                                                    “Reasons for learning English”

                                         («Мотивы изучения английского языка»)

Цели урока:

развивающие - практиковать умение чтения, тренировать фонетические, лексические и грамматические умения; отрабатывать умения монологической и диалогической речи, совершенствовать умение аудирования;

воспитательные - поддерживать интерес к изучению английского языка,

формировать положительную мотивацию к учёбе.

Задачи урока:

1.  Повторение названий англоязычных стран и национальностей.

2.  Совершенствование умения чтения с извлечением конкретной информации.

3.  Тренировка фонетических, лексических и грамматических умений.

4.  Развитие умений монологической и диалогической речи.

4.  Практика умения аудирования с целью понимания нужной информации.

Формы организации работы: фронтальная, индивидуальная, парная, групповая.

Тип урока: совершенствование знаний, умений, навыков.

Оборудование:

1.Учебник «Английский с удовольствием» для 7 класса общеобразовательных учреждений под редакцией Биболетовой М.З., Трубаневой Н.Н. - Обнинск: Титул, 2008.

2.Аудиоприложение к учебнику Биболетовой М.З., Добрыниной Н.В., Трубаневой М.М. «Английский с удовольствием».

3.Наглядный материал: флаг Британии, бейджики с названиями стран, карточки с заданиями.

4.Мультимедийный проектор.

                                                              Ход урока

I.Оргмомент. Введение в сюжет урока, постановка целей.

Приветствие.

- What date is it today?

- What day of the week is it today?

-What is the weather like today?

- How are you? etc.

-Let’s  begin our lesson with the brain storm.  What are your associations with the word «language»?

-Match the words and their definitions (слайд на экране).

          -Read the saying on the board: «…a language that came from nowhere to conquer the

          world…» (Язык, который прибыл из ниоткуда, чтобы завоевать мир). What language?

    Do you agree that English has conquered the world?

    -Yes, English is the official language.

     English is the foreign language.

     English is the modern language.

           English is the  international language.

English is the first language for native speakers.

-So, today we are going to speak about the reasons for learning English.

II.Фонетическая разминка.

-Let’s do the phonetic drill. The words on the cards will help you to remember the names of the countries and the nationalities of people living in them.
Canada – the Canadians
the UK – the British
England – the English
Ireland – the Irish
Scotland – the Scottish
Wales – the Welsh
the USA – the Americans
Australia – the Australians                                                                                                                 Russia - the Russians
Italy - the Italians                                                                                                                             Germany - the Germans                                                                                                                     France – the French                                                                                                                            Turkey – the Turks

 -And what language can people speak in these countries?

-People can speak English in these countries.

III.Речевая разминка. Проверка домашнего задания.

-Imagine  that you are the winners of the “World teenagers’ competition”. You came from different countries to take part  in the conference. The topic of our conference is “The reasons for learning English”.

You are standing in the hall before the conference. Meet  each other.

Children make up small dialogues.

For example:

• Hello! Му name is Tom.
• Nice to meet you.  My name is Almas.
• Nice to meet you too. Where are you from?
• I’m from Russia. And you?
• I’m from Scotland. I live in Glasgow. Where do you come from?
• From Almetevsk.
• Where is Almetevsk?
• It is in Russia, in the Republic of Tatarstan. Have you ever been to  Kazan?
• Yes, I have! Kazan is the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan.
• I live not far from Kazan.
• Thanks for your explanation. See you later!
• Of course. Bye!

• Hi! My name is Liza. How are you?
• Hi, Liza. My name is Olga. I’m fine, thanks. And you?
• Very well, thanks. Where are you from?
• I’m from Russia. And you?
• I’m from England. Where do you live?
• I live in Moscow. And you?
• In London. What is your favourite hobby?
• Playing computer games. I also like to listen to music, watch TV and read books.
• Oh, we have a lot in common!
• Yes, and we are both the participants of this conference.
• So let’s  speak soon, then!
• Great. Have a nice day!  and etc.

 IV.Работа с текстом в группах. 

-Let’s divide into two groups. Look through the list of reasons for and against learning English. The first group will give reasons for learning  English and the second group will give reasons against learning English. Should people learn English?

•     Learning English is a long and slow process that takes a lot of time and effort.

•     When we travel abroad, English as the international language can help us to communicate.

•     Some people are not good at remembering new words, others are just lazy.

•     Big companies usually prefer hiring employees who know English at advanced level.

•     The English language is the official language of some international organisations like the Olympic Committee, the United Nations and many others.

•     All the Russian students have to learn English as a school subject.

•     English is the universal language of computing. Many interesting and useful Internet sites and software are in English.

•     People sometimes have no time to learn English. They have got too many different things to do.

•     There are no  English-speaking friends to speak with in real life.

•     English is the native language of many countries like Great Britain, the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and others.

•     You can improve your knowledge of English by watching films and reading books in the original.

•     English is the language of rock and pop music. Most of world known singers sing their songs in English.

•     The best way of learning English is speaking with native speakers. Using the Internet, you can find friends from English-speaking countries and keep in touch with them by messages and Skype.

•     Nowadays  it is dangerous for the Russians to go abroad.

•     Foreign universities can offer modern methods of education and students can get better results and widen their outlook.

Students give reasons for and against learning English.

-So people should learn English.

V. Работа в парах. Подготовка к прослушиванию.

-Ex.45, p.45. Work in pairs. Say why you study English at school. Make predictions for students in your class. Check if you were right.

Children ask the questions and answer them.

For example:

-Tanya, you study English because you would like to understand modern singers, don’t you?

-I’m afraid, you’re wrong. I study English because I want to go to an English-speaking country as a tourist. Oleg, you study English because it is one of the school subjects, don’t you?

-Yes, you’re right. I study English because it is one of the most important school subjects nowadays.  etc.

VI. Прослушивание.

-Ex.46, p.45. Listen to the students talking about their reasons for learning English. Fill in the table.

VII. Тренировка навыков монологической речи на тему «Почему я изучаю английский язык?»

-And what about you?  Why do you study English?                                                                                    

Students  give their reasons.

VIII. Подведение итогов. Рефлексия.

-Do you remember the topic of our today’s conference? So let’s answer the question: Is it important to learn English nowadays?
