Хочу представить вашему вниманию урок «Great Minds» Великие умы, который  был разработан для учащихся 9 класса, проходящих базовый курс, для общеобразовательных школ. Урок является 3 уроком по теме «Наука и технический прогресс» (Unit 3 Science and Technology), на основе УМК: “Rainbow English “ , авторами которого являются О.В. Афанасьева, И.В.Михеева, К.М. Баранова.

Тема урока: “Great Minds”.

Тип урока: Комбинированный

Цели и задачи:

Обучающие: совершенствовать лексико-грамматические навыки по теме; способствовать применению полученных знаний при выполнении заданий ОГЭ; развивать речевое умение (монологическая речь, аудирование).

Развивающие: развивать память, мышление, внимание; развивать умения переносить сформированные навыки в новую ситуацию.

Воспитательные: совершенствовать умения работы в группах, развивать умения уважительного речевого взаимодействия, культуры речи.

Оборудование урока: раздаточный материал, презентация, интерактивная доска, доска, учебник.

Планируемые результаты:

Личностные: формирование навыков самостоятельного поиска и сохранения необходимой информации; формирование культуры поведения.

Метапредметные: формирование организации целеполагания, планирования, анализа, рефлексии учебной деятельности; формирование мотивации к изучению иностранного языка.

Предметные: активизация во всех видах речевой деятельности; употребление лексики по теме; закрепление знаний лексико-грамматического материала (задания ОГЭ «Лексика и грамматика»); научатся понимать на слух речь учителя и одноклассников.

Технологии, применяемые на уроке:

мультимедийные: аудиозаписи, презентация;

развития критического мышления: синквейн, прием «Да-Нет»

здоровьесберегающие: смена видов деятельности.

1.Начало урока.

Введение учащихся в атмосферу  иноязычного общения

                                                                                                                                                                          T: So, we are ready to start, stand up. Hello, my dear students!

S: Hello.

T: I am happy to see you and welcome to our English lesson. My name is Alla Ivanovna and I will be your English teacher. (slide 1) 

Организационно-мотивационный

T: Before we start our lesson, I want you to turn off all the telephones.  Without any doubts, cell phones would eventually create a great learning environment with many benefits and it is a powerful tool but we will do without this great invention. By the way, do you understand the word “Invention”?  What does it mean?

S: It is something new, typically a process or device, that has been created or made.

T: Please, look at the blackboard; I have written some words that are connected with the word “invention”.  The task for you is very easy to pronounce and translate them correctly. Pay attention to suffixes that help to make new parts of speech, noun, verbs, adjective

Blackboard:

Invent (V), invention (N), inventor(N)

Create (V), creation (N), creator (N)

Science (N), scientific(V), scientist(N)

Discover(V), discovery (V), discoverer (V).

T: Please, let’s work with the first line.

S: Invent, invention, inventor

T: That’s good.  I ask you to pronounce and translate the second one.

S: Create, creation, creator

T: Perfectly well, you will be the next to do this task.

S:  Science, scientific, scientist

T: That’s excellent. And the last line, please, you.

S: Discover, discovery, discoverer.

T:  That’s great job, thank you and now try to guess the topic of our lesson. (Slide 2)

S:

T: You are generally moving in the right direction.

T: Right you are, our topic is Great Minds. (slide 3) Write down our topic in your copy books.  So, I offer you to recollect some great discoveries and inventions in history of human civilization and the persons who made them and control your knowledge, skills and abilities about them.

2. Основная часть

Совершенствование лексических навыков. Речевая зарядка

T: Well, I have given you a separate sheet of paper that is on your desks (Slide 4) so take a close look at the sheet as we can find the task. You should give additional information using the data, just match the person and what he made and use the relative pronoun who and the verbs in present simple or past simple. To compose your sentence you may use word at the bottom of the page. We will talk about the great people .

For example,  Thomas Edison is the inventor who created a practical electric light bulb You are welcome to do the task. I give you two minutes to do it. Then you will match the great mind’s picture with what he \ she made right after your answer.

(3 min).  

