In our country medical service is provided free of charge. There is a wide network of local out - patient clinics. If a person falls ill he calls a local physician. The doctor visits his patient and examines him. He usually sounds the patient’s chest, listens to his heart, feels his pulse and his blood pressure. He also examines his throat and tongue. After the physician has diagnosed the case he prescribes medicine for the disease.

        Then he writes out a search list and gives advice. If the patient follows the doctor’s instructions, it doesn’t take him long to recover. As soon as he feels better he comes to the local out – patient clinic for final examination. If the case is complicated and the patient needs special treatment, he is taken to the hospital. The situation in medical service has changed as compared to the previous years. Medicine has become expensive. Treatment and special tests or surgery cost a lot of money. Most people cannot afford being operated. Nowadays we cannot say that medical service given by the government is run properly. Hospitals and clinics should be better equipped. Many of them are old – fashioned and need repairing. Doctors and nurses are overworked and underpaid. One of the positive features, which still exists in Russia, is that medical check – up of school children is regular. It is very important to prevent illness. They are vaccinated and examined by specialists. It is thought that medical service should be free of charge for all people.

Earth Day is the perfect time to think about conserving, saving, recycling, and discovering new, more efficient products to help us do the things we do every day. Each year as we approach Earth Day, I am always looking for things our children and now grandchildren can do with us to learn to better appreciate the environment. Earth Day was created way back in 1970. Gaylor Nelson is the founder of Earth Day. Earth Day, April 22, is the annual celebration of the environment and a time to assess the work still needed to protect the natural gifts of our planet. Earth Day has no central organizing force behind it though several nongovernmental organizations work to keep track of the thousands of local events in schools and parks that mark the day. Earth Day is observed around the world, although nowhere is it a national holiday.

During the 1960s public attitudes began to change. In 1962 a marine biologist named Rachel Carson published "Silent Spring." The title referred to a future without birds and described in plain language devastating long-term effects of highly toxic pesticides and other chemical agents then commonly used in American agriculture, industry and daily life. The book was a surprise best-seller. In 1968 Apollo astronauts, returning from their pioneering orbital flight around the moon, photographed for the first time the planet Earth as a whole. This image of the Earth - small, fragile, beautiful, and unique - was quickly imprinted on the psyches of millions.
