Unit 1 Lesson 13 Topic “Test Yourself”

Цели урока:

Образовательная – провести работу над ошибками в аудировании и чтении; повторить модальные глаголы; закрепить изученный материал;

Воспитательная – формировать интерес к стране изучаемого языка;

Развивающая – развивать навыки аудирования, чтения, а также грамматические навыки;

формировать информационные УУД (работа с текстом, поиск запрашиваемой информации в тексте, сбор и оценка информации).

Ход урока:

  1. Орг. момент. Цели и задачи урока.

Today we are going to correct your mistakes in the test and revise the material of Unit 1.

  1. Аудирование текста. Работа над ошибками в понимании услышанного.

 (WB: ex. 1 p. 16)

a) Let’s remember the conversation we listened to last Tuesday. Look at the task and answer the questions:

  1. Is it a talk on the telephone?
  2. Who is Mr. Brown talking to?
  3. What does the man want?
  4. What’s the problem?
  5. Does Mr. Brown get a ticket or not?
  6. Why is he nervous?
  7. What does Mr. Brown have to do if he wants to catch the flight?

b) Listen to the conversation again. Then complete the sentences. Do the task on the board and in your copy-books.

       Answers:

      The conversation takes place on the phone.

       Mr. Brown is talking to John Goal.

       Mr. Brown wants to fly to New York.

       Mr. Brown’s problem is that there are no tickets there.

       Mr. Brown is nervous because he must get to New York quickly.

       The advice Mr. Brown gets is to hurry up if he wants to catch the flight.

British Airways: Hello. British Airways. John Goal speaking. How can I help you?

Thomas Brown:   Hello. I'm calling to make a reservation.

British Airways: Where would you like to fly to, sir? "

Thomas Brown: I need a ticket to New York.
British Airways: When would you like to fly?
Thomas Brown:   Have you got anything for today or tomorrow?
British Airways: That'll be difficult, sir. We normally sell our tickets at least two days in advance.
Thomas Brown:   But I need to get there quickly. Please help me! You must be able to do

something!

British Airways: Of course, sir. Please don't worry. I'll have a look for you and I'll do all I can to help. (after a pause) Right. I've got one seat on tonight's flight. Do you want to reserve it?
Thomas Brown:  Yes, please. That's great.
British Airways: Now may I have your name?
Thomas Brown:   Yes, it's Thomas Brown.
British Airways: OK. That's fine. Your flight to New York is at 18.10. You'll arrive in
New York at 20.40 on the same day. The flight number is В A 0179.
Thomas Brown:  Oh, my God! It's already two o'clock. Will I be able to catch the flight
in time?

British Airways: You'll have to hurry up if you want to catch this flight. Come straight
away, or you'll be late.

Thomas Brown: I'm on my way. Thank you for your help.

Ex. 2 Complete the sentences using the dialogue.

  1. Thomas Brown is calling… (to make a reservation)
  2. He needs …  (a ticket to NY)
  3. He must get there today or … (tomorrow)
  4. They haven’t got anything because they normally sell their tickets … (in advance)
  5. Finally they offer him one seat on … (tonight’s flight)

Ex. 3* Translate the questions into English, then answer them.

  1. Кто разговаривает по телефону? (Who is talking on the phone? – Mr. Brown and John Goal are talking on the phone.)
  2. Куда хочет лететь мистер Браун? (Where does Mr. Brown want to fly? – He wants to fly to NY.)
  3. У них есть билеты на сегодня? (Do they have any tickets for today? – No, they don’t but luckily they found one seat on tonight’s flight.)
  4. Когда мистер Браун прибудет в Нью Йорк? (When does Mr. Brown arrive in NY? – He arrives there at 8.40 pm.)
  5. Нужно ли ему торопиться, чтобы успеть на самолет? (Does he have to hurry up to catch the flight? – Yes, he does.)

  1. Поисковое чтение. Работа над ошибками при чтении и понимании текста.

Read the statements and find the information in the text that proves them.

A Heavy Bag

A flight to India had a stopover at Heathrow Airport (1) The stopover was just two hours (3), so the
passengers only had time for a snack and a bit of shopping before they were ready to board their
next plane
to Bombay. (2) But there was a huge queue to the security check (5) and the passengers were starting to get very nervous. (4) They didn't want to miss their flight. One of the passengers in the queue was a very tall Indian with a big bag. The bag was heavy for normal hand baggage (6) and the man had put it on a trolley. (7) When it was his turn to go through the metal detector, he stepped forward with his bag. (8) Of course, the next thing everybody heard was a loud alarm (сирена). The security officers went speechless with surprise. However, a moment later, they turned to the Indian man and very politely asked him to leave his hand baggage with them before going through the metal detector. The Indian smiled, took his bag off the trolley and gave it to a security officer. Then he went back to his trolley, pushed it in front of him and tried to go through the metal detector once again. By this time, it was very clear what the problem was. (9)

3. You must dial the area code before this number. (должен обязательно, иначе не достигнешь цели)

      6. * Повторение изъяснительных придаточных. (ex. 9 p. 41)

               2. I’m not sure if Mike will arrive tomorrow. – Я не уверен (в чем?), придет ли Майк завтра.

               7. Итог урока. Домашнее задание. (ex. 1, 2 p. 49-50)
