ПРОЕКТ «Music preferences profile»

Проектная методика считается чрезвычайно перспективным направлением в методике преподавания  иностранного языка,  как на начальном этапе обучения, так и в старших классах.  Вот несколько причин, по которым работе над проектом следует уделять большое внимание, особенно в старших классах:

1.Метод проектов позволяет обратить внимание учащихся на актуальные  вопросы и проблемы, возникающие у современных подростков  в разных сферах жизни в процессе их общения с семьёй, со сверстниками, во время путешествия, в школе и др.

2.Выполнение проектных работ на актуальные темы наглядно демонстрирует учащимся важность английского языка как средства, значительно расширяющего их доступ к информации, и, следовательно, способствует повышению мотивации к его изучению.

3.Работа над проектом  является одним из наиболее эффективных способов формирования критического мышления.

4.Метод проектов подразумевает работу в группах, чем способствует развитию учебно-социальных навыков, которые крайне важны в современной жизни. При работе в команде важно научиться определять объём информации и последовательность работы с ней, распределять сферы ответственности, знать, как объединить результаты и сделать общие выводы.

5.Использование проектной методики позволяет сделать процесс обучения более увлекательным и творческим.

Тип проекта: информационный с элементом ролевой игры.

Планируемый результат: учащиеся находят информацию о выдающихся музыкантах, музыкальных группах, популярных певцах, модных направлениях в музыке; им предстоит узнать о музыкальных вкусах своих одноклассников, обобщить мнения и сообщить о них всему классу в виде ток-шоу.

Задачи:

- учиться извлекать из текста информацию и использовать полученные сведения в работе;

- учиться обосновывать своё мнение и вести диалог;

-учиться представлять информацию в виде презентаций;

- активизировать изученный лексико-грамматический материал.

Welcome to our talk-show. Today we are going to speak about music. The most meaningful activities in our life revolve around music. A lot of people like music. But if we ask several people what kind of music they like, all of them give different answers. Tasters differ. As for me, I like good music and I don’t care if it’s pop, chanson, classical or folk music. I’m not interested in special kind. Some music I listen to on the telly is nonsense, but some can tell  a story about people’s lives like songs from films. I started crying when I heard the song from the film Titanic. I enjoy listening to Russian folk songs or romances. It’s very interesting to know about your music preferences.

Meet our  guest –Alena- she is a journalist of a youth magazine.

Hi! I’ve been writing an article about teens, their activities, likes and dislikes. Today, with the development of mass media and means of communication, teenagers listen to the same music and dance with the same  DJs in the East and in the West.

Do you prefer pop music? Is listening to pop music means that you have bad taste?    

I know that teens and especially girls are fans of pop music. Who is your favourite singer/musician/group?

To my mind , music can even bridge the generation gap. I think there is hardly anyone in the civilized world who doesn’t know The Beatles. They are well-known to our parents and grandparents. Their music is popular in many countries . People sing Yesterday, Michelle, Yellow Submarine in England, Russia, the USA, Japan, China. We have some information about this legendary band.

Really he is the king of rock’n’roll. He is an idol for millions. What does rock’n’roll mean? Do you know?

The rock’n’roll(rock and roll means “to be shaken and turn”) became the first big direction in rock music in the 50s. Rock’n’roll first of all is a dance music.

Nowadays it’s very popular and cool so-called club music. As for me such music makes me feel only negative emotions :anger and irritation. And what about you?

I’d like to make a conclusion summarizing your opinions:

The  majority of students in your group prefer light, modern, tuneful and energetic melodies;

Only one student can play the musical instrument;

Very few students like classical music;

Almost all students know classical composers. It’s great!

It’s typical of teens to think that life would not be complete without music;

Most of the students in your group are for pop music.

According to my special researches I’d like to say the following:

1. Preferences in music can say a lot about the person’s identity;
2. People who like classical music generally have a good character and seldom commit crimes;

-All people should listen to classical music, especially teens. It’s good for their health, I mean positive emotions.

   - The right kind of music can evoke good memories and make a bad day a bit better;

    - If a child listens to rock music, heavy metal or rap, he is likely to become aggressive and violent;

    - Tasters in music change as the person gets older and more mature.

     -Dolphins like classical music;

     - One Japanese researcher managed to take pictures of water. Look! The structure of water is changed by the influence of music: the structure of water is destroyed by the influence of heavy metal, rap and rock music; this photo makes us feel surprised because the structure of water has such attractive and fantastic shapes. It depends on music: the structure of music is changed by the influence of classical music and prayers.

