Marty the Martian
Урок-драматизация
Цель: развитие навыков говорения
Задачи: развитие навыков аудирования учащихся, развитие учебных стратегий учащихся, развитие мышления – предугадывание, догадка; развитие концентрации внимания, памяти учащихся, развитие эмпатии и эмоциональной сферы учащихся, развитие логики; формирование стойкого положительного отношения к изучению иностранного языка.
Материал: Vocabulary – Food
Оборудование: проектор, презентация, раздаточный материал, атрибуты к постановке (шоколад, мороженое, капуста, печенье).
LESSON PLAN
1. Social introduction.
T – Good morning, boys and girls.
Today we have quests. But a special guest hasn’t come yet. I want to tell you about him.
2. Listening (игровая завязка)
T – And you guess, please, who he is.
He isn’t a boy. And he wants to have friends with you. He is kind and friendly. He came from another planet. Sometimes he is green with horns.
(Ss - An alien)
T – That’s right; an alien Marty is our guest today. But where is he? Where?
(учитель ищет Марти вокруг)
T – But maybe you are Marty. Are you Marty? Are YOU Marty? Are YOU Marty? Let’s find where Marty is!
All aliens like to eat. But they like different food. They don’t like cheese, they don’t like apples, and they don’t like cakes. Let’s find what they like to eat!
3. Speaking (активизация лексики в речи)
T – I need 3 students: Mariam, Andrey, Alex. You will look for the aliens asking what they eat. The aliens are among us! Now go outside the classroom and wait.
OK, who wants to be an alien? Alex, Mark and Emmanuel, you are aliens. When Mariam, Andrey, Alex ask you what you like to eat, reply that you like nails, tables, chairs and something like this.
Mariam, Andrey, Alex, come in and find 3 aliens among us.
(The 3 students then come back in the classroom and have to race to find the space alien by randomly asking other students what they like to eat until they find him or her)
4. Introducing the context (visualization)
T – We have found 3 aliens. But we haven’t found Marty. Where is Marty?
First of all we should know what he looks like and what he likes.
I can tell you. And you remember each detail. Then YOU will tell me who Marty is.
- Sit with your back straight. Take a few deep breaths. Now close your eyes. If you don't want to close your eyes, that's fine.
- Imagine you have a TV set in front of your eyes. When you switch on the TV I'd like you to see a white screen. Switch on your TV now and see the white screen.
- And now try to see what I tell you.
Once upon a time an alien came to our planet. He was little and green. He liked to watch TV and play football. He liked bananas. Mmm… bananas!... Yumm-yumm! And he sang songs. La-la-la… Hear his songs… La-la-la… And he danced in the rain. See his dance! Marty was very kind and funny. He was nice. He had a yellow ball.
- Now switch off your TV.
- When you're ready open your eyes again.
T – So, what does Marty look like?
Is he yellow? Is he red? Is he funny?
So where is his picture?

5. Pre-listening task
T – And what do you like? Write the answers to the questions that I ask, but don’t show your answers!
- Are you hungry?
- Do you eat chocolate when you are hungry?
- Do you like cauliflower?
- What do you like to eat?
- What do you like to drink?
And now look at your partners and make guesses about them. Think what are their answers.
(The teacher writes the questions down on the board)
(Ss discuss their guesses)
6. While-listening task
Now listen to a story about Marty to answer the same questions, but this time for Marty.
- Is he hungry?
- Does he eat chocolate when he is hungry?
- Does he like cauliflower?
- What does he like to eat?
- What does he like to drink?
(The teacher tells the story)

Anna Ah. I’m Anna. And where are you from?
Marty I’m from Mars…and … I’m hungry!
Anna Do you like chocolate?
Marty I love chocolate!
Anna Here you are. Try this!
Marty (Eats all the Mars Bar very fast) Ugh! I don’t like chocolate!
Anna Oh no! My Mars Bar. My Mars Bar!
Marty I’m hungry!
Anna Well. Let’s go to Peter’s.

Peter’s house
Peter is eating an ice-cream.
Peter Hello Anna. Who are you?
Marty I’m Marty.
Peter Oh. Hello Marty. I’m Peter.
Marty I’m hungry!
Peter Do you like ice cream?
Marty I love ice cream!
Peter Here you are. Try this!
Marty (Eats all the ice cream very fast) Ugh! I don’t like ice cream!
Peter Oh no! My ice cream. My ice cream!
Marty I’m hungry!
Peter Well. Let’s go to Chris’s.

Chris’s house
Chris is eating biscuits.
Chris Hello Anna. Who are you?
Marty I’m Marty.
Chris Oh. Hello Marty. I’m Chris.
Marty I’m hungry!
Chris Do you like biscuits?
Marty I love ice cream!
Chris Here you are. Try this!
Marty (Eats all the biscuits very fast) Ugh! I don’t like biscuits!
Chris Oh no! My biscuits. My biscuits!
Marty I’m hungry!
Chris Well. Let’s go to Mrs. Brown’s.
SCENE 4___________________________
Mrs. Brown’s house
Mrs. Brown is giving Baby Brown his cauliflower. He doesn’t like it. The others watch.
Mrs. Brown Here you are, lovely cauliflower.
Baby Brown No, no, no. I don’t like cauliflower.
Marty I’m hungry!
Baby Brown Here you are!
Marty (Eats the cauliflower very fast) Mmmm. Lovely. Tasty. I love cauliflower.
Peter Oh, no! Ugh!
Marty I like cauliflower.
Anna Oh yuck, he likes cauliflower!
(Pupils answer the questions)
7. Staging
T – Do you like this play?
Is it interesting?
Let’s stage it right now!
7.1. Learning the lines
The teacher introduces the dialogue to the whole class
The teacher decides which student plays which part, taking into account the character and language abilities of each child
The teacher helps the students to make the character their own.
T – First of all you should know your own lines and when to say them. This means you should listen for the line before yours.
All Marties raise your hands. You come here. All Annas come there….
(Putting the students playing the same part together).
T – Underline your own lines with a pen, and the line before yours with a pencil. Check each other.
7.2. Choral drilling
Teacher reads the play again. All the students playing the same character read out the lines together in chorus.
(Turn the texts over and try going through the play in chorus again)
T – Return to your groups and say the play through.
