Цель урока: повышение социокультурной компетентности через создание предметно-развивающей среды, способствующей расширению знаний о географии, истории, архитектуре, культуре, обычаях и традициях разных стран.

Задачи урока:

1. Общеобразовательные: 

• создание проблемной ситуации, максимально приближенной к жизненно-важной и ее решение через применение усвоенных знаний, умений и навыков в новой ситуации.

2. Развивающие: 

• Развивать способности к поисковой деятельности:

• определению задач, исходя из поставленной цели;
• планированию этапов своих действий;
• выбору материалов и способов действий;
• умению аргументировать свой выбор;
• экспериментированию и речевому планированию деятельности;
• коммуникативные навыки.

• Развивать умение использовать английский язык в социальной и культурных ситуациях.
• Развивать способность к эстетической оценке продуктов деятельности.

3. Воспитывающие:         

• Приобщать к культуре, этикету, быту, традициям стран.
• Воспитывать чувство уважения к культуре, традициям, обычаям страны изучаемого языка.
• Воспитывать товарищеские взаимоотношения, доброжелательность в культуре общения, умению работать в коллективе.

4. Практические: 

• формирование коммуникативных умений и речевых навыков, обеспечивающих познавательно-коммуникативные потребности учащихся;
• формирование умения анализировать и сравнивать сведения и факты родной и иноязычной культуры;
• обучение иноязычному общению в контексте диалога культур.

English teacher 2: - Good morning everybody! Today we have a very unusual lesson!

English teacher 1: - Olga Nikolaevna, what’s this?

English teacher 2: -It’s a travel leaflet. I am going to the sanatorium “Krasnousolsk” next summer. It is in Bashkortostan in a very picturesque place. I hope unique nature, fresh air, clean water, wonderful hotels, friendly people and medical care will help me to relax after a long school year. I prefer a quiet holiday in the mountains or in the forest by the river, with nothing to do but walk and bath, laze in the sun, enjoy beautiful places and take pictures. Later, perhaps years later, they will remind me of the happy time I had there. And what about you? Where do you like to spend your holidays?

English teacher 1: - Different people have different ideas of how to spend their holidays. Some prefer staying home and watching TV day and night. A friend of mine, for example, enjoys going to the theatre and concerts. As for me I am fond of travelling. My family and I like to travel to different cities and towns of our country, to see the sights and to meet different people. Next summer we are going to spend on the Black Sea coast, in Sochi. We’ll go there by car. It’s a chance to admire all the beauty of nature, of the places we pass by.

English teacher 2: - So, you see the topic of our lesson is “Travelling is a very popular pastime of young generation, isn’t it? At the end of the lesson you will answer this problem question. You must give your arguments for or against traveling.

English teacher 1: -There are a lot of possibilities for young people to enjoy their free time. They are offered a wide choice of places to stay and things to do.

English teacher 2: - If you wish to meet and make friends with as many people as possible, you might like travelling.

English teacher 1: - Thousands of people travel every day either on business or for pleasure. There are travel agencies sitting at the tables.  We have a real opportunity to meet them. They offer different kinds of holidays to our experts.

English teacher 2:  - If we are fond of traveling, we see and learn a lot of things  that we can never see or learn at home, though we may read about them in books and newspapers, magazines. Now you will do a reading test.  Match 8 sentences to the city  on your lists of papers. You have 10 minutes to do it.

9. The Hermitage is the oldest art museum in Russia  and occupies 5 buildings.
10. Traditionally, it is divided into three main parts: the City of London, the West End and the East End.
11. The East End is an industrial district of working people, the Port is situated there.
12. St. Isaak’s  Cathedral is one of the most beautiful cathedrals, from the observation place of one can see the panorama of the city.
13. The White House attracts tourists.
14. The Peter and Pall Fortress was built to protect the Neva  banks  from Swedish invasion.
15. It is the centre of the country and the most important city of the United States.
16. The city is situated upon both banks of the river Thames.
17. The federal government works and each President of the United States lives there.
18. Besides, it is noted for its Underground, the oldest and longest in Europe
19. It is smaller in size than the largest cities of the USA, such as New York, Chicago and Detroit.
20. The Russian museum is located in the Mikhailovsky Palace, designed by Rossi
21. The Summer Garden is the oldest and most fascinating park with beautiful marble statues  and a cast iron grille.
22. It is the capital of Great  Britain, its economic, political and cultural centre and one of the largest cities in the world.
23. The best starting point of the tour around the city is Red Square, the central and the most beautiful square.
24. The city is situated on the Neva River and has become the “window” to Europe.
25. It is the capital of Russia, one of the largest cities in the world, about ten million people live there.
26. The buildings are not very tall because no building must be taller than the Capitol.
27. Here one can see the Cathedral of St.Basil the Blessed, erected by architects Postnic and Barma.
28. There are a lot of interesting places in the West End, like Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey and many others.
29. It stands on the bank of the Moskva River.
30. Lincoln Memorial is one of other monuments of great interest.
31. Tourists can see the monument to Minin and Pozharsky there
32. It is not so old as Rome, Moscow or London, but the Americans have every reason to be proud of their beautiful capital.

Task: What are your associations with the word “travelling”? What should we know before visiting different countries? Fill in the tables while listening to the excursions.

English teacher 2: - We think it’s time to answer the problem question of the lesson. Please, express your opinions, give your arguments for or against traveling.

English teacher 1:  -Valentine’s Day is a new holiday in Russia, but it’s becoming more and more popular. Millions Valentine cards, the symbol of this holiday, are sent each year on February 14th. Let’s begin to prepare Valentine cards as a present to the agencies.

English teacher 2: -You know there is one more way  to give definition to something. It’s thinkway. Write a thinkway about the virtual excursion you liked best of all. Use the scheme:
