предполагают реплики партнера и инсценируют неподготовленный диалог, инициатором которого может выступить любой из партнеров. Послушав, желательно, два-три диалога, девятиклассники обсуждают поведение участников диалога, их умение разрешение конфликта мирным способом или причину продолжения спора/ссоры

– I’m very happy you have succeeded in acting the dialogues. Thank you. To sum up, let’s think what you could advise in this case.
I wonder if we can resolve conflicts peacefully. How to cope with them?
We should remember that we are different and everybody has the right to disagree with other people’s point of view.
To use sense of humor, do not let your emotions to get out of your hands.
We must respect each other’s opinion.
Not to be afraid to say “Sorry” and ask for somebody’s advice.
Do not use words that may hurt other people.
Remember that being out of control will keep us from solving the problem and sometimes discussing two contrary ideas may lead us to a better solution or way out.
IX. Домашнее задание
– I’m sure you’ll do everything in your power to avoid or prevent any family conflicts. Let’s have a friendly and understanding family! It depends on us, doesn’t it? Try to make up your own dialogues about family conflicts.
