My favourite place in Saint-Petersburg Once my friend asked me about my favourite place in St. Petersburg. Well, I told him that most of all I liked Shuvalovsky Park.

Let me give you a brief tour but first a bit of history The Park was named in honor of count Shuvalov , who owned these lands from 1746 to 1903

There is the Grand Palace in the centre of the Park

Walking through the Park you can see the ponds that look like a shirt and a hat. That’s why they are called The Napoleon Shirt and the Napoleon Hat.

In the Park there is a Church of Peter and Paul. It was built by the order of the Countess Varvara Petrovna

In a few steps from the Church there is a very interesting place. It is a crypt where Count Adolf Polje was buried in 1830.

One of the most amazing buildings in Shuvalovsky Park is that wooden country house. It is known as the Yellow Dacha.It was build by the famous architect Max Messmacher for his family.

Far from the Park you can see the high-rising hill called the New Parnass

And here you can see the Grotto of Echo. It is also known as the Puff-stone Arch which is not so easy to spot in the lush green park

During the Second World War in the Shuvalovsky Park there was a defence line so if you walk along the Park you can run into some military bunkers, shelters and armoured turrets