I want to listen such music over and over again, I want to dance/sing. It affects on my emotions and mood.When I listen to his/her/their music I leave this world and enter one of my own .
5. I can’t imagine my world without music. My life would not be complete without it.

I would be very sad without music because it’s a big part of my life.

Life without music would be really boring because we need it to relax, dance, dream, listen to even to cry.

Music is something spiritual. It’s one of the best parts in our life. It makes us happy and shows the beauty and harmony of our world. Music always can help us when we are in trouble.

The word ‘rap’ had been used in British English since the 16th century. It was part of the African American dialect of English in the 1960s meaning ‘to converse’ and very soon it was used as a term denoting musical style. Rap can be traced back to its African roots: the griots of West Africa were delivering their stories rhythmically over drums and sparse instruments  during long period of time.

Today, the terms “rap” and “rapping” are often used synonymously with hip hop. Hip hop is a musical genre which began in the Bronx of New York City in the 1970s among African American, Afro Caribbean and Jamaican youths. There are two kinds of rap: one is scripted, the second is the improvisation of rapped lyrics. Rappers like to use the literary techniques of wordplay such as similes and metaphors .

 Rap is my favourite kind of music. None of my family likes it. They say they don’t understand a word of it. If I yad a chance to meet rap stars I would like to meet Timothy, Jay-Z or Eminem because I think they look great. Eminem’s album Relapse was one of the fastest selling album of 2009. My favourite song is Will the real Slim Shady please stand up? The music and words are so incredible! I can’t imagine my life without such music!

Elvis Presley

(1935 - 1977)

Elvis Presley was known as “The King” of rock’n’roll. He was born in Missisipi in 1935. At the age of 13 Elvis and his family moved to Memphis, Tennessee. Elvis Presley’s musical influences were the pop and country music, the gospel music and the black music.

In 1954 ну began his singing career with the legendary Sun Records label in Memphis. In 1956 he was already an international sensation. He sold one billion records, served in the army, moved to Hollywood and appeared in 33 films. Among his awards were 14 Granny nominations ( 3 wins) from the National Academy of Recording Art and Sciences. His talent, good looks, charisma and good humour   endeared  him to millions.  He is regarded as one of the most important figures of 20-th century. Elvis died at his Memphis home, Graceland, on August 16, 1977.

Graceland is one of the most visited homes in America today, now attracting over 600 000 visitors. It is also the most famous house  in America after the White House. In 1991 Graceland Mansion was placed on the National Register of Historic Places:

In 1992 the US Postal Service announced that Elvis’s image would be used for a commemorative postage stamp.

Elvis’s songs are still popular today. People love to imitate him. There is even an Elvis Presley Impersonation Society. Elvis impersonators dress up like Elvis and sing on stage. Some of them actually wish they were Elvis!

Currently, there are over 625 active Elvis Presley’s fan clubs worldwide. His popularity is at an all-time high.

I like the way he sings and dances. He really is the King of rock’n’roll. He is an idol for me and millions.

If  people listen to pop music , it doesn’t speak of their bad taste. It’s true, pop music doesn’t stimulate mental activity, but pop songs are good to make people feel relaxed and enjoy life. You can dance to it. I think pop music is fun and upbeat so you can sing along with it.

I don’t like pop songs because the lyrics are unoriginal and impersonal that make me think of hamburgers or hot dogs. Listening to junk music is like eating junk food – easy to consume but good for nothing.

I like this group and their music. Sometimes, people have bottled-up emotions and such music makes people feel better, it evokes strong feelings. The lyrics and the tunes are equally important in a good song: they should be brilliant, original and exciting!

I am not interested in something special. If the music is good, I don’t care if it is pop, classical, jazz or rock. Music should be fast, joyfull and energetic so you can dance to it. If I could return to the 50s I would like to go to Elvis Presley’s concert. I like the way he sings and dance!

I can play the piano. I can’t imagine my world without classical music. Music is something spiritual. It’s one of the best part in our life. It makes us feel happy and shows the beauty and harmony of the world. Classical music helps to unify people. It’s hard to imagine our life without Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, Chaikovskiy. Their music affects on me and suits my emotions.

I particularly like fast, rhythmic music because it makes me feel good and energetic. It’s important for music to have a clear and strong beat so that you can sing with it, dance to it, do sports or even clean the room! I like the way rap music sounds!

Music is a part of everyday  life. Life without it would be boring and sad. I think my life would be a disaster without music because I like it so much and could not live without it. Music makes me feel alive!

From the diagram  we can see that students of our group enjoy listening to music:
