Halloween. The Game.
- Find the wrong sentences in the text about Halloween.
Halloween, meaning “holy evening” comes on December, 31. At this holiday the souls of the dead return. It always had been better not to leave the house to avoid meeting with the Souls returned. The holiday is celebrated with bonfires, games and masquerading.
Halloween is a grown-up’s holiday. Dressed as skeletons, witches or ghosts they go from door to door in the morning of October, 31st. It’s the bright sun in the street. They ring the bell and when the door is opened shout “Keep quiet! It’s robbery!”
The children who open the door have everything ready: money, wine, cigarettes. Grandparents usually accompany grown-ups on these excursions; especially if hey have to cross the street.
When the Romans conquered Britain, they added to Halloween their traditional harvest festival. Because of it the holiday is decorated with carrots and tomatoes.
The next night is also a holiday – New Year – the first of January.
Children don’t like this holiday, but it’s the favourite festival for grandparents.
