Цель урока: научить опознавать и употреблять прилагательные much, many и синонимические единицы a lot of (lots of) для выражения множественности.
- Организационный момент.
Hello everybody! I’m glad to see you again, guys!
- How are you today, Sonya?
- How are you today, Misha?
- Are you fine, Polina ? Yes, I am.
Hope everybody is Ok today. So we get started.
Have a look at our weather board. What’s the weather like today?
- Is it cold or warm? It’s cold.
- Is it windy? Yes, it is. It is windy.
- Is it rainy? No, it isn’t rainy.
It’s time to say hello to our girl. Hello, Sue! (работа с персонажем на доске.)Who wants to dress her for the weather?
- It’s cold, Sue.
- Put on your coat!
- Put on your cap!
- Put on your boots!

There are her clothes and here are her meals.
You can see the food she likes eating. Do you know these words? Yes, we do. Great! Let me see.
But first we are going to practice your pronunciation. Pay attention!

So we have a lot of food into the baskets. A lot of food. How much food do we have? A lot of food.
Today we’ll try to guess when we use the words A LOT OF, LOTS, MANY and MUCH.

If we got an apple – we say AN APPLE
If we have got two, three, four, five or more apple – we say A LOT OF apples or LOTS apples.
If we ask we say – HOW MANY apples.
Sometimes we say - TOO MANY apples.

This is an orange.
What can you see at this picture? - A LOT OF oranges or LOTS oranges
If you ask - HOW MANY oranges?
What can you say here? TOO MANY oranges.
As I see you understand when we use the words A LOT OF and LOTS, MANY, TOO MANY.
Look at the screen again and you can see another picture.

There is some butter. There is a LOT OF butter or LOTS butter.
If we ask we use HOW MUCH butter?
About this picture we could say - TOO MUCH butter.

It is milk.
What can we say about five glasses of milk? MUCH milk
How we ask - HOW MUCH milk?
What can we say about this quantity of milk? – TOO MUCH milk.
Great! Now we now what the words LOTS, A LOT OF, MANY and MUCH mean. We use LOTS and A LOT OF in affirmative sentences. We use HOW MANY and HOW MUCH in questions. How to choose between MANY and MUCH, I wonder? We’ll see a bit later.

Well, actually, you don’t know the difference between words MUCH and MANY, do you? Yes, we do.
To make it clear we have to remember countable and uncountable nouns.
Sergey, come to the blackboard.
Choose a picture. Read the word.
Can we count tea? No, we can’t This is an uncountable noun.
Can we count apples? Yes, we can. This is a countable noun.
Is everybody clear? Great!
Now I would like to explain the rules of the next game. That will be BINGO GAME. Can you play BINGO GAME? No? Really? You can. I’m sure.
You will play with your partner. Everybody has a Bingo card. Some of you have cards with countable nouns and others with uncountable nouns.
You have twenty playing cards with countable and uncountable nouns. You task is to place the playing cards on the free spaces of your Bingo card. When you fill in every space at your Bingo card you should call out BINGO. Is everybody clear? Are you ready? Let’s start!
Anya is the first. Anya is a winner. Class continue working! Have you finished? Not yet?

There is another set of playing cards. The set consists of lots words to makeup questions. Make up as many sentences as you can.
Work in group of 4 or 3. You are a group of three and you are a group of four.
Don’t forget about the word order.
You have 2 minutes. Let’s begin.
The first group. How many questions have you make?
Ask me your questions. They were good questions.
The second group. How many questions have you make?
They were very interesting questions.

Now listen to the conversation between Kitty and her friend Nancy. Try to catch what she drank yesterday.
What did she drink? – juice How much juice did she drink yesterday? Too much.
The next dialogue is between Liz and Polly. Listen them carefully you should catch what Polly ate last night.
What did she eat? – cookies How many cookies did she eat? Too many.
Open your SB at page 78 and read the dialogues. Read after the announcer. Are you ready to the second listening? Read them in pairs.
