Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen!

We are happy to see you today at our traditional spring contest. This year it is devoted to William Shakespeare, a famous English writer. He lived four hundred years ago, but his books are still popular and people read them.

Let’s start!

Today we have 4 teams.

Introduce yourself, please! (Teams tell their names).

We have a competent jury. (Introduce the jury)

First, you are going to watch a short film about Shakespeare. These are your tasks:  №1. Match the pictures and the words

            №2. Do the crossword.

(Show and explain the tasks. Start the film)

You have 1 minute to complete the tasks.

Hand in your papers, please.

Let’s check! (Show the right answers on the screen)

Two more tasks for you. Watch the film again and choose the right words - № 3. Then № 4 – put the sentences in the right order.

William Shakespeare wrote a lot of plays for the theatre. Now I invite the girls to sing the song “At the theatre!”

At the theatre, the theatre,

That magical place

Where laughter and tears

Can change every face.

Let’s all go to the theatre!

Let’s all go to the theatre!  “Romeo and Juliet” is one of the most famous Shakespeare’s plays. We are going to see a real sword fight of the 17th century.

Now it’s time for our boys to show how strong and brave they are.

 Who are the best?

It’s up to the jury to decide.

It’s time to read the poems.

At the “Globe Theatre” all the actors were men. That’s why today boys and girls are going to recite Juliet’s monologue.

Let’s revise it first.

(Read in chorus)

What’s Montague? It is nor hand, nor foot,

Nor arm, nor face, nor any other part

Belonging to a man. O, be some other name!

What’s in a name? That which we call a rose

By any other name would smell as sweet.

So Romeo would.

What does she speak about? Who can translate?

So imagine: Juliet is it’s at the balcony after the ball where she had fallen in love with Romeo.

You are welcome. Who will be the first?

(Children recite the monologue).

In Shakespeare’s time, ladies and gentlemen wore very beautiful costumes, but we have our own Juliets. Let’s start our fashion show!

While the jury is working, we are going to watch the cartoon – the modern version of “Romeo and Juliet”.
