 «The faces of London»

Цели урока: развитие языковой компетенции учащихся через обобщение знаний по теме “Лондон и его достопримечательности”.

Задачи урока:

• Развивающий аспект – развитие способности осуществлять продуктивные и речевые действия;
• Воспитательный аспект – воспитание уважительного отношения к иноязычной культуре;
• Учебный аспект – совершенствование лексических навыков говорения в виде монологической и диалогической речи, развитие навыков аудирования и чтения .

Ход урока

1. Организационный момент.

Teacher (T): Good morning, children. I am glad to see you. How are you?  I think you are ready to begin the lesson.  We’ll speak about this topic at our lesson. What is it? Let, s try to do the task.

First listen to the tape recorder and repeat.

T:  Have you guessed the topic of our lesson? I think,  you have. Today we’ll speak about London’s places of  interest. But it is necessary for me to understand what do you think about them.

1. What places of interest do you know?
2. Would you like to visit London? Why?

T: I see. We are going to travel together. But it is necessary for us to find the places that we want to visit. Now you’ll see the sights of London But before we’ll try to guess. What is it?

• It is the famous clock. It is real bell. You can hear  it every hour. It is a big bell. It has a deep tone  and you can hear it on the BBC. People say that it is a face of London.

P1: I think it is Big Ben.
T: You are right. Let’s see this place.

• It’s the home of the British royal family in London. When the Queen is in London, she stays here.

P2: I think it is Buckingham Palace. 
T: You are right.

• It  is the best-known bridge. It was built in 1897. This bridge is across the Thames.

P4: It is the Tower Bridge.
T: That is true .

• It is fine cathedral in central London. It was built by Sir Christopher Wren.

P5: It is St. Paul’s Cathedral.
T: You are quite right.

• It is a large gothic church. It was built in the 11th century. Almost all kings and queens have been crowned there. Many  famous British people buried there.

P6: It is Westminster Abbey.
T: Good for you.

T: OK, I am very glad,  you know a lot of places in London. But we can lose our way. It will be very important for you to ask some help. If you know the way you‘ll help the person to find the way. Take these cards and translate them into English. And then show you own dialogue with your partner. I believe,  it  is  enough  five minutes  to do it.

T: I see. You  are ready to travel. But  we  have a problem. I have an interesting story about one of the  places  of interest. But in this story there are missing  words. Let, s do it together. You must  put missing verbs from the box in the right form. Read, translate and fill in the words.

London is  the biggest… in Great Britain. There are  many …  to visit  there. You can … many beautiful churches … London.  Many queens and kings … in the Tower earlier. In the Tower you …see the famous Beefeaters and ravens. The legend says, ”Only so long as the ravens … , will the White Tower … .

Beefeaters – (буквально мясоеды) стражники лондонского Тауэра, которые носят средневековую форму.

P: Many British queens and kings lived in the Tower.

Does British queen live now in the Buckingham Palace or in the Tower?
P: British queen lives in the Buckingham Palace.

What does the legend say?
P: The legend says,” Only so long as the ravens stay, will the White Tower stand ”

London is very beautiful city  and I mean  we’ll learn more information about this city in our future. And now let’s check your knowledge. Look at the blackboard and begin doing  this test. Try to find the right answers.