 I would like someone to answer. What do we know about Albert Einstein?

S: Albert Einstein is a discoverer who is famous as the founder of gravitational theory.

T: Thanks, please tell me about Bill Gates, our contemporary.

S: Bill Gates is the man who is outstanding for the creation of Microsoft Software.

T: You are perfectly right. Turn to another famous person that is Neil Armstrong .

S: Neil Armstrong is the austronaut who entered the moon in 1969.

T:  Who can tell me about Maria Curie?

S: Maria Curie is the scientist who discovered the uranium.

T: Excellent. Another outstanding person is Alexander Popov. What was he famous for?

S:  Alexander Popov is the man who invented the radio.

T: That’s true. Christopher Columbus is the next to be told. Who wants?

S: Christopher Columbus is the adventurer who discovered America in  1492.

T: His discovery is very important as the other famous person made. What did Walt Disney make?

S: Walt Disney is an animator who invented Mickey Mouse and Goofy.

T:  I want you to pay attention to the words “to invent and to discover”, they are confusable. Let’s turn to Merriam-Webster’s dictionary and find some information. The word invent is chiefly associated with creating or producing something for the first time. But it did not originate in that sense. In its youth, it was used like discover to mean "to come upon" or "to find," and the two words were used synonymously through much of the 16th to 19th centuries. I ask you to make notes, the sentences that are highlighted in your copy – books.  Now, please, open the books and look at the exercise 6 on the page 24 and practice in order not to confuse these words . Our task is to complete the sentences with these words.

T: Guys, Is he\she  right?

T: Well, that’s enough. What other inventors and discoverers do you know? And what are they famous for?

Обучение аудированию.

T: The world would be a boring place to live if there were no discoveries and inventions. Discoveries and inventions help people to improve the way they live.  For comfortable life conditions we should be grateful to scientists and quick-witted inventor, discoverers.

By the way, do you know who is the man that discovered the world of theatre and cinema and created the first movie and cartoon with the sound.  Let’s watch one of his creations, to my mind, it’s a huge prompt. (slide 5)

 I adore his creations. Any ideas? Who was he? (slide 6)

S: He is Walt Disney.  (slide 7)

T: Ya. You’ve guess my riddle. It is exactly he who was one of the most famous people ever to have lived. Let’s listen to an audio to broaden your outlook. This task can be found in the 1 section, in the exercise 5 of English State Examinational test material. By the way, while listening, you should work in pairs. I will present you the worksheet and you should fill the gaps. (slide 8)

So, that was the first time. Please, recheck and add some details. Now we are going to listen to the second time because I want you to catch as more details as you can to answer some questions a little bit later, after this task. Let’s go back.

So, perfect. I’d like you to exchange your works and check, I hope you were writing properly. Now let’s check whether you were right while listening or not. (slide 9)

Совершенствование  навыков монологической речи.

T: That’s Ok.  Well, guys I want to know what the other Walt Disney’s creations do you know? (slide 10)

S:

T: What is your favorite character and why?

S:

T: Why was and is this man so famous?

S:

T: Do you think Disney’s cartoon and films with sound to be important and useful? If it is so, why?

S:

Рефлексия.

T: Summing everything up, I want you to create cinquian.  It is our logical ending of the lesson. (slide 11)

What is a cinquian?  Cinquains are particularly vivid in the imagery and are meant to convey a certain mood or emotion.

Line 1: One word (a noun, the subject)
Line 2: Two words (adjectives that describe the subject in line 1)
Line 3: Three words (action verbs that relate to the subject in line 1)
Line 4: Four words (a phrase or sentence that relates feelings about the subject in line 1)
Line 5: One word (a synonym for the subject in line 1 or a word that sums it up)

And our final stage is the homework. So, your task is to do ex 12 on page 26. You should make the monologue about a useful invention, following the plan:

  • When it was made and by whom
  • What it is like and for what purpose it is used
  • Why you believe it to be useful.

For those, who wants to show your creative skills and learn more on this topic, widen your outlook, I suggest preparing the monologue “What would you like to invent and why?”

S:
