Homelessness is a social problem that exists in most societies around the world. Almost 155 million people are homeless, in temporary shelters, in refugee camps, and in other transitory conditions. Another billion people live without adequate shelter. According to estimations, the number will reach three billion by 2050. However, it is likely that the world’s homeless population is even higher than the data suggests. This is because precise information on global homelessness is incredibly difficult to obtain. This article will explore homelessness as a social problem, with a focus on its socio-cultural implications.
