Sights of London. (7 класс)

Тип урока: сообщение новых знаний и формирование новых практических умений (изучение нового материала) с использованием технологии критического мышления.

Задачи урока:

Образовательные: познакомить учащихся с достопримечательностями Лондона; изучить новую лексику.

Развивающие: развивать у учащихся умение анализировать конкретные ситуации, сравнивать, делать выводы; продолжить работу над формированием умения работать в группах; сформировать умение представлять результаты выполненной работы в форме презентации.

Воспитательные: формировать интерес к предмету, положительное отношение к учебе, к самостоятельной работе.

Оборудование урока: компьютер, магнитофон, тексты, карточки-задания, запись текста для аудирования, презентация.

Ход урока.

1. Организационный момент. Приветствие, сообщение темы  урока.

Good afternoon. (Слайды № 3, 4, 5, 6)  As you can see the theme of our lesson is “London, the capital of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland”. Today we will learn a lot of interesting about London. Let’s start.

2. Фонетическая зарядка. (Слайды №№7-11)

Let’s repeat after me some sounds and words.

[æ] Gallery, travel, capital, abbey, palace

[ei] Say, way, place, famous, favourite, ancient

[α:] Park, art, far, card, castle, parliament

3.  Введение новых лексических единиц. (Слайд № 12)

Some words are new. Let’s translate them and repeat once more.

An abbey (a monastery), ancient (very old), a castle (a large old building),

 a cathedral (the most important church of a district), to crown (place a crown on someone as a symbol of royal power), a fortress (building or town), a palace (place where a king lives), a parliament, sight (an unusual thing), a tower (a tall narrow building), a prison (a place where criminals are kept).

London is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It is visited by thousands of tourists. Now let’s listen to the text about London. You should answer these questions. (учащиеся прослушивают текст дважды и отвечают на вопросы)

 Where is London situated on? London is situated on the river Thames.

 What is its population? Its population is about 11 million people.

What attracts tourists from all over the world? A great number of places of    interest attract tourists from all over the world.

Right you are. London has a lot of interesting places to visit. What sights of London do you know?

And I offer you to continue our lesson with the task “Discovering Places”. I’ll give you some short descriptions of famous places. Your task will be to match photos, places and descriptions. (Слайды № №19-38)

It’s a clock in the tower and it’s a big bell. You can hear it every hour. (2, Big Ben)

You can see it from the river Thames. It is very old and has a long history. In different times it was used as a fortress, a prison and a palace, but now it is a museum. (7, the Tower of London)

It is a symbol of England. The coronation of all British kings and queens took place there. (3, Westminster Abbey)

It is a place where the British Government sits. It is situated not far from Westminster Abbey. (5, the Houses of Parliament)

It is a famous bridge across the Thames. (9, Tower Bridge)

It is the centre square of London and it is famous all over the world. (1, Trafalgar Square)

It is a palace where the Queen lives when she is in London. (4, Buckingham Palace)

It is the main church of London. (6, St. Paul’s Cathedral)

It is the largest park in London, which is famous for its Speaker’s Corner. (8, Hyde Park)

It is the national museum of Britain. It has one of the world’s best collections of art. (10, the British Museum)

Well, London is famous all over the world. It is visited by large numbers of tourists every year. Now I want you to be guides. I’ll give you some information, read and translate it and tell the class your information about Tower Bridge and Big Ben. Choose a speaker from your group and an interpreter.
