English teaching profile.

I really like working at school. I enjoy meeting my pupils and helping them to achieve our goals.

Talking about my teaching style, I consider that teachers should try to use English at the lessons as much as possible. And give an opportunity to listen to native speakers. But there are situations when the usage of L1 is more preferable ( for instance, when we clarify new grammar material. In that situation we can use our mother tongue as a base for an explanation).

I try to ask my learners to speak in complete sentences but in real-life communicative situation we shorten sentences to express the main idea. So sometimes it is reasonable not to ask them to speak the whole sentences.

Lengthy writing exercises are very time –consuming, but using them depends on our goals and aims. I try to alternate activities. In some cases it is necessary for my pupils. And authentic material can help them not to get bored.

When we work with new words I try to illustrate or explain their meaning, sometimes they can guess the meaning from the context. And I don’t show learners how to spell a word until they’ve heard it and practice several times.

I always try to use a lot of games and songs to lighten the atmosphere.

When I think of my teaching approach, I can’t nominate it as a mix of approaches. I follow learner-centered approach and communicative approach.  Speaking about teaching style, mine is Democratic.  I try to be friendly and creative with my pupils.

What is a “teacher” for me?  A language teacher is a person who is a qualified professional, a person who helps learners to understand language rules in interesting ways, a person who develops learners skills  and knowledge .
