Тема урока: “Mass Media” (Средства массовой информации).

Подтема: “What is the Media?” (Что такое СМИ?).

Цель урока: Контроль и закрепление знаний учащихся по теме «СМИ».

Задачи урока:  1. Тренировать лексические навыки учащихся с помощью игровой формы работы;

 2.  Разыграть диалоги. Тренировать диалогическую речь;

 3. Читать текст с полным пониманием прочитанного;

 4. Кратко отвечать на вопросы с опорой на текст;

 5. Извлекать из текста информацию, выражать к ней свое отношение и использовать полученные сведения в собственном высказывании;

 6. Активизировать лексические навыки по теме «СМИ» в речи;

 7.  Выразить свое отношение к СМИ.

Оборудование: для оформления класса – книги, журналы, газеты, большой плакат с   кроссвордом; тексты с вопросами, учебники.

Начало урока

      Good morning boys, girls and teachers! I’m glad to see you! Sit down, please. How are you? Good or bad? – Ok!

Подготовительный этап

So, let’s start our lesson.

  • Who is on duty today? (I’m on duty today.)
  • What date is it today? (Today is the 12th of March.)
  • What day of the week is it today? (It’s Friday.)
  • Who is absent today? (Nobody.)

Thank you, sit down, please.

       Tell me, please, what is the weather today? (Spring in the air. The sky is completely clear. There’s quite a chill in the air this morning. It’s warm outside.)

      What is the temperature today? (Today is … degrees in the shade.)

Thank you, children!

      And the theme of our lesson is “Mass Media”.

      And our plan for the lesson is the following: we’ll check up our phonetics; remember the words; check up your homework (act out the dialogues); play game; read the text “Mass Media” and we’ll answer the questions.

      And now, let’s get down to our phonetics. We’ll start our lesson with the poem. Look at the blackboard. I’d like to read a poem to you. Listen to me.

If many men knew

What many men know,

If many men went

Where  many men go,

If many men did

What many men do,

The world would be better –

I think so, don’t you?

      Let’s translate this poem.

Если бы многие мужчины знали

Что многие мужчины знают,

Если бы многие мужчины ходили

Туда куда многие мужчины ходят,

Если бы многие мужчины делали то,

Что многие мужчины делают,

Мир стал бы лучше –

Так думаю я, не так ли?

      And now, listen to me and repeat after me. All together, please, and take your time.

Many, knew, what,  men know, went, where, many men go, many men,

the world,  would, the world would,  better, be better, think, don’t you

       Let’s read the poem once more. Without me, please! (дети читают стихотворение хором без учителя)

        I. The task is the following. How many words about “Mass Media” do you know? Look at the blackboard and answer the question. Find 15 words in the Word Square. It’s clear for you? Ok!

       II. Well done! Let’s check up your homework. How did you get on with your homework? Your home task was to act out the dialogue.

      So, the 1st dialogue – the interview is between a reporter with a well-known American producer (his name is Mr. Marlow).

Girls, come to the blackboard, please. Act out this dialogue. (ребята разыгрывают диалог)

R: Which book or books are you reading now?

M: “Seven Pillars of Wisdom” by Т. Е. Lawrence.

R: Where is your favourite place to read?

M: In an armchair by the fire, or by a river on holiday.

R: Who is your favourite poet?

M: I think, William Shakespeare.

R: Who is your favourite character?

M: Robinson Crusoe – he’s a strong man and very smart, too.

R: Name three desert island choices.

M: Lofty Wiseman’s SAS Survival Handbook (useful), Т. E. Lawrence’s “Seven Pillars of Wisdom” (gripping), The Bible (I could be on the island a long time!)

R: What is your favourite children’s book?

M: Any by R. Kipling.

R: What book would you like to be filmed?

M: The Encyclopedia – it would be watched as a detective film.

R: Which book changed your life?

M: I have to confess it was The Oxford Dictionary of Quotations.

R: Which book would you think is good reading for everyone?

M: Same again – it has wisdom from five centuries in it.

      And now the 2nd dialogue. The dialogue is between the members of a football fan’s family. Children, come to the blackboard and act out your dialogue. (ребята разыгрывают диалог)

Mum: Good morning, dear. Good morning. What’s the matter?

Mark: Dad says that he’s lost his voice.

Mum: He has lost his voice! He can’t. It must be a joke. Come on, dear.     Don't joke.

Mark: He says it isn’t a joke. He has really lost his voice.

Mum: I’ll make a nice cup of tea. You’ll soon get your voice back.

Susan: How did you lose your voice, Dad?

Mark: He says he  went to the football match last night.

Susan: And you shouted so much you lost your voice.

Mark: Yes, he shouted so much he lost his voice.

Susan: Did you win?

Mark: No, they lost.

Mum: Here is a nice cup of tea. Would you like something to eat?

Mark: He says he would like some toast with honey.

Susan: Why honey, Mum?                 

Mum: Because honey is good for your throat.

     Ok. You are good boys and girls!

III. I think you are tired after all your hard work. Now let’s have a little fun. We’ll play “The Memory Game”. I shall call on a boy or a girl, who must name any word on the theme “Mass Media” (for axample: newspaper). The next pupil must repeat this word and add another (for example: newspaper, radio). The third pupil repeats these two words and adds another (for example: newspaper, radio, television) and so on.

Обязательное условие игры – ученики не должны повторяться, но слова должны называться в том же порядке, как они назывались. Сделавшие ошибки школьники выбывают из игры. Побеждает тот ученик, который назовет правильно больше слов по теме.

IV. We’re about to read to an interesting text today. Read, translate and answer the questions:

Mass Media

Mass media or mass communications are the press, radio and television.

Every day we read newspapers, and magazines, listen to radio and watch TV. Nowadays there are so many newspapers and magazines, radio stations and TV channels that we have to be very selective and give preference to some of them.

What newspapers and magazines do I prefer to read? I like to read the following newspapers: "Komsomolskaya Pravda" ("Komsomol Truth"), "Nezavisimost" ("Independence"), "Argumenty i Fakty" ("Arguments and Facts").

Several periodicals are available in English. As far as newspapers are concerned they may be daily, or weekly. Magazines may be weekly, monthly and quarterly.

The newspapers and magazines I read are the most readable and have a large readership or circulation. For example, "Argumenty i Fakty" has a circulation of more than 23 000 000. It is the largest in the world. The newspapers contain and give coverage of local, home and foreign affairs. Their publications deal with very burning problems of our history, latest events and forecasts for future. They also touch upon cultural, sport news. I like the way they present different points of view, approaches to the problems. My parents and I subscribe to some periodicals, so we are subscribers. We buy some of newspapers and magazines in a kiosk.

I often listen to radio, especially in the morning before I leave for school. I prefer to listen to "Mayak" ("Lighthouse") programm. They broadcast much news and music. I like to listen to weekend programmes, some of them are very amusing and entertaining.

As to the TV, we have 4 channels. I prefer to watch youth programmes.

In addition I like to see interesting films. They might be feature, adventure, scientific, horror, cartoon and other films. I enjoy seeing Walt Disney's cartoons. Now and then I like to see the programme "Love at First Sight". It is an enjoyable and entertaining one.

4.  What do radio programmes broadcast?

5. Where do you buy newspapers?
