Урок  английского языка в 5-м классе по теме

  “The Geography and Political Outlook of  the UK” 

(первый  урок  подтемы   “The British Way of Life”)на базе УМК по английскому языку для V класса школ с углубленным изучением английского языка авторов И.Н.Верещагиной и О.В.Афанасьевой

Цели:

- формировать дружелюбное и толерантное отношение к ценностям Британской истории и культуры, воспитывать уважение к ним;

-формировать и совершенствовать навыки иноязычной коммуникативной компетенции (навыки аудирования с опорой на наглядность и овладения нормами речевого этикета, приобретение опыта их использования в речевой практике при создании собственных  устных высказываний);

- продолжить формировать умение самостоятельно читать и анализировать грамматические таблицы, сравнивая и оценивая образцы, и делать вывод о различии употребления глаголов should и must.

Задачи:

- повторить и закрепить страноведческие знания об английском парламенте и роли королевы в жизни и управлении страной, полученные на предыдущих уроках;

-практиковать в восприятии и понимании на слух речи с опорой на наглядность;

-развивать навыки диалогической речи, научить делать комплименты и реагировать на них;

-научить давать совет, высказывать личное мнение, дать рекомендацию, употребляя структуры с глаголом should/shouldn’t

Оборудование: плакат , аудиозапись №47, кроссворд, карточки.

The plan of the lesson

I. The  beginning of the lesson.

1) Greeting the class.

T. Good morning, class! I’m glad to see you. How are you?

2)Introduction of the lesson’s theme

T. Today we are going to revise all you know about the Queen, her family, the Parliament  and their roles in the ruling of the country. I want you to be polite and well-mannered at the lesson and show your good manners paying compliments to each other. Then you’ll learn how to advise your friends to do something. First, answer my questions.

II. Answering the questions about the role of the Queen and the Parliament.

T.1.Who is the Heard of State in Britain?

   2. Does the Queen rule the country?

   3. What does the Queen do?

   4. What do you know about the Royal Family?

   5. What countries were included into the British Empire at the beginning of the 20th century?

   6. What happened in 1949?

   7. Who does the real power in Britain belong to?

   8. What do you know about the British Parliament?

   9. Why is the House of Lords important?

  10. How often do the British people elect members of the House of Commons?

III. Doing the puzzle.

T. Well done, students. Do you know any famous names connected with the British Queen and her family? Let’s do this puzzle. Give names for the following persons and places.

Across:

      1. What’s the name of the British Queen?                      

2. Who was her great- great - grandmother?

3. What Prince is the Queen’s husband?

4. Who will be the next King or Queen?

5. What’s the name of the Royal Dynasty?

Down:

6 . What Abbey was the Queen crowned in?

7. What palace do the Royal Family live in in London?

1. Which Jack lives in the name of the British flag?

T. Wonderful! You pleased me very much indeed. You are so smart today.

IV. Developing Student’s listening and speaking abilities.

T. Children, I tried to pay compliments to you. It’s usual for British and other people to pay compliments. Do you remember the way to it?

a) Work on the ex.7 p.180 of the St. Book

The pupils read the variants of compliments in the table 1 and find the proper responds to them in the table 2.

b) Work on the ex. 8 p. 181of the St. Book

T. Listen to the dialogues. Read the dialogues. Act them out.

The pupils do the task.

c) Speaking.

T. Compliment your classmate on his/her clothes, his/her looks, his/her work or his/her house or flat. Let him/her answer you. Act the dialogues out.

The pupils act the dialogues out.

V. Grammar. Should/shouldn’t

T.  Children, read the information in the table “Let us learn”. Try to understand the meaning of the verb “should ” , compare it with “must”.

1. Т. Match the verbs and their meanings on the blackbord:

2). T. Read and translate the poem by Robert Louis Stevenson “Whole Duty of Children”.

A child should always say what’s true

And speak when he is spoken to,

And behave mannerly at table,

At least as far as he is able.

T. What’s the meaning of the poem? Что выражает это стихотворение?

 3). T. Choose the correct verb. Complete the sentences with “should” or “shouldn’t”.

Example: You should sit quietly.

Speak, eat, play, say, put.

1. You … slowly.
2. You … in the street.
3.  You… your fingers in your mouse.
4. You … when someone else is talking.
5. You …loudly.
6.  You … “Thank you” when you get a compliment.

4) Translate into English using “should”.

1. Тебе следует поговорить с ней.

2. Нам следует вернуться.

3. Им не следует звонить нам.

4. Ей следует научиться готовить.

5. Ему следует научиться вождению машины.

6. Тебе не следует сердиться.

7. Мне следует сказать ему об этом.

5). Answer the question: What should you do learn the rule well? Try to give advice to your friends.

Pupils give different pieces of advice:

You should read the rule attentively.

You  should understand the examples.

 You  should train a lot.

You should do a lot of exercises…

VI. The end of the lesson.

The teacher Thanks the pupils for the work, gives the home task and says “Goodbye”.

T.  Thank  you, dear boys and girls.  You pleased me very much. You know a lot about the Queen and Parliament.  You have learnt how to pay compliments and to be helpful to your friends and give them advice. You were active and hard-working. To be a success in future you should train a lot. Your homework will be the following:1) Give compliments to Nelly in ex.3 on page 78-79 in your work-book, 2) Advise your friend to do or not  to do  some things in ex.4 on page 79-80 in the work-book.
