2.Ход мероприятия
The Beginning.
Учитель: How well do you know the modern United Kingdom? Today we shall find it out. There is a very unusual guest who needs our help. But before we meet her, let us see the prehistory.
Ролик (в жанре комиксов), учитель может зачитывать предысторию на кадрах ролика:
England, the 16th century. It was the era when art and alchemy were flourishing. A secret disciple of wizard Merlin, Duke Frederick, was trying to invent a time travel potion. In 1548 he finally succeeded. His courageous daughter Evangeline agreed to try the potion. She drank it and disappeared. But the father had forgotten to give her a counter spell. He sent his daughter’s cat with the spell after her. So, the girl and the cat set off to explore the new unknown world…
После ролика появляется (заходит в кабинет) Евангелина (в средневековом английском платье) с котом:
Evangeline (разговаривает с собой): Oh Lord, where am I? Everything is so strange: the room, the children, and gosh, their clothes!…
У: Hello, and welcome to Russia.
E: Eh, how do you do, Miss (учтиво кланяется). Did you say Russia? I thought I’d get into modern England. What century is it now?
У: It is the 21 century.
E: Good gracious! England must have changed sooo greatly. It is such a pity that I can’t behold the glory of my country firsthand.
У: Don’t worry, our students know a lot about modern Britain. Ask anything you like.
E: Oh, that is magnificent! But how discourteous of me – I haven’t introduced myself. My name is Evangeline, I am the daughter of the noble duke Frederic. And this is my loyal companion and friend, my cat Felix.
У: Nice to meet you, Evangeline…and Felix, of course.
E: Alas, I have so little time to stay and so many questions to ask!
У: Then it’s high time we start our journey around modern Britain!
Task 1.Countries, flags and symbols.
У: The full name of your motherland is now the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, but it is commonly known as the United Kingdom, the UK, Great Britain or just Britain. The country consists of four parts: England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Each country has its own flag and symbol. But the UK has one common flag called Union Jack – it appeared in the beginning of the 17 century. Union Jack is made of four flags. The capital of Great Britain is still London. So, things have become more peaceful and stable nowadays.
E: All this is so complicated, I feel confused. My dear friends, would you be so kind as to help me?
У: With pleasure, Evangeline! Let’s divide into two groups. Group 1 – match the flags, their names and countries. Group 2 – match the symbols, their names and countries.
E: Thank you, now I see that there are pretty little changes in the countries’ flags and symbols, if not any. The main change is Union Jack, of course. Please, take these coins as the sign of my gratitude.
Task 2. True or False?*
E: You know, I used to discuss the future with my father very often. There are so many incredible suppositions in my head, and I wonder which of them are true and which are false. Help me find it out, please.
Евангелина зачитывает свои предположения (по одному). Задача учеников – сказать, какие из них правда, то есть действительно сбылись, а какие – ложь. Учитель исправляет учеников, если те ошибаются. Те, кто дал больше правильных ответов, получают монетку.

Task 3. What is that?*
У: There are quite a lot of things that have survived till the present time since the 16th century. Besides, a lot of new sights have appeared. Let’s tell Evangeline about them.
E: I’m all ears!
У: Listen to me and try to guess which of the British sights I am describing.

Oh, it is the letter from my father (снимает письмо с ошейника Феликса и читает вслух): “My dear child, I have sent Felix to help you return home. Use the spell in this letter.
