Unit 6.  What Helps You to Enjoy Yourselves?

Topic: What Film Do You Like Best?

Цели урока:

1. Знакомство с различными жанрами кино.
2. Развитие способности к догадке, качеств ума: гибкости и логичности, коммуникабельности, способности осуществлять продуктивные и репродуктивные речевые действия.
3. Воспитание толерантного отношения к мнению других людей.
4. Формирование лексических и грамматических навыков говорения.

Ход урока

1. Организационный момент.
2. Фонетическая зарядка.

[r] – really, very, boring, really boring, very boring;

[t] – extremely, pretty, totally, absolutely;

[w] – wonderful, really wonderful.

      3. Речевая зарядка.

          Ask each other in a chain.

(Работа в режиме P1 – P2).

4.Проверка домашнего задания.

5. Brainstorm activity:

-        I like action, especially science fiction.

The list of genres (examples of these genres).

The names of some genres can be used without the word «film». But «a musical» is a special genre of the cinema and theatre, and «a musical film» can belong to differed genres.

T: Listen to some people who talk about the films. What types of films do these people talk about?

Students listen to the cassette and answer the question.

Then they listen to the cassette again and complete the dialogues.

Answers: Action film, thriller, melodrama (love story)

    7. Формирование лексических навыков. (ex. 2 (2), p. 189)

Students have to guess what the highlighted words mean.

suspense - a feeling of excitement when you do not know what will happen next;

plot - the events that form the main story of a book, film or play;

stuffed - completely full.

      suspense - неопределенность, беспокойство;

      plot - сюжет;

      stuffed - наполнен.

Translate the sentences with new words.

Complete the sentences with these words.

1. The ... of this film tells us about a very attractive and clever man.
2. Come on then, tell me what happened. The ... is killing me.
3. A comedy was ... with funny situations.

4.        They kept us in ... for over two hours.
Answers: 1. plot; 2. suspense; 3. stuffed; 4. suspense.

    Read the words on the board.

      Which of these words emphasise adjectives and which reduce their effects?

Put the words into two groups.

Answers:

1. Emphasise adjectives: very, really, incredibly.
2. Reduce effect: not very, quite, a bit, rather.

T: Have you seen the film «Netting Hill»?

What do you think of the story and the actors?

Сomplete the dialogue using the words: very, really, absolutely, quite, pretty, extremely.  

(Each word can be used more than once.)

Ted: So, Jane, what did you think of the film?

Jane: I... liked it. I thought it was ... brilliant.

Ted: Mm, it was ... funny, I suppose, it was nothing special. My favourite character was the flatmate - he was great.

Jane: Yes, but the whole film was ... good. I mean the dialogue was ... clever.

Ted: That's true. But the plot was a bit silly.

Jane: That's not the point. The situations were ... funny. For me, Julia Roberts was ... fantastic in the film. She's an amazing actress, isn't she?

Ted: Yeah, but Hugh Grant always plays the same part. You know, the shy young man.

Jane: Oh come on! He was ... good!

Ted: Well, I thought he was ... good in the interview scene.

Jane: Yes. That was great.

Possible answer:

Ted: So, Jane, what did you think of the film?

Ted: Mm, it was quite funny, I suppose, it was nothing special. My favourite character was the flatmate - he was great.

3. гордиться чем-либо (to be proud of something);
4. защищать справедливость (to defend justice);
5. быть добрым и терпеливым (to be kind and patient);
6. быть равнодушным (to be indifferent).

        How do you like such films?
Which of these adjectives have positive meaning and which of them have negative meaning? Give their Russian equivalents.
