Название “Happy Valentine’s Day”

Цель: формирование интереса к английскому языку средством внеклассного мероприятия на языке

Задачи:
Образовательные: познакомить школьников с особенностями проведения «Дня святого Валентина» в Великобритании, познакомить с традициями, обычаями, с новой лексикой по теме

Развивающие: расширить кругозор, развивать память, внимание, мышление

Воспитательные: воспитывать положительное отношение к английскому языку, к культуре страны изучаемого языка, воспитывать толерантность, уважение к другой культуре

Оборудование: презентация, печатные материалы (приложения), листы для названия команд.

Ход занятия:

Учитель приветствует школьников и просит посмотреть на слайд. На слайде находится выражение “To wear your heart on your sleeve”. Учитель просит школьников догадаться о значении этого выражения и о теме урока.

• Hello, students! Today we have an unusual lesson. Before learning the topic I want you to look at the slide. Here is the phrase and you are to explain the meaning of it.
• (ответы школьников)
• So, what do you think we are going to speak about today? We are going to speak about a very famous holiday that is celebrated on the 14th of February. It is called St. Valentine’s Day. Do you know anything about the history of this holiday?
• (ответы школьников)

Учитель предлагает школьникам посмотреть видео об истории праздника и ответить на вопросы.

• We are going to watch a video about the history of St. Valentine’s Day and then you are to answer the questions. The questions are on the blackboard.
• (смотрят видео. Приложение 1)
• It is time for questions! Who was Valentine? Why men were not allowed to marry? What happened to Valentine? How did he help the girl?
• (отвечают на вопросы)

Далее продолжается разговор об истории Дня Святого Валентина. Учитель предлагает прочитать текст и вставить в текст подходящие слова.

• You are right! Now we are going to read some other details about its history. Here is the text, you are to fill in the gaps with necessary words. You have 5 minutes.
• (читают текст и выполняют задание. Приложение 2)

Учитель спрашивает школьников о символах Дня Святого Валентина. Затем школьники делятся на 3 команды и выбирают название своей команды.

• So, St. Valentine’s Day is a very important event for those who are in love and it is full of symbols. What symbols of this day do you know?
• (ответы школьников)
• Now I want you to divide into three teams. Please, create the name of your team. So, we are going to find out some of these symbols. Please, look at the slide. Your task is to unscramble the words. You work together and then if you are ready, please, raise your hands.
• (выполняют задание. Приложение 3)

Вторым заданием для команд является кроссворд. Задание также на скорость.

• The second task is a crossword and you are to do it as quick as possible. If you are ready, please, raise your hands.

Далее следует задание на чтение стихотворения. Команды вытягивают свое стихотворение, выбирают рассказчика и представляют стихотворение.

• Now, I would like to choose a number from 1 to 4 and I will give you the sheet of paper with this number. Each team has a poem. You have 4 minutes to prepare a poem for a good reading and to choose one person who will present this poem.

• To sum up the information, we are going to have a test. I am going to ask questions to each team.

There is a beautiful legend behind St. Valentine’s Day.

Saint Valentine lived in Rome in the third century AD. At that time the Emperor of Rome was (1)____. He wasn’t very popular because he was trying to get more and more people to his army. The men didn’t want to go to the army and Claudius thought that it was because they didn’t want to leave their wives and (2)____. “If they don’t marry, they’ll join the army”, he thought and passed a law which banned (3)______.

Valentine was a (4)_____ priest, who didn’t like the new law. He secretly (5)_____ people who were in love. One night the Emperor’s soldiers caught him and put him in (6)______. Valentine was going to die.

Many young people felt sorry for Valentine and visited him in prison. One of them was a (7)_____ of the prison guard. On the day of his execution Valentine wrote her a note and signed it “Love from your Valentine”. This was on the 14th of February 269 AD.
