Мероприятие по английскому языку

“What? Where? When?”

Цели и задачи мероприятия: Расширение кругозора учащихся, развитие логического мышления учащихся, обучение выражения своей точки зрения, развитие интеллектуальных способностей учащихся, систематизация страноведческих знаний, прививание интереса и любви к английскому языку.

Оборудование: ТСО, наглядные пособия с достопримечательностями Лондона, известных людей Великобритании, «волчок», конверты на которых написаны различные суммы денег и от кого письмо.

ХОД МЕРОПРИЯТИЯ:

Звучит тихая спокойная музыка, начинает мероприятие ведущий.

Ведущий: Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. We gather in our intellectual club “What? Where? When?”. There are series of winter games in our club. So, let me introduce the team of Smarters (команда знатоков):

You know that against you play the team of TV viewers from different places. The team of Smarters will have to answer to the questions. We’ll play until 6 points. Please will be attentive and good luck!

Let’s start:

The first game. Choose the question. (крутят «волчок»)

 1. A letter from Mrs. Bamridge from London. It costs 2000 pounds.

A French engineer tells Napoleon about his idea. He wants to build it and link France and England. Napoleon doesn’t like the idea. He wants to fight with England. But project begins later. This project costs ten billion pounds. At last the project is finished in 1994, the British and French builders shake hands under the sea.

2. Against you plays Mr. Brown from Boston, Massachusetts.

Listen to the question, it costs 3000 pounds.

 3. Against you play Mrs. Rose from Edinburgh, the question costs 1500 pounds,  she asks:

Why Lord Chancellor sits on the Woolsack in the Parliament and presides over the House of Lords?

Attention! The right answer:

Lord Chancellor sits on the Woolsack in the Parliament, because it’s a part of a very old tradition which started in the 14th century. Woolsack symbolizes the importance of wool to the British economy at that time.

You see the pictures of famous people of Great Britain. Now you’ll listen to the description of one of them. You’ll have to recognize his picture and call his name. Please, listen to the description:

He is an English physicist, mathematician, astronomer, alchemist and natural philosopher. He is considered the greatest figure in the history of science. He was born on 25 December in 1642, in Woolsthorpe in the family of farmer. He studied in Cambridge University mathematics, optics, physics and astronomy.

Look, please on the sightseeing of London. (вывешиваются картинки с достопримечательностями Лондона)

It is one of the most ancient buildings of London. It was founded in the 11th century by William the Conqueror. For many centuries it was a fortress, a palace, a prison and royal treasure. (The Tower of London)

 10. A single game (блиц-игра) The team go out. The captain choose who will answer on 3 questions in a minute. Please, the captain your choice. (за столом остается один участник, остальные покидают стол, оставшийся участник  должен ответить на три вопроса за одну минуту)

2.   Who was the first president of the USA?

3.   Where the Statue of Liberty is situated?

 11. The letter from Mr. Garrett from London. The question costs 700 pounds.

The time is over. Who will answer? (England- London, Scotland- Edinburgh, Wales- Cardiff, Northern Ireland- Belfast)

 12. This letter from Tunbridge Wells. Against you plays Mr. McWizard.

He asks: Do you know where is the beginning of the Earth?

One minute. The time is over. Who will answer?

The right answer: It is in Greenwich.

 Musical pause: Today we have guests in our intellectual club, famous group “Cool girls”. Meet them!!! (выступление девочек 6 класса, песенка «Christmas nonsense», Кауфман, учебник 6 класса )
