- Teacher`s words
Every country and every nation has its own traditions and customs. It’s very important to know traditions and customs of different people. It’ll help you to know more about the history and life of different nations and countries.
The British celebrate Christmas on the 25th of December. I n Russia we celebrate this holiday on the 7th of January. As you know, Christmas is a religious holiday. It is a day on which people celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. It is a happy holiday. Families come together to share their happiness, attend church and exchange gifts.
Ivan M----
Christmas is a Christian holiday commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ. It is based on Biblical event described in Luke 2 and Matthew 1-2 of the New Testament. Luke told the story of an angel appeared to shepherds and told them that a Savior had been born to Mary and Joseph in a stable in Bethlehem. The shepherds went there to see Jesus.
Matthew told about the three wise Men of the East (the Magi) who followed a wondrous star which led them to the new - born child, whom they presented with gifts of gold, frankincense(ладан), and myrrh (мирра, аром масла)
According to the Bible the baby Jesus was born in a stable two thousand years ago and was the Son of God. His mother was the Virgin Mary.
Ann (a song)---
Silent night. Holy night.
All is calm, all is bright,
Round yon Virgin Mother and Child,
Holy Infant so tender and mild,
Sleep in heavenly peace,
Sleep in heavenly peace.
Luba---
The angel Gabriel is telling Mary something very important. He is telling her she will be the mother of God’s Son ! Mary is very excited! She is happy because she will be the mother of the Saviour. She will name the baby Jesus.
Ann (continuation of the song)
Silent night. Holy night.
Shepherds quake at the sight.
Glories stream from heaven afar,
Heavenly hosts sing Halleluia;
Christ the Savior is born,
Christ the Savior is born.
Kate Bykova
Here is the baby Jesus and his mother, Mary. Some wise men from far away have come with presents for Jesus. They saw a star that led them to Jesus. They know Jesus will be very great and important. That is why they are bringing him gifts. The angel had told them that Jesus is the Saviour.
Ann (continuation of the song)
Silent night. Holy night.
Son of God, love’s pure light.
Radiant beams from Thy holy face,
With the dawn of redeeming grace,
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth,
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth.
- Ivan Borisov
This is Mary’s baby. His name is Jesus! He is God’s Son, but he was born in a barn where sheep and donkeys live. He was a great king in heaven before he came down to earth as a baby.
- What a Child is this? (we sing together) (репродукция картины Рафаэля «Мадонна с младенцем» (Мадонна Конестабиле)
What child is this
Who lay to rest
On Mary’s lap asleeping.
Whom angels sing their anthems sweet
While shepherds watch are keeping?
This, this is Christ the King!
Whom shepherds guard and angels sing.
Haste, haste to bring him, Lord.
The babe, the son of Mary.
So bring him incense, gold and myrrh
Come peasant, King, to owe him.
The King of Kings salvation brings
Let loving hearts enthrone him.
Raise, raise the song on high!
The Virgin sings her lullaby
Joy, joy for Christ is born
The babe, the son of Mary.
- Ivan Kurganov
Christmas. (презентация)
My goodness, my goodness,
It’s Christmas again
The bells are all ringing
I do not know when
I’ve been so excited
The tree is all fixed,
The candles are lighted,
The pudding is mixed.
The wreath’s on the door
And the carols are sung.
The presents are wrapped
And the holly is hung.
The turkey is sitting
All sate in its pan,
And I am behaving
As calm as I can.
- What do we know about Christmas traditions, food? (Luba---)
- A song «Jingle bells» STAS
All the days of winter festivals the air is filled with the sounds of Christmas songs and bells ringing through the world. This melody you have listened to on TV a week before Christmas and will listen to some weeks after it.
Dashing through the snow, in a one-horse open sleigh,
O’er the fields we go, laughing all the way.
Bells on bobtail ring, making spirits bright,
What fun it is to ride and sing a sleighing song tonight!
Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way.
Oh! What fun it is to ride in a one-horse open sleigh!
Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way.
Oh! What fun it is to ride in a one-horse open sleigh!
- Katya Bykova
Some weeks before Christmas people are busy. They send cards or Christmas greetings to their relatives and friends. Children make greeting cards at school. Some families send and get dozens of Christmas cards through the mail. On Christmas people wish their nearest and dearest "A Merry Christmas".
We wish you a merry Christmas
We wish you a merry Christmas
We wish you a merry Christmas
And a happy New Year.
We wish you a merry Christmas
We wish you a merry Christmas
We wish you a merry Christmas
And a happy New Year.
Good tidings we bring
To you and your kin;
We wish you a merry Christmas
And a happy New Year!
We want some figgy pudding
We want some figgy pudding
We want some figgy pudding
So bring some right here!
We won't go until we get some
We won't go until we get some
We won't go until we get some
So bring some right here!
Good tidings we bring
To you and your kin;
We wish you a merry Christmas
And a happy New Year!
Good tidings we bring
To you and your kin;
We wish you a merry Christmas
And a happy New Year!
We wish you a merry Christmas
We wish you a merry Christmas
We wish you a merry Christmas
And a happy New Year!
We wish you a merry Christmas
We wish you a merry Christmas
We wish you a merry Christmas
And a happy New Year!
- And of course, let`s remember about the most popular song «White Christmas». Do you know who wrote it? (Ирвинг Берлин (он же Израиль Белин)) Ivan Motorin
Ivan Borisov
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know
Where the treetops glisten
and the children listen
To hear sleigh bells in the snow
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your Christmases be white,
be white
I, I’m
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know
Where the treetops glisten
and the children listen
To hear sleigh bells in the snow
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your Christmases be white

Christmas is coming!
The goose is getting fat.
Please to put a penny
In the old man’s hat.
Please to put a penny
In the old man’s hat.
Kate Kobzar
If you have no penny,
A ha’penny will do.
If you have no ha’penny,
Then God bless you.
If you have no ha’penny,
Then God bless you.
- What is the poem about?
(possible answers – we have to help the poor, to the people who needs help, we have to be charitable(щедрый, раздающий милостыню), merciful (милосердный, сострадательный…)
Who can help people? Who can be the person who needs help?
- Teacher : Thank you for your coming. Now it's time to finish our festival. Do you like our meeting? You were clever, active and attentive. You have sung during the meeting very well. Let's clap our hands. I hope you have got a pleasure, broaden your outlook. See you next year.
