Two things fill the mind with ever new and increasing admiration and awe, the more often and steadily we thinking engages itself with them: the starry heavens above me and the moral law within me. Immanuel Kant
By birth Theodore Roosevelt was a city boy, born at №. 28 East Twentieth Street, New York City, October 27, 1858. Theodore had a poor start. He began his life with a handicap. That was not a good beginning. He had money enough and fine parents and some surroundings, he had a poor health. But nevertheless he had some advantages. When he was very small, he would sit up in bed for hours, gasping for breath, or his father would walk the floor with him nights, giving the discouraged little fellow the comforting sense that someone shared his sufferings . Theodore’s father gave him a wonderful example of compassion.
Soldiers of the Civil War It would necessary to trace the events of that time. In the spring of 1861 decades of simmering tensions between the northern and southern United States over issues including states’s rights versus federal authority, westward expansion and slavery exploded into the American Civil War ( 1861 – 1865). The election of anti-slavery Republican Abraham Lincoln as president in 1860 caused seven southern states to secede from the Union to form the Confederate States of America; four more joined them after the first shots of the Civil War were fired. Four years of brutal conflict were marked by historic battles at Bull Run ( Manassas ) Antietan , Chancellorsville, Gettysburg and Vicksburg, among others.
We should mention about one of the famous figures of that time – General Grant. Ulysses Grant ( 1822 – 1885) commanded the victorious Union army during the American Civil War ( 1861- 1865) and served as the 18 th US president from 1869 to 1877
Another southern hero is Robert Lee ( 1756 – 1818 ). He demonstrated courage, integrity, bravery and honesty that should serve as an ending example to corporate, government, and community leaders. The ideals that served the General so well throughout his life, as his companions in arms, are just as important today.
Abraham Lincoln, the 16-th president of the United States of America
Theodore entered Harvard the autumn before he was eighteen, and in February of Theodore’s sophomore year his father died. Six weeks later the boy wrote o his mother: ”I have just been looking over a letter of my dear Father’s in which he wrote to me, ”Take care of your morals first, your health next, and finally your studies”. I do not think I ever could do anything wrong while I have these letters”.
His wife left him a little daughter , Alice. His second wife, Edith Carow, was the mother of all his other lively children: Ted, Kermit, Ethel, Archie, and Quentin.
It makes little difference whether we see the Roosevelt family at their beautiful place, Sagamore Hill, at Oyster Bay on Long Island , or in the White House. The same spirit of joyous fellow ship warms both homes.
Nickolai ll and his family. It was said that they were absolutely calm and preserved their dignity to the end because they knew that they were not alone – God was with them and there was Eternity awaiting for them.
Theodore Roosevelt participated in a ton of activities when he was a student. He loved the way he felt and worked relentlessly to stay active. What Theodore junior lacked in health he made up for in curiosity. It was said that many of his tutors could not keep up with his seemingly insatiable thirst for answers. Reading was an obsession with him. During his presidency he started “reading with me is a disease”. He was said to have read at least one book a day even on his busiest day.
