GAME “BRAIN RING”.

Good morning boys and girls! We are glad to meet you at our game! Three teams will participate in the game. You’ll ask my questions. Which team will answer quicker – will get a point. After the main 6 tours we will play a super game. Our winner will be awarded after the game “Brain ring”

Let’s begin. The first tour. Look at the screen.

Ведущий называет примечательные здания Англии, появляющиеся на экране после щелчка мышки.

Buckingham Palace, The Tower of London, The Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, Trafalgar Square, Big Ben.

Now the questions 1. It was built in the 11th century by William the Conqueror as a fortress and a royal palace. Later it was a prison, now it is a museum and a Royal Treasury. (The Tower of London)

                       2. What is the home of the Queen? (Buckingham Palace)

                           3. It is a royal church. There are tombs of many British kings and queens and other famous people. This is where the coronation takes place. (Westminster Abbey)

                      4. It is a famous British clock. (Big Ben)

The second tour. На экране появляются под номерами флаги англоязычных стран.

Answer the questions.

The third tour. Look at the screen. На экране появляются картинки символов. Ведущий озвучивает их (Так и в последующих турах)  National symbols 1 – a red rose, 2 – a bald eagle, 3. – a thistle, 4 – a shamrock and a red hand, 5 – a daffodil

Answer: 1. What is the national symbol of Scotland? (a thistle)

           2. What is the national symbol of Wales? ( a daffodil)

           3. What is the national symbol of England? (a red rose)

           4. What is the national symbol of Ireland? (a shamrock and a red hand)

The fourth tour. Look at the screen again. На экране появляются картинки праздников. Holidays. Christmas, Easter, Halowe’en, Snt. Valentine’s Day, Mothers’ Day, Fathers’s Day.

Answer, please, what holiday I am talking about.

1. This holiday is celebrated on the 14th of February as a day of love and friendship. (Snt. Valentine’s Day)
2. People buy presents and cards and send them to their friends and relatives. Parents put their presents into stockings. The traditional meal is roast turkey and pudding. They also decorate streets, rooms and a tree. (Christmas)
3. Children usually eat chocolate eggs and Cross Buns on this day. (Easter)
4. Children make lanterns out of pumpkins, dress as witches and ghosts and go from house to house and say; “Trick or Treat!” (Hallowe’en)

The fifth tour. Famous people. Look at the screen. На экране появляются имена людей.

Neil Armstrong, Alexander  Bell, William  Horgarth, Isaak Newton, Arthur Conan Doyle, Agatha Cristie.

Answer the following questions. 1. Who was one of the best British artists. Some of his pictures are kept in the National Gallery. (Horgarth)

                                       2. Who wrote 75 detective stories? (Cristie)

                                     3. He was a spaceman and the first person to walk on the Moon. (Armstrong)

                             4. Who invented the telephone? (Bell)

The sixth tour. Grammar. Look at the screen. На экране формулы настоящего простого, будущего простого, настоящего длительного, настоящего совершенного, прошедшего простого.

1. Name the formulae of the Present Simple.
2. Name the formulae of the Past Simple.
3. Name the formulae of the Future Simple.
4. Name the formulae of the Present Progressive.
5. Name the formulae of the Present Perfect.

The seventh tour. There are modal verbs: can, should, must, may, could. I’ll tell you sentences in Russian and you must tell what modal verb we need to translate it.

The eigth tour. At home. Look at the screen. The words: a dining room

What room am I talking about?

1. In this room there is a table, a mirror, a chest of drawers and beds. We sleep there. (a bedroom)
2. In this room there is a table, chairs or armchairs, a sofa, a fireplace, a television and a carpet. (a living room)
3. In this room there is a desk, chairs, shelves of books, a computer, You may do your homework there. ( a study)
4. In this room you may wash your hands and face, clean your teeth, take a bath or a shower) (a bathroom)
5. There is a dishwasher, fridge, a stove, a microwave oven, plates, cups and other things here. We usually cook here. ( a kitchen)

The ninth tour. Look at the screen. На экране появляются картинки героев. Ведущий озвучивает их по мере появления.

What heroes are described?

1. He took care of animals, because he loved them very much. Many different animals lived in his house. (Doctor Doollitle)
2. She looked after children. The wind had brought her over. She usually had a bag and an umbrella in her hands. In her bag she had an armchair, a piano and a magic bottle.    (Mary Poppins)
3. He was a sailor. One day there was a storm in the sea and the ship was wrecked. He swam to an island. He lived on the island alone for a long time and he had a friend called Friday.  (Robinsone Crusoe)
4. This girl had wonderful adventures in an imaginary magic country. (Alice)
5. This man travelled much. He visited the country of great and very smsll people. (Gulliver)
