Teacher: Our dear friends, we are glad to see you here! Today we are going to tell you about one of the charming holidays and traditions connected with it.

Host 1: Traditions... They make a nation special. Some of them are old-fashioned, others are part of people's life.

Host 2: But Christmas is a holiday full of every kind of tradition.

A Christian holy day held on December the 25th in honour of the birth of Christ.

It's a happy holiday for many people in different countries.

Host 3: Jesus Christ was born by Mary the Virgin. Christ the Saviour was born 1998 years ago. His story comes from the Bible. Shepherds were watching their sheep when they saw a new bright blue shining star in the sky. An Angel appeared to them and told that the Saviour had been born in Bethlehem. "Glory streams from the Heaven afar. Holy infant sleeps in heavenly peace. Heavenly hosts sing Hallelujah."

Host 4: Christmas is a religious holiday when people have parties, light candles and give each other gifts.

(звучит песня "Mary's Boy Child Jesus Christ", ребята подпевают, покачивая веточками хвои)

Host 5: And do you know what do people usually do before Christmas?

Pupils:  – People decorate fir-tree with tinsels, baubles and fairy-lights and prepare presents for their nearest and dearest.

  • People write and send beautiful postcards.
  • People go to church and attend the service.
  • People cook dinner for the whole family.
  • When children go to bed they put their stockings near their beds.
  • People sing carols.

(Звучит гимн "Silent Night" в исполнении хора учеников)

Silent night, Holy night, all is calm,

All is bright.

Round von Virgin, Mother and Child,

Holy Infant, so tender and mild

Sleep in heavenly peace

Silent night, Holy night, Shepherds quake

at the sight.

Glory streams from Heaven afar.

Heavenly hosts sing Hallelujah

Christ the Savior is born,

Christ the Savior is born.

Silent night, Holy night, Son of God,

Love's pure light.

Radiant beams from Thy holy Face.

With the dawn of redeeming grace,

Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth,

Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth.

Host 2: Oh, that's right! But when Big Ben strikes the last the holiday starts! And people say:

        "Merry Christmas!"

"Happy Christmas!"

Pupil: Читает стихотворение " Christmas Message" by H.W. Longfellow.

I heard the bells on Christmas Day

Their old familiar carols play,

And wild and sweet

The words repeat

Of peace on earth, good will to men.

Host 3: The Queen's Christmas speech is a modern custom. ( на экране слайд)

Her Honesty makes a speech on radio or TV. The speech is connected with the

events of the past year and the greetings of the coming year.

Host 1: Every year there is a very big X-mas tree in the centre of London in Trafalgar Square.

(Слайд) There is a present from the people of Norway to the people of Great Britain. They send it to Londoners every year. It is fifty feet high.

Pupil: And people set off firecrackers.

Host 4: The most famous celebration is in the centre of London (слайд) where people gather and sing "Auld Lang Syne"

(Children cross their arms, join hands, and sing the song)

Should old acquaintance be forgot

And never brought to mind?

Should old acquaintance be forgot

And days of auld lang lyne?

And days of auld lang syne, my dear,

And days of auld lang syne?

Should old acquaintance be forgot

And days of auld lang syne?

And there's a hand, my trusty friend,

And gi's hand o'thine

We'll take a cup o'kindness yet,

For auld lang syne.

For auld lang syne, my dear

For auld lang syne.

We'll take a cup o'kindness yet,

For auld lang syne.

Host 5: For Christmas lunch people eat turkey, potatoes and green vegetables. (Слайд)

Then they have the Christmas pudding. And do you know what is it made of? It is made of plums, sugar, raisins, flour, different kinds of nuts and is being cooked for many hours.

5 o'clock. It's time for tea and Christmas cake.

Host 2: At Christmas lunch people say toasts:

"The world is so full

Of a number of things.

I'm sure we should all

Be happy as kings".

Host 1: The day after Christmas is Boxing Day. They do not work on that day. People usually visit their relatives and friends and present them with gifts.

Scene: Дети стучатся в дверь. Хозяйка открывает, и ей поют песню:

We wish you a Merry Christmas!

We wish you a Merry Christmas

We wish you a Merry Christmas

And a Happy New Year!

Один из гостей вручает хозяйке подарок.

- It's for you!

- Oh! Perfect! Thanks a lot! (разворачивает подарок) It's just what I wanted! It's lovely! Thank you very much! You couldn't find a better gift! Come in and have a fun with us!

Host 2: Let's guess the riddles about Christmas.

  3. It's a national meal which people cook for Christmas party. They think that if they all take part in mixing it they will be happy, (pudding).

  3. down the chimney.
  1. What is Rudolf the red-nosed reindeer famous for?
  1. his long tail;
  2. his big red nose;
  3. his charming smile.
  1. How many reindeer pull Santa's sleigh?

  2. 9
  3. 8

Host 1: Well, well, well. This boy is the winner. Here it is a present for you. (стук в дверь) Who is there? (слышится звук колокольчиков) Come in. Oh! (Ведущий открывает дверь, появляется множество гостей, они поют песню, все подпевают, на экране слайды)

Jingle Bells

Dashing through the snow, in a one-horse open sleigh,

O'er the fields we go, laughing all the way.

Bells on bobtail ring, making spirits bright,

What fun it is to ride and sing a sleighing song tonight!

Chorus: Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way.

Oh! What fun it is to ride in a one-horse open sleigh!

Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way.

Oh! What fun it is to ride in a one-horse open sleigh!

Host 3: Wow! It was great! But there is another holiday, on the 1st of January. What is it?

Pupils: The New Year!

Host 3: That's right, but in Britain the New Year is not as widely celebrated as Christmas.

Some people ignore it completely and go to bed at usual time. The most common

type of celebration is a New Year party.

Host 2: Making new Year's resolutions is a tradition connected with the New Year. At the New Year people often decide what they are going to do, promise to improve their behaviour and give up bad habits.

Scene: (Мальчик сидит за столом и раздумывает над листком бумаги).

Mother: Mike, I have a suggestion for your New Year Resolutions.

Michael: I hope it is not that hard.

Mother: I’m afraid it is (рассматривает его грязные ботинки). But a New Year is a good reason to start a good habit.

Michael: What habit?

Mother: To clean your shoes daily.

Michael: You always make me think of my worst faults. But you are late. It is already in the list.

Mother: What else?

Michael: Walking a dog and some other things.

Host 2: Oh, thank you for your dramatizing! And what are your New Year's Resolutions?

    (ученики зачитывают свои обещания)

Will you keep them? And what other traditions do you know?

Pupil: There is a funny tradition connected with the New Year: the First Food. This is first visitor to enter a house on New Year's morning in Scotland. He is a person of great importance, because he lets the New Year into the house and brings good luck to the family. (Появляется ученик с дарами). Traditionally, the first visitor must carry food, drink and coal into the house.

Host 2: But do you know what for?

Pupils: - Coal helps to make fire in midwinter.

- There shall never be lack of food and drink during the coming year.

Teacher: Our dear friends, I think you had a lot of fun during our party. You’ve got to know a lot and summarized your knowledge about Christmas and New Year celebrations in Great Britain. We wish you Merry Christmas! Happy New Year! Be healthy, wealthy and wise! May the Peace and Joy of Christmas be with you always!

( Утренник продолжается. Звучит веселая музыка. Дети танцуют)
