Грамматика и письмо The First Mobile Phone On April 3,1972, a man came out of the Hilton Hotel in New York, USA, and started walking А-22 down the street. He stopped, А-23 kept a strange object against his ear and started talking into it. The man was Martin Cooper, General Manager of a major communications company, and he was making the world's first telephone call on a mobile phone, nicknamed 'the shoe' because of its unusual А-24. shape. The reason Mr Cooper had gone to New York was to А-25 introduce the new phone. The call he made was to Joe Engel who worked at a rival company. Engel was responsible А-26 for the development of radiophones for cars. "I said that I was talking on a real mobile phone that I was holding in my hand," Cooper reported. "I don't remember what he said in А-27 reply but I'm sure he wasn't happy." The quality of the call made that day was very good, because although New York had only one base station at the А-28 moment it was being used by only one user - Martin Cooper! ПИСЬМО №1. Hi, Jamie! №2. Comment on the following statement. "Living in a city has many disadvantages. Living in the country also brings its own share of problems." One point of view is "Living in a city has many disadvantages. Living in the country also brings its own share of problems."I’m agree that there many disadvantages of living in the modern city. In some our cities there are many factories and plants. That’s why polluted air is hanging over cities. Cars, buses give a collection of pollutants. Dirty air is dangerous for our health, especially for little children and old people. What is more, public transport is sometimes crowded and dirty. And I think the life in the city is more expensive than in the country. But living in the country has also some problems. Unfortunately, life in the country is rather hard. Working and living conditions are very difficult and there is no so much entertainment as in the city. It’s difficult to find a job in the country and young people go to the city to study and to work. The other point of view is "Living in a city has many advantages. Living in the country also brings no problems."There is more entertainment in the city than in the country. Life in the city is more convenient. Young people can choose where to study and work. Cities offer all good things in life: supermarkets, restaurants, cinemas, theatres. Life is never dull in the city. People live in apartments with central heating, gas, TV the Internet. But I know some people who prefer to live in the country. And sometimes I agree with them. In the country you can enjoy clean water and fresh air. Living in the country is cheaper and safer than in the city. There is less crime and there is less traffic there. Most of people know each other in the country. Life in the country is quite and healthy. Especially it’s useful for little children. Where would I prefer to live in the city or in the country? I can’t give answer. If it was possible, I’d like to live in the country the whole summer and other time I prefer to live in the city. Чтение-2
Грамматика и лексика Trip to London It was Saturday afternoon and Anna sat in her bedroom talking on her mobile phone to her best friend Kelly. "Look, we are talking about going to London for a weekend break for months now," said Anna. "I know!" laughed Kelly. "So when shall we go?" "Well, what about the weekend after next?"asked Anna."Are you free? I have heard on the radio this morning that there's a big jazz festival in London then." "Oh, I can't that weekend," Kelly replied. I've promised my grandmother that I'll spend that Saturday with her and I really don't want to cancel because we haven’t seen each other for ages." "Never mind. What about the weekend after that?" said Anna. "My older brother and one of his friends will drive down to London that weekend. We could get a lift with them." "Sounds great," said Kelly excitedly, "but are you sure your brother and his friend won’t mind us going with them?" "Well, even if they do, my mum will make sure they don't have any say in the matter!" laughed Anna. "So, it's settled then. Now all we need to do is book a hotel." 2. Cockney Rhyming Slang Cockney rhyming slang is а collection of phrases used by people from East London, England, based on words that rhyme with the words someone wants to say. Some people believe that Londoners began to use cockney rhyming slang during the 16th century, but nobody knows for certain. This usual way of speaking is often heard among the market traders of East London. Many say that they used to use this secret language among themselves so that their customs were unable to understand what they were saying. Others say that it was a way of keeping people together as the Cockneys had a strong sense of communion and wanted to exclude strangers. Today, many of the most common expressions in cockney rhyming slang are now used in normal everyday English. The saying 'use your loaf’, which means 'think', comes from the rhyming slang 'loaf of bread', which rhymes with 'head'. Some experts claim that cockney rhyming slang isn 't used as frequency any more, but one thing is certain; just like any language, it is always changing and evolving.
