Тема: «Christmas Traditions»

Этапы урока:

1. Организационный этап

Teacher: Good morning Alex! I am glad to see you! Could you tell me, what season it is now?

Do you like winter?

Why do you like winter?

2. Вводное слово (сообщение темы и цели занятия).

Teacher: Glad to hear it. So, winter has come, Christmas is coming now.

The subject of our lesson is "Christmas Traditions". Today we’ll speak about Christmas – a beautiful holiday which is loved by children and adults. All the tasks will be connected with Christmas. We’ll also repeat grammatical constructions, articles and phrasal verbs. Don't forget to use the expressions and words we have learned. I hope Alex will enjoy our English lesson. Please, be active, sociable and friendly. Let’s start!

3. Фонетическая разминка

Teacher: I think it would be better to start the game. Your task is to say the Christmas tongue – twister as quickly and as well as you can. Your tongue – twisters:

Santa's sleigh slides on slick snow.
Tiny Timmy trims the tall tree with tinsel.
Bobby brings bright bells.
Chilly chipper children cheerfully chant.

Teacher:Well done! How clever you are!

4. Речевая разминка.

Teacher: And now you’ll try to sum up our knowledge concerning Christmas. There are some questions:

  1. When is Christmas celebrated?
  2. What do people celebrate?
  3. What do people send each other during winter holidays
  4. What do they wish their relatives and friends?
  5. How do people decorate their houses?
  6. Where do people put the presents?
  7. What is traditional Christmas food?
  8. What are traditional Christmas colours?
  9. Is New Year as widely celebrated as Christmas in Great Britain
  10. Do you know any traditions connected with the New Year?

5. Поисковое чтение. So, this is your first task for today. You will listen to the text about Christmas. Please take your cards. So, your task will be to listen to it carefully and in the gaps. The words that are you need to use are here. You will hear the recording twice. (Приложение 1)

Now when you hear it for the second time, try to pay attention to the words, how they are pronounced.

Thank you. Now look through the text and  you’ll read it and check your answers.

6. Развитие навыков письма.

T: Now, Alex it’s high time to sign you prepared greeting postcards. Choose from the given Christmas wishes which you find most suitable.

7. Развитие грамматических навыков. (Условные предложения 2 типа.)

T: Well, let’s imagine that we are Santa. What would you do in this case? You may choose given variants or suggest your own ideas.

8. Релаксация.

Teacher: By the way do you know what song people sing on this holiday. This song brings us the cheerful spirit of holiday. «We wish you a Merry Christmas». Let’s sing the song.

9. Игра

T: We can’t imagine any holiday without tea-break. That’s why let’s learn how to make it properly. Your task is to put the following sentences in the correct order. So we’ll learn how Englishmen make tea.

  1. Fill the kettle with cold water.
  2. Boil the water.
  3. Put one teaspoon of tea into the pot for each person and one extra for the pot.
  4. Then pour a little boiling water into a teapot to warm it.
  5. Pour boiling water into the teapot.
  6. Wait 2-3 minutes.
  7. Enjoy your tea!
