Сценарий урока-праздника, посвященного

Дню Благодарения»

Цель урока: Актуализация умений в монологической речи по теме.

Учебные: Развитие  навыков монологической речи; дальнейшее развитие коммуникативных умений для стимуляции речевого творчества каждого ученика, расширение социо-культурной компетенции учащихся.

Развивающие: Формирование ключевых компетенций в области информационных технологий, в проектно-аналитической  деятельности, развитие творческого мышления.

Воспитательные: развитие навыков работы в команде, приобретение навыков публичного выступления; воспитание культуры учащихся средствами иностранного языка, воспитание нравственности, уважения к другим людям.

Оснащение: Компьютер, проектор, доступ к Интернету, декорации, костюмы, плакаты от каждой из  групп: нарисованный символ праздника -  индейка, у которой разноцветные перья хвоста – заранее написанные учащимися фразы, например: I’m thankful for being loved; приготовленные родителями и детьми традиционные блюда: индейка, печения и т.д.

Ход урока:

1. Вступление.

P1.  Ladies and gentlemen! Welcome to our party, dedicated to the most important holyday Thanksgiving Day. Each year Americans celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday on the fourth Thursday of November.

P2. Добрый день! Мы приветствуем гостей, родителей, учителей и учеников. В нашей школе существует традиция отмечать замечательный американский праздник День благодарения. Каждый год в каждый четвертый четверг ноября все люди Америки выражают благодарность за новую Родину, за щедрый осенний урожай, за еду на столе, за мир в семье.

P1. But first of all I'd like to remind you some facts from the history of the USA and the origin of this holiday. 

P2. Итак, немного об истории  США  и происхождении Дня Благодарения в Соединенных Штатах. Первая зима 1620 года была очень трудной для переселенцев из Англии, которые решили обосноваться на новом континенте, открытом Христофором Колумбом в 1492 и названном в честь итальянского путешественника Америго Веспуччи, Америкой.

P1. In 1492 Christopher Columbus wanted to find a new route to China but he discovered a new land; which he called a new world. But only the Italian explorer, Amerigo Vespucci, was the first to declare it a new continent. The New World was named America in his honour.

P2. Native Americans, The Indians, lived in tribes. They were very peaceful, believed in many gods that brought success in hunting, farming and fishing.And they helped the first colonists, a group of English Protestants, grow corn and use fish to fertilize their fields.

Later Colonists from Spain, France, Holland, England and other countries came to the New World for many different reasons: trade, freedom of religion, political freedom and economic reasons.

P1. Коренные жители Америки, индейцы, были очень дружелюбны по отношению к поселенцам. Индейцы жили племенами, верили в разных богов, охотились, рыбачили и занимались земледелием. Они во многом очень помогали первым колонистам. Выходцы не только из Англии, но и из Испании, Голландии, Франции и из других стран приехали на новый континент. Они прибыли по разным причинам. Кто-то хотел найти много золота и разбогатеть; кто-то скрывался от религиозных и политических преследований, но все они стали предками настоящих жителей Cоединенных Штатов Америки.

Thanksgiving Play
This play has a narrator, four Pilgrims, and three Native Americans.

 Narrator – This is the story of the very first Thanksgiving. The Pilgrims have just come over on the Mayflower from England.  The year was 1620.  The place was, Massachusetts in the New World they called America. 

Pilgrim #1 – Thank goodness we have finally landed in the New World.  Our boat ride from England was long and hard. 

Pilgrim #2 – It is cold here. I am not used to so much snow in the winter. 

Pilgrim #3 – Neither am I.  Maybe there are other people around here who can help us. 

Native American #1 – Welcome to the New World.  I am Squanto. 

Native American #2 – I am Massasoit.  I am chief of my tribe. 

Pilgrim #4 – Welcome.  We are Pilgrims who have just come here from England.  We are cold and hungry and our food supply has run low. 

Native American #3 – Do not worry.  We will show you how to catch fish in the streams. 

Native American #1 – And we will show you how to plant corn, pumpkins, and beans.  

Pilgrim #1 – You are very kind. And we will share some of our food with you. 

Native Americans – That is very good of you. 

Narrator - Squanto, Massasoit, and the other members of their tribe taught the Pilgrims how to survive in the New World.  And the Pilgrims helped the Indians in return.  When the first harvest came in the fall of 1621, the Pilgrims made a special feast to share with the Native Americans. That is the story of the very first Thanksgiving.

Each year, Americans celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday on the fourth Thursday of November. Most families follow traditions begun on the first Thanksgiving, but many have their own traditions that they follow each year. Here are some of the common traditions associated with "Turkey Day."

Travel

One of the best things about Thanksgiving is spending time with family. Many people live far from family members and travel long distances by car, train, or plane to be with their loved ones. Thanksgiving is the busiest travel day of the year!

The Feast

Traditional foods are a large part of Thanksgiving celebrations. Many families include the entire family in the food preparation. Traditional foods include turkey, stuffing, gravy, sweet potatoes, cornbread, mashed potatoes, and cranberry sauce. Many people serve pie for dessert at the end of the meal. Popular pie flavors are pumpkin, pecan, sweet potato, and apple.

Vegetarian Foods

Some families choose to serve vegetarian Thanksgiving dinners instead of a stuffed turkey. Some people eat vegetarian turkey, which is made out of tofu. Others prefer to eat squash, salads, or other fruit and vegetable dishes.

The Wishbone

Some families include breaking the turkey's wishbone as part of their celebration. The wishbone is found attached to the breast meat in the turkey's chest. After the meat has been removed and the wishbone has had a chance to become dry and brittle, two people each take one end of the bone, make a wish, and pull. Whoever ends up with the larger part of the bone gets their wish!

The Turkey Pardon

Each year at Thanksgiving, the President of the United States receives a gift of a live turkey (along with an alternate in case something happens to the official turkey). At a White House ceremony, the president traditionally "pardons" the National Thanksgiving Turkey and the alternate turkeys, allowing them to live out the rest of their lives on a farm.

Helping Others

Many generous folks use Thanksgiving as an opportunity to help the less fortunate. Some people volunteer to serve food at homeless shelters on Thanksgiving Day and others donate to shelters or participate in canned food drives.

TV

Television also plays a part in Thanksgiving celebrations. Many families watch the New York City Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. The parade includes marching bands, floats, songs and performances from Broadway musicals, and giant helium-filled balloons! People may also enjoy televised football games.

After the Meal

After the feast families often do additional activities. Some like to take walks after eating such a large meal. Some people take naps. Others sit down together to play board or card games together.

Fast Facts

• Abraham Lincoln declared a national day of Thanksgiving in 1863.
• The first Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade was held in 1924. The Parade is famously known for its policy of going on under any circumstance or condition. 'The show must go on'

The Friday after the Thanksgiving Day is called the Black Friday. This is one of the busiest days in America when people begin their Christmas shopping. Also , Families visit restaurants, amusement parks, gift each other, decorate their house etc.
