UNIT 2   THE  WORLD’S BEST FRIEND IS YOU.

Section 5   What  Can  We  Do  to Save  the Earth?

Цели урока:

  1. совершенствование навыков устной речи по теме «Environmental problems»;
  2. развитие умения выбирать необходимые языковые и речевые средства для решения предложенной коммуникативной задачи;
  3. воспитание уважительного отношения к родной природе.

Задачи урока:

  1. обеспечить дальнейшую тренировку и закрепление лексики по теме «Environmental problems»;
  2. обеспечить тренировку грамматического материала по теме «Conditionals» в коммуникативно окрашенных упражнениях тренировочного характера;
  3. практиковать учащихся в чтении с извлечением  детальной информации из текста;
  4. развивать умение излагать на английском языке результаты коллективной поисково-познавательной деятельности.

Оборудование: карточки с заданием «Vocabulary Quiz», плакаты с изображением природы, текст с заданием, компьютерная презентация «How can we keep our village beautiful?»

                                                       Ход урока

    I.Организация класса.

  • Good morning , students!  I’m glad to see today. How are you?
  • Who is on duty today?
  • Who is absent?
  • Students, look at the posters at the blackboard , please. How do you think what problems we shall discuss today?

На доске плакаты:  

S.1:  I think we shall discuss the problems of pollution of our environment.

S.2:  I guess we shall discuss how we can save the Earth from pollution.

T.:  You are right.  Today  we go on studying  the theme “ What Can We Do to Save the Earth?” And  we’ll discuss what we can do to save the beaty of our village.

II.Обучение лексической стороне речи.

T.: First of all let’s repeat the words and word combinations on the theme “Environmental problems”

Карточки с заданием   «Vocabulary Quiz»

Task 1.  Find the pairs of opposite words.

Task 2. Find the words with the same meaning.

III.Обучение грамматической стороне речи.

T.: Let’s do  ex . 56 p.54

Complete the sentences using Conditional II.

  1. If all people decided to save our world, ...
  2. If people took cans, bottles, paper to local recycling centres, ...
  3. If people bought only the things they really needed, ...
  4. If people tried to walk or cycle instead of driving cars, ...
  5. If people didn’t drop litter in the countryside, ...

Use :

  1. to make the world a better place; to stop polluting air, rivers, seas and oceans, etc.
  2. to avoid littering; to save energy / trees, etc.
  3. to produce less packaged  goods; to save rainforests, to create too much litter
  4. to pollute the atmosphere; to produce gases; to cause “greenhouse” effect: to lead to ozone holes, etc.
  5. to be spoiled; to disappear; to damage/to be damaged;  to contaminate / to be contaminated, etc.
  6. to save a lot of trees / wildlife / animals, birds, insects living in the forests; protect the environment / the planet / the Earth from littering, etc.
  7. to save a lot of trees / energy; to reduce air pollution / littering, etc.

   IV.Обучение чтению с извлечением детальной информации из текста.

Now, students, read the text “THE  WORLD OF NATURE” and do the tasks.

                                          THE  WORLD OF NATURE.

      1. People have always  affected Nature. But during the last two centuries due to the development of industry human has transformed  the environment radically. Satellite observations of the Earth have revealed that 60% of land surface is damaged  by industrial agricultural and other human activities.

       2   .The world has over 9 million square km of forests. This is a lot of trees, and also a lot of   different species of trees. But they are disappearing fast. In many of our towns there are streets or areas where the names remind us that forests have been cleared to make place us to live.

Every day we see paper and cardboard – both made from wood – being used up. We see different kinds of wood being used in furniture and other ways. Every year over 100 000 sq. km. of forest is so badly damaged that it is very hard for it to recover.

3.   Development of industries often means the destruction of the natural habitat of rare plants     and insects. The power stations in the UK are responsible for causing acid rain not only in Britain but elsewhere in Europe. More than 450 mln of Britain’s trees are affected by acid rain.

  1. The world is also experiencing a permanent decline in water quality and water availability. In a lot of places water supplies are poisoned with toxic chemicals and nitrates. Waterborne diseases kill 10 million people a year.
  2. Can we presererve the life?  Can we preserve the quality of life necessary for future generations? When we are sick we try to take care of ourselves. There is nobody but us, humans, to take care of the Earth that is sick because of our actions. Can we do something? YES,we can. And we are the only life form that is able to destroy our life support system. But we are sensible beings and we can maintain life on Earth for the many generations to come.

   V.Обучение говорению.

T.: You understood that  people can pollute the environment very much. But people can save it too. It depends from each of us. How can we help our nature?

What can we do for it?

Last month we cleaned the territiory near the bus stop.  Group of girls of your class made a presentation “How can we keep our village beautiful?» It was their personal task.  Let’s see and listen to their presentation.

T.: Let’s discuss the presentation. How do you think what signs you could put up in the streets of our village to save its beauty?

S.1: Avoid dropping litter here!

S.2: Put your litter in the bin1

S.3: Please, keep off the grass!

S.4: Help to clean up your local environment.

S.5: Take care of  nature!

S.6: Take your rubbish to local recycling centres.

 T.: Students, do you know now what you can do to save the Earth from pollution?

What can you do to save the beauty of our village?

S.1:  We can never drop litter.

S.2: We can  pick up litter and put up signs that say, “Please don’t litter”.

S.3: We can stop and think before we throw anything away.

S.4: We can help to clean up our local envirinment.

S.5: We can plant flowers and trees to make our village nicer.

S.6: We can try to avoid buying things  we really  don’t have any use for.

T.:  What is  the conclusion of our lesson ?

S.: We must take care of our nature, help it and love it.

     VI.Подведение итогов урока.

Homework

Make a poster warning people about environmental problems.
