Блок монологических высказываний по теме «Travelling»

для подготовки к ОГЭ по английскому языку

Данный материал был разработан в помощь старшеклассникам для подготовки к сдаче устной части ОГЭ.

Вначале по теме «Travelling» сформулированы вопросы, затем представлены примерные ответы.

Готовясь к экзамену по английскому языку в 9 классе, ученик может отобрать и использовать из представленного материала то, что подходит именно ему при повторении этой разговорной темы.

TOPIC: TRAVELLING

Task I  You will give a talk about travelling. You will have to start in 1.5 minutes and speak for not more than 2 minutes (10-12 sentences).

Question 1. Why do most people like travelling?

Modern life is impossible without travelling. Thousands of people travel every day either on business or for pleasure. 

Travelling is popular for a number of reasons. It’s a great way to relax and have an adventure. 

Learning is also a strong reason why people travel. They want to experience something exciting and leave with new skills and knowledge. People may travel to learn a new language, a new cuisine and discover different cultures and places.

Question 2. Which season is the best for travelling in your opinion?

Travelling is useful anyway and anytime. Though, in my opinion, the best season for travelling is summer: sunshine and green grass, the fragrance of flowers and fine weather add more pleasure to your trip and help to enjoy the rest.

Question 3. What means of transport is the best? Why?

As for the best means of transport, I prefer travelling by train. It is still one of the cheapest ways of travelling. Speed, comfort and safety are the main advantages of trains. It is much less stressful than plane travel. Moreover, it gives you time and space to read, sleep or watch movies.

Question 4. What do tourists usually do while travelling?

To my mind, most tourists enjoy sightseeing while travelling. 

They like visiting places of great historical and cultural interest and learning about different architectural styles. Many people, especially women, find great pleasure in shopping. For example, in Milan there are great sales in shops when you can buy brand clothes much cheaper than the same things in your city.

Question 5.  What places in your region do you recommend tourists should  visit?

I recommend tourists should visit Moscow because it is an exciting place with some of the world’s best sights, attractions and activities. The capital of Russia is home to some of the best museums, theatres, gardens and parks.

To my mind, Lake Baikal is worth visiting too. It is the most famous natural wonder in Russia. The Baikal is the deepest lake in the world. The greatest depth here makes 1637 metres! Moreover, the scenery around it is peaceful and charming.

Question 6. Is it easier to travel nowadays than centuries ago? Why?

I suppose it is much easier to travel nowadays than centuries ago.

Faster forms of transport have allowed to save time while travelling either on business or for pleasure.

Today, thanks to the Internet and smartphones, travellers can book their own flights and hotels online. Moreover, GPS-locators can find any place they want. Modern carriages, coaches and ships have become more comfortable. 

Question 7. What place would you like to go to? Why?

I’d like to visit London because it is an exciting city with some of the world’s best sights, attractions and activities. 

It would be wonderful if I could see the city from above on the London Eye or meet a celebrity at Madame Tussauds. London is home to some of the best museums, theatres, gardens and parks. I’m anxious to visit Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, St Paul’s Cathedral and other places of interest.

Question 8. What country or continent would you like to visit?

I would like to visit Africa. It is the world’s oldest populated continent. Over 25% of all languages are spoken only there. It would be great to see the Sahara Desert, Lake Victoria as well as the Nile River which is the longest river in the world. Africa is also home to many endangered species. I guess the unique variety of animals, birds and plants is a major reason for visiting this fantastic continent.

To sum up, there’s always a reason to take a trip which can help open your mind and learn more about yourself.
