Valentine’s Day

     The 14th of February is called Valentine’s Day. That is when every man and every woman thinks about his or her sweetheart. On this day you can buy cards in shops or you can make cards yourselves - it depends on how much you are in love with    somebody, and it says, “To my darling Valentine”, but you don’t sign it.

     Normally when you send a card to somebody, you put “Love from Tanya” or “Love from Mike” or something at the bottom. But this time you don’t sign it. You send it to the person with whom you are in love. He or she may not even know it, but you send a card to somebody, and the only way to guess who send it would be from the address on the front of the envelope.

     You might write, “I love you, darling” or “Will you be my Valentine?”. Schoolchildren always send Valentine’s cards to each other. They drop them in the bag, or put them on the desk, or just drop them on the floor, as somebody is going past, and then run away.
