Do You Know English-Speaking Countries?

Цель: Развитие мотивации к изучению английского языка и культуры.

Задачи:

1. Воспитательная - воспитание уважения к культуре и истории других народов.

2. Образовательная - формирование и развитие коммуникативной культуры учащихся; различных видов их деятельности.

3. Развивающая - развитие социокультурных навыков и умений.

        Форма проведения: викторина.

Ход мероприятия

The beginning of the competition

The teacher: Good morning, everybody! We are very glad that you’ve decided to take part in our competition! Our contest is devoted to the English-speaking countries. I’m sure that you’ll get to know a lot of useful information connected with the countries and today you’ve got a wonderful chance to show your achievements and knowledge in this field. Do be active today and you are sure to be a success.

The 1st game

The task: You see the map of the world. Find and circle the countries where English is the official language.

The 2nd game

The task: Please, mention English-speaking countries in turn. Every country you name brings you 1 point. You are welcome!

The 3d game “Flags and capitals”

The task: Have a look on the blackboard. You see 6 flags of different countries. The 1st team is to match cards with the names of the countries and the second one – the names of the capitals to the flags. Here you get two envelopes with the cards. Captains, take your envelopes, please!

The 4th game

        The task: Guess the names of these countries. Listen to the teacher and guess what country she is speaking about. Who is quicker?

1. This country is one of the largest in the world. It is washed by the Atlantic ocean in the East and by the pacific ocean in the west. What is it? (The USA)

2. It is a country which looks like an island. It is not very big, but beautiful. It is a country of fog and rain. There are a lot of places of interest. (Great Britain)

3. This country occupies a whole continent. It has strange animals and plants and unique nature. It’s very far from our country. (Australia)

The task: Now will you make the right choice: I’ll give you cards with the tasks. Choose the right answer.

The task: Combine the two parts to get a name.

The 8th Game “Proverbs”

The task: Give the Russian variants of the English proverbs.

Better late than never. (Лучше поздно, чем никогда)

Better an egg today than a hen tomorrow. (Лучше синица в руках, чем журавль в небе)

East or west, home is best. (В гостях хорошо, а дома лучше)

Everything is good in its season. (Всё хорошо в своё время)

Out of sight, out of mind. (С глаз долой — из сердца вон)

All roads lead to Rome. (Все дороги ведут в Рим)

You can’t kill two birds with one stone. (Убить двух зайцев)

All is well that ends well. (Всё хорошо, что хорошо кончается)

Appetite comes with eating. (Аппетит приходит во время еды)

Live and learn. (Век живи – век учись)

Every dog has his day. (И на нашей улице будет праздник)

The teacher: That is all. In the end all the teams get together and show a little concert where they can demonstrate their talents. Nobody leaves the party without a prize.
