«Sport and the Olympic Games»
Цели мероприятия: совершенствовать лексические навыки учащихся, навыки аудирования и говорения; воспитывать интерес к спорту и к истории Олимпийских игр.
Задачи мероприятия:
Воспитательные:
- воспитывать у учащихся интерес к изучению английского языка;
- воспитывать инициативность и активность;
- воспитывать чувство уважения друг к другу;
- воспитывать настойчивость и упорство в достижении цели.
Развивающие:
- развивать творческие способности учащихся;
- развивать навыки самостоятельной работы и работы в команде;
- развивать коммуникативно-игровые способности у учащихся;
- развивать языковую догадку, смекалку;
- развивать и тренировать познавательные процессы.
Образовательные:
- расширить кругозор учащихся;
- формировать социокультурные знания по теме «Sport and the Olympic Games».
Практические:
- тренировать умения понимать иностранную речь на слух;
- тренировать лексические навыки учащихся в рамках предложенной темы.
Форма мероприятия: игра-соревнование
Класс: старшие классы.

- презентация Power Point;
- раздаточный материал.
Подготовка:
- поиск и систематизация необходимого материала;
- создание презентации-игры;
- подготовка грамот для участников.
Ход мероприятия
Ведущий: Good afternoon, dear teachers and pupils! I am very glad to see you. Welcome to our quiz which is named «Sport and the Olympic Games». Our game consists of seven rounds. In every round you have to do different tasks, which are connected with the theme «Sport». For every correct answer you will get points. But first of all pupils should be divided into 2 teams and think up names for their teams.
Ученики делятся на две команды и придумывают названия своих команд.
Ведущий: Well, now, please, introduce your teams.
Участники игры представляют свои команды.

The 1st Round.
«Kinds of Sport».
Ведущий: Let me explain the rules of the first round. You will see certain kinds of sport in our screen and you should write them down into your papers. The names of the sports must be written in the correct form. Each correct answer can bring you one point. Well, let’s begin the 1st round.
На экране по очереди появляются картинки следующих видов спорта: Football, Volleyball, Chess, Tennis, Hockey, Snowboarding, Skiing, Figure Skating, Cycling, Swimming, Fencing, Golf, Handball, Table Tennis (Ping-pong), Badminton.
The 2nd Round.
«The History of the Olympic Games».
Ведущий: Now it is high time to come to the next round, which is connected with the history of the Olympic Games. Here your task is to answer my questions. The pupil, who wants to answer, should raise his/her hand. If the answer is correct, the team will get one point; if the answer is wrong, the turn will go to another team. If the second team’s variant is wrong, no one will get points and we will go to the next question. Is everything clear? Well, let’s begin the 2nd round.

«Guess the Sport».
Ведущий: Well done! Now let’s begin the 3rd round. I will read to you descriptions of some kinds of sport and your task is to listen and guess what sports they are.
- It is a game of two players. Each of them starts with sixteen different playing pieces to move on a board. The aim is to move your pieces so that your opponent’s king will be taken. (Chess)
- This game is played by two teams of five players on a rectangular court. The teams try to score goals by throwing a ball through a basket fixed to a metal ring at each end of a court. The players bounce the ball while running and pass it to each other. The team with the most points wins. (Basketball)
- It is a game between two teams, which is played on a field with a bat and a small white ball. Each team consists of nine players. The teams take turns playing in the field and batting the ball. The game has nine innings. (Baseball)
- This game is a variant of baseball played with a larger ball on a smaller field. It is a popular sport among American women. (Softball)
- It is a game which is played between two teams of eleven players each. Players kick a ball around a field trying to score a goal. Each team has a goalkeeper who tries to stop the ball from going into the goal. The team with the most points wins. This game is very popular in our country and all over the world. (Football)
- It is any sporting event made up of two disciplines. However, it usually refers specifically to the winter sport that combines cross-country skiing and rifle shooting. In this sport athlete runs a distance of 7.5 to 20 km and stops at the shooting range two or four times. The distance to fire is always 50 m. (Biathlon)
- It is a team sport played on ice in which skaters use sticks to shoot a hard rubber puck into their opponent’s net to score points. Five members of each team skate up and down the ice trying to take the puck and score a goal against the opposing team. Each team has a goalkeeper who tries to stop the puck from going into the goal. (Hockey)
- It is a sport and activity in which individuals, duos or groups perform on skates on ice. This sport is based on movement of the sportsman to music on one or both legs, with the changes of the sliding direction, rotation, jumps and combinations of steps. (Figure skating)
- It is a sport that people usually play individually against a single opponent or between two teams of two players each. Each player uses a racquet to strike a hollow rubber ball over or around a net and into the opponent’s court. The object of the game is to play the ball in such a way that the opponent is not able to play a good return. It is an Olympic sport and it is played at all levels of society and at all ages. - It is a hybrid form of swimming, dance and gymnastics, consisting of swimmers (solos, duets or teams) performing elaborate moves in the water, accompanied by music. This sport demands advanced water skills, and requires great strength, endurance, flexibility, grace, artistry and precise timing, as well as exceptional breath control when upside down underwater. (Synchronized Swimming)
- It is a racquet sport played by either two opposing players (singles) or two opposing pairs (doubles), who take positions on opposite halves of a rectangular court divided by a net. Players score points by striking a shuttlecock with their racquet so that it passes over the net and lands in their opponents’ half of the court. Each side may only strike the shuttlecock once before it passes over the net. (Badminton)

The pupil, who wants to answer, should raise his/her hand. If the answer is correct, the team will get one point; if the answer is wrong, the turn will go to another team.
